Couldn't make it to J-pop this weekend. How was it?
>>
Daichi was a BEAST
>>
it was awesome! I had a really fun time and it was a lot cheaper then a con. Wish I had time to go to sake tasting though ):
>>
I had a great time, I even though I didn't stop in for too long. There were lots of wonderful looking lolitas, great food (I love Onigilly so I was happy to get a chance to stop in there), and it was PACKED. Which was a bad thing if you were waiting in line for something, but I was glad to see the festival drawing in such a crowd. It seems like it gets bigger every year.
>>
It was my first time there (and I haven't been the Cherry Blossom Festival either) so I wasn't expecting the extremely touristy vibe of the entire thing. Lots of people sticking their cameras in your face without asking, lots of badly dressed weebs. Didn't really do much the first day, since I just managed to miss the Innocent World fashion show we decided to skip the rest and just go check out the pop-up shops. There was less stuff than I was expecting (like five dresses that I don't think even sold from IW, and I was hoping to get some accessories) but the models from the other brands were there and adorable so that was cool. Apparently Kyary also was just hanging around on the first day. Second day the Baby fashion contest was great, lots of deer/fawn shit because of the theme, but it was a bunch of different take on it, and almost everyone looked amazing (Gwen, what the fuck were you thinking at least it wasn't like last year terribad). I actually tried to enter the contest but didn't make the cut because it was a limit of twenty people and I guess my outfit was kind of casual and lazy? I dunno. The Union Square concert was great, but spots were hard to find and there was some pretty rude shoving going on. Daichi was fucking amazing and I think I like Kyary a lot more after seeing her live, but her back-up dancers made it for me. They were intense as shit.
>>
Kylee was... Kylee. There's been a lot of her this year. Needs new material.
Lovendor did the same set (even the MC was the same) on Saturday and Sunday but I still liked it.
Daichi was pretty cool. And impressive. All I have to say.
KPP was good fun. She said if she goes on tour again she'd like to come to SF but maybe that's just lip service.

Japantown Saturday was fairly packed. They had a fence around the pagoda stage which kind of fucked things up. People would crowd the fence and the chairs were largely useless because of it. Sunday was kind of empty because most people went straight to Union Square. Some folks were there from the early morning to scope out spots. Good time to be press. There was supposed to be a blanket ban on photos but of course no one is going to enforce that in a public place.

J-Pop Summit is probably the best free thing you can find out here. I hope subsequent years will prove as good in the guest department even though it kind of felt like they spent all the budget solely on the Sunday concert. In previous years I felt I had more stuff I wanted to see and not just camp the stage area.

Basically it was a free con with great guests and awesome events. What's there not to like?

Daichi is fucking amazing. I totally lost my shit when he started doing Attack on Titan's theme on stage, followed by Evangelion. I got to say hi to him while he was walking around too, and he seemed so happily surprised by the attention. I talked to the takara booth (his sponsors) about when he was performing, and they said "you know who he is?" Wtf, the kid deserved better, they worked him so hard the whole weekend.

I missed all the fashion shows on Saturday. From the videos, the 6% Dokidoki show looked like a lot of fun, and Yuka was really energetic up on stage. The other Japanese models, from the pictures, looked really meh to me. Maybe someone who was there can tell me otherwise.

Was I the only one who was disappointed that none of Innocent World's fashion show dresses were on sale at the pop up shop? I ended up buying two Swimmer things since they were one of the few things that wasn't crazily overpriced, and then spent 2 hours in line trying to pay for it, which is why I missed the fashion shows.

The Baby fashion contest was really good. It was freezing, but all the contestants seemed to deal with it well. I heard that there were a lot of asshurt from the people who were cut. I liked it better with the smaller amount of people, since last year, there were so many bad coords taking up time, and people were just not fitting onto the stage. The MC was much better this year too, glad he didn't ramble on and on about lolita being a lifestyle and comparing it to everything under the sun like last year.

The only things that I was bummed out about was missing the sake tasting. Apparently, the booths were crazy generous and for the $5, you could get trashed. Hope they're coming back again next year.

I'm >>7010250 so yeah, I was cut, but honestly, I don't really feel asshurt about it because when you look at the difference between the outfits that were cut and the ones that weren't, it's pretty significant. For me, it was my first time there, so I didn't know how elaborate it would be, and that everyone would be making such cool stuff. The only thing I had going was some bear ears made of hair and a Gloomy bear jacket, haha. And the other people, it was like some simple flower crowns, and one girl wasn't even dressed to the theme, just a matched coord. I mean, Gwen made it in, and even though she looked awful like normal (green limecrime lipstick, wtf), her coord was nice and she had that deer prop thingy. I think there might have been some butthurt because they immediately left to go inside and not watch. There were also a lot of girls that didn't show up on time and arrived after all of us had already been screened, so I think they might have been upset they didn't even get the chance to try to get in. Though honestly, they don't really have the right to complain, because everyone was else was there so fucking early and had to put on all that elaborate shit, too.

Which girl wasn't dressed to the theme? (I wonder if you're talking about me)
>>
>>7011188
Um, she was in a pink printed dress and a matching headbow, and that's it.
>>

Your coord sounds pretty cute actually. I was really surprised by how elaborate people were this year compared to the previous years. It was nice to see so much effort. And the reason I mentioned the asshurt was that a few people after the event threw tantrums on fb. And yeah, I saw a few people who were late and had great coords, but I agree with you about rewarding those who were ready on time.

I was there both days, and I have to say that J-Pop gets better every year. There was a line for the popup shop on Saturday morning so I didn't bother, but it wasn't that crowded either when I visited in the afternoon. I went in on Sunday morning again and I think they restocked the swimmer and Liz Lisa lucky packs, and I was happy to see lots of swimmer stuff for sale.

The foodtrucks were great too and I got some lobster taco thing, which is like a lobster salad on top of a chip. Amazing tasting and pretty looking for $3, and I am surprised that it's sold on a food truck and in a decent restaurant.

I went to Union Square as Daichi was performing and I could not even squeeze my head through to watch, but he was great with the crowd. I only stayed for a couple songs by Kyary but she was great as well. Ditto on the dancers - just amazing.

The fashion show was pretty good, and the 6% doki doki one was just full-on nuts, with girls dancing and all that. The Japanese models are actually a lot cuter up close - I got to take a picture with them on Sunday.

The Baby contest had a lot of good and creative coords; I was just surprised that there were so many contestants! Good thing the MC moved through them quick though. The prizes from C&C were just insane, but I am sure the owner enjoys seeing lolitas at her place.

All in all, enjoyable if not more so than last year, and I am hoping to join some contest maybe year!
>>
what did people get in their BTSSB lucky packs? I'm slightly bummed I didn't get one.
>>
I miss the Purikura parlor in the mall...and Shibuya SF.
>>
>>7011370
I heard it was one of the cherry prints jsk, bloomers, and matching headbows
>>
>>7011210
That girl got shafted when they chose contestants so she didn't even get to go on stage
>>
>>7011385
Yes, that's what I meant?
>>
>>7011292
Haha, if they couldn't see the difference between those who had been chosen and those who hadn't, then I don't even know what to say. Not being chosen just makes me want to step up my game next year.
>>
>>7011404
Oh, I thought you meant someone who was a contestant. My bad.
