>>
little early for youmacon threads isnt it?

(maybe i can actually get my fucking anxiety problems under control enough to go for the first time in years)
>>
>>7019126
too excited for it
>>
Hope they put a lot more shit in Cobo this year. Fuckin' hated that split.
>>
>>7019114 (OP)
I AM SO PUMPED... even though it's August. I really need to get my money together for the con ahhhh

European here, is Detroit that crime-ridden shithole I keep hearing about?
>>
>>7019767

Agreed. There needs to be more at Cobo this year.
>>
>>7019794
Yup that's why OP said to put you're hands up, this is a robbery.
>>
>>7019794
Somewhat, but really a lot of the fear of Detroit amounts to "OMG BLACK PEOPLE"
>>
So since Detroit's bankrupt now, will the hotel actually appreciate the spike in revenue for once instead of being elevator nazis?

Also I agree that COBO needs more stuff, the RenCen has an annoying layout
>>
>>7019818
I think the fear comes more from the Homicide rate being way above the national average and the police force being cut so badly that they can't perform normal functions and uniformed police officers with 17 years on the job committing armed robberies.
>>
>>7019767
Goddamn I agree. And did anyone else get hella confused/lost in the Marriott because of its circle design? Like, it looked cool, but damn that architect did not design the place for massive amounts of people trying to find where things are. Still enjoyed the con, though.

>Oh you need to get to the 2nd floor? There's 2 escalators off of the wintergarden
>Oh you need to get to the 3rd floor? There's a handy escalator on the complete opposite side of this massive ring
>Oh you need to get to the 4th floor? There's a handy escalator on the far side of this massive ring that is hard to find
>Oh you want to use the elevator? Fuck you.

see you there :^)

Is there any way to get in on the post con festivities without having a hotel room? I decided to go way too late.

Cosplays I'm planning for it this year

Mooch off of someone who has a room? Get a room at one of the nearby hotels? Sleep outside and fight off panhandlers?

who is this angel

I'm guessing it's Nyanners. I always thought she had glasses or something.

My mother uses that scented lotion.

I heard a rumor at godaikocon that everything is in the cobo this year? i'm still not going, after last year's clusterfuck of everything they, and especially the ren cen, can eat my balls.
>>
>>7019794
basically, there's a pretty ok core surrounded by over a hundred square miles of WHY.JPG
>>
>>7020571
Nope, it's still split between the two. Youma likes to have at least some events at the RenCen because then the con can run during the night. Artist's Alley, Dealer Room and some of the larger panels will be at Cobo.
>>
>>7019794
Yes.
>>
>>7019888
I seriously doubt the Renaissance Center was meant to hold any sort of conference/convention thing this big. It seems to mostly be meant religious group meetings, investors conferences, that sort and not 10,000+ nerds in bulky costumes all weekend long.

I wonder if there's any architects out there making convention-friendly hotel designs.
>>
I cut the line the first day and got my badge by 2pm. Huehuehue. Dat long line though.

>pre reg
>wait 4 hours in line
>watch people register at con get in line and out with badges in ten minutes, while i haven't even moved in line
>no schedule books the first day
>the bullshit apology note they sent us after

If I didn't live 15 minutes away I don't think I'd come back.

>>7020777
Apparently Youmacon was the first event to fill the RenCen to capacity (I think it was built in the late 70s)
>>
>>7020634
i guess according to the site, registration/pickup will be at cobo, at least. sure explains why it's $55 for the weekend this year!
>>
>>7020794
>no schedule books until late saturday, when it doesn't fucking matter
>no signs or directions to panels anywhere in cobo
>wrist
>bands*
>*okay not youma's fault
>>
>>7020794
It was built in the 70's, finished to what we know it as now in 1981. It was mainly meant as a GM Headquarters that could fit in a hotel and sort of mall-like setup.

As for the booklets, that wasn't the convention's fault due to the publisher being stupid that year. I've heard that registration is going to be moved to Cobo which can definitely handle such things a lot better. I heard the problems last year were caused by their registration system having sudden last minute problems or something.
>>
>>7020794
Feelsbatman. It was sad to see the pre reg line going so slow ;~;

What city you from? I'm from Downriver so not too far myself.
>>
>>7020816
The wristbands are all thanks to one lone jackass by the name of John Wetzel. The asshole was trying to book whole floors at the con and shove as many people in each as possible. Someone told Youma, Youma told the hotel and the hotel promptly freaked out. And of course Wetzel had to make everything worse by starting up rumors and making this about "attendee rights"
>>
I mean, I completely understand where congoers are coming from but the wrist band thing is to enforce standard hotel safety rules. Having 5-6 people in a 4 person room? The hotel is losing money maybe but it's not much of a hazard. It gets hazardous when it's 15 people in a three bedroom room which I've been in before. I think that's a huge issue considering the over capacity thing. If I'm not mistaken courtyard which is connected to the Marriott/Renaissance doesn't check wrist bands. Stay there! It's cheaper too ;)
>>
>>7020828
I tried booking there last year but it looks like they want nothing to do with youmacon since their site had those dates blocked off and there wasn't some sort of deal with Youmacon going on. Unless I'm mistaken, of course
>>
>>7020819
Dearborn! It's so nice not needing to buy a room.
>>
>>7020823
yeah, that guy is a fucking asshole.

>>7020828
the problem with the wristbands is that most of the smaller panels are in the ren cen. the only way to access those rooms are through the elevators or escalators (i'm trying to remember; pretty sure there's one level you can literally only reach by elevator). so when people in wheelchairs who were just there for the day or weren't staying at the ren cen were trying to take the elevators to different panel room levels, supposedly the staff was refusing to let them on, in case they snuck up to a friend's room.
i understand why the rencen thought it was a clever idea, but it very much did not work in their favor.
>>
>>7020819
I'm from Grosse Pointe. I live less than 15 minutes down Jefferson from Youma, but I still get a room every year mostly for Live Action Mario Party: After Dark
>>
>>7020840
I actually remember seeing a homestuck or two pretending to be crippled in order to get on the elevators and get into panels earlier
>>
>>7020847
That makes me really angry now. Are you sure they were faking?
>>
>>7019114 (OP)
I remember they had Wreck-It Ralph playing the year I went, specifically for Youmacon. Anyone go to that? How was it? I went to see Pacific Rim at the theater last month and it was an awkwardly tiny screen
