Do you remember your first cosplay? What made you get into the hobby /cgl/?
>>
Pussy.
>>
My first cosplay was when I was a high school freshman in 2005. It was Lenne from FFX-2.

It sucked.
>>
my first cosplay was a terribad closet cosplay of the boar from fruits basket. my first "official" cosplay was of Villeta Nu from code geass. man, that wig was a bitch.
>>
Mine was a god awful genderbent Dirk cosplay... My shirt didn't fit how I wanted and my hair was way too long for it at the time.
As for why I got into cosplay, cosplay just looked like a lot of fun!
>>
>>6949073 (OP)

yes. a terribly simple Fluttershy costume for fifteen bucks. and that's cause the shirt was ten!

I think it was something I always wanted to try.

Literally every male's reason for cosplay.
>>
>>6949108
as for why, well;
I used to collect figurines (mainly nendoroids) of my favorite characters. I loved those things to death, made them pose differently everyday, and did stop motion animation with them.
Then my kid sister became obsessed with them, played with them while I was away, lost, and broke so many peices that the figures are no longer functional.
since the figurine thing didn't work out, I got into cosplay as a new way to collect characters. by "becoming" the characters. a cool way to show my appreciation.
I'm still pissed about the figurine thing.
>>
First cosplay was Genjo Sanzo from Saiyuki. It was pretty damn awful. I just wanted to share my love for this character with the whole world.

muh rageee
I just found a bunch of scattered parts in my sisters room. I also have a (cheap) balljointed lolita doll that I never take out in fear that my sister will get it.
>>
Yup. Knight Fakir from princess tutu. NOBODY knew who I was. Its ok though, it was shitty.

What got me into the hobby? I just find it incredibly relaxing to work on something, just sitting with music on and focused. I like having a project. I used to paint warhammer minis just for that. Once I started making life size armor, It seemed like the logical next step for myself. Cosplay is just to show my work and hang out with friends.
>>
Not properly into the hobby yet, but ...

Made a generic Hogwarts scarf and cloak for the last movie that I wore a number of times. The first proper character was this spring, as Ryoga Hibiki from Ranma 1/2. Many recognized me, and some wanted pictures, so I'll say it was a success.

I want to get into the hobby because hobbies are good, and I have none, and I really admire cosplayers and how they put much effort into making something really good. It also is a really great feeling to wear something completely different. Oh, and I need something to wear at cons because brony t-shirts are boring.

I like having collectible props from series I liked, such as weapons or accessories. If it wasn't buyable, I would make it. My first convention at Anime North I saw all of the cool costumes and instantly wanted to do one next year. I went as a mostly closet cosplay Pokemon White trainer. It was pretty fun just dressing up, but I remember how amazing I felt when someone actually asked me for a picture mfw.

What did you collect?
>>
My first cosplay costume was a closet cosplay of Kensuke Aida. I did not got the camcorder piece until my 20th birthday. I even made the NERV ID.
>>

Picture? Always had a thing for Kensuke (and disappointed that he never got to pilot)
>>
Attention.
>>
Mine was Sollux from Homestuck. (ugh)
I don't really know how I got into it?? All I can remember was that I used to casually like some anime, then in high school I met a good friend who liked it a lot, and she taught more about it and got me really really into it and then we got into Homestuck a lot and then we both cosplayed it to a convention.
And I guess I was hooked? And I ended up meeting more cosplayers.
>>
May from Pokemon for Halloween when I was 15. It was really bad, haha.

Then the first "real" cosplay I did to a convention was Hilda from Pokemon. It was okay, but not great.
>>
Renee Montoya, three years ago. Decided I'd go to my first con with my best friend, she already had a Vic Sage crossplay, so we decided to team up and I spent a few months picking up blue stuff to wear. Actually reprised our duo for a couple cons last year; closet cosplays of plainsclothes heroes hold up pretty well.

I emailed moot about the mod being a jerk about the AC threads, even though last time we were discussing cosplay. I suggest anyone else who wants to see these threads ahain email him as well

Went to my first con when I was 16. This was 2000 because I'm old. I was on the internet just checking out those cool nerd sites on geocities and stuff and happened upon cosplay somewhere. Decided to cosplay Juri from the Utena movie. Used my real hair (of course) because it was long... sprayed it orange in the hotel room. Don't think I have the photo still on my computer.

But anyway I lost interest after that first con because I had to ride over state lines with my folks and there was nothing in my state at the time. A few years later I'm in college and become friends with a guy who wanted to give cons and cosplay a try. After a couple more costumes being made by my grandmother or my friend I learned how to sew and have done all my own stuff since.

I really am not a fan of sewing, but I love the wig styling and prop aspects... and just figuring it all out I guess.

My first cosplay was Nathan Drake. Looking back it, it was a bit bad since my body is too skinny to pull off his physique; but I started doing this since I never knew that my city had comic book conventions and I've always wanted to go to one to see how fun they were.
They are fun.
>>
I never got the chance to cosplay ;_;
>>
My first cosplay was of Kagamine Rin from Vocaloid. It was horrible, but it was my first time trying to sew something other than a pillow. And no wig as well...

I don't think there are any pictures of it in existence anymore
