I've never made a cape before. Any tips?

This is the cape I'm looking for. The fact that the front can't ride up to your neck sounds difficult, as well as the shoulder pads. Other than that, I guess I'm just looking for what would be the best method to make it, and with what materials.

Bumping this thread because I'll be home in about an hour as well and I'll be making the cosplay all day, and then heading to ACen tomorrow. Only one sleep deprived to day to make this with nothing started.

I wonder if McDonalds uniforms are still red, and if they'd even let me have one. They're a bunch of different colors, aren't they.

>>6844483
Thanks, I've not seen this before.
>I will be doing tutorials for trimmed capes or double-layered capes (or capes that have different coloured layers) at a later date, as well as a proper tutorial on collared capes.

I'm dreading going to a con because I know there's the possibility of seeing an ex-friend. She's a fucking fat slut who will most likely be wearing the same cosplay that she wore last year and showing off her shitty art work.
My blood just boils with cold rage seeing her.

When someone's selling something at a stupid price on the comm sales
And they repost
and repost
And never lower the price and won't accept offers or haggling
and reposts
etc
and then whines that nobody wants to buy their stuff.

Gosh, wonder why. I mean, what you charge for something is your own business, but don't be surprised if nobody buys your worth-$150 dress for $300

ONE WEEK TILL MCM.
Ready?
Plans?

Seagull meat: 6pm at the statue on Saturday. Be there unless you're not cool.
>>
I am far from ready. I have no motivation what so ever to sew. Unless I get my arse in gear soon, it looks like I won't have a new cosplay this time. Oh well.
>>
I guess I'm ready. The wig for my planned costume was the wrong length, so no cosplays for me this time. Just need to get next week over with which will be the hardest part.
Will probably go to the meet very quickly to greet people and then head off again as soon as the drinking begins. Will be fun to at least see what kind of people go to this board!
>>
>>6844976 (OP)
I'm not cool, but I will turn up just to ruin things and ensure that "he" turns up. And yes I roughly know where to look to find "him".
>>
I'm working at expo again so my plan is desperately work ever hour I can until next thursday then work like a machine at the event. Expos are fuuuuuuuuuuun.
>>
Had a crisis with my Nana cosplay. You know that bit of hair that comes out just in front of a skin top to cover the rubbery bit? Yeah... guess where I decided to cut the hair off. Herp. Managed to fix it up though and the wig is done now, so just gotta paint my Equius shirt and I'l all set.

How big of a sin is it to use fabric glue for cosplay? This isn't for competition and is just a fun little costume I want to throw together.

It's actually a character themed robe I'm trying to put together. Looking at using fleece. (Looks like I am aiming to be comfy at this convention.)

Would fabric glue even work? What's a good brand for it?

Nothing wrong with fabric glue. I use it for gluing on really thin ribbons, flatback rhinestones, and tiny applique that would be otherwise difficult to machine sew. I don't recommend using it to put together a full garment though. That would look awful and would probably take more time to dry than it would take to just stitch it together.
>>
>>6845067
Does it show through the ribbons? Like where you applied the glue?
I, as an idiot when I was younger, once used super glue to glue a ribbon onto another and it looked awkward because you could see the dots of where I applied the glue, plus it felt "hard" on those spots.
I really think it would be too difficult to sew the two ribbons together (they're about a yard long) so I'm trying to find other alternatives of putting them together.

I bought the blue SK, but the red is a very close second. If I come up with the cash, I might try to pick up something in red.
>>
Aah, I am so happy I managed to grab all of these the first time the went up for sale! (short jsk in blue, long jsk in ivory, and skirt in red)
They are honestly my favorite pieces of clothing I own, and they managed to end up at my door on my birthday, which made it even better!
I really, really, reallllllllly want to/see someone do a historically-inspired coord with these, I think it could look awesome if done right.
>>
>>6844255
A historic coord would be really interesting. I'm wondering though which period of history it would be based around. I'm working on one with my long grey JSK, based around kind of 8th/9th century fashion.
>>
>>6844058
I fell in love with the blue but after I ordered it and started looking at the other colourways, I started to regret it! I feel like I opted for the good looking, charismatic girl but ignored the cute, meek glasses girl and the withdrawn but sexy kuudere.

One of my friends does commissions for a side job for extra income. She's great at making costumes for other people, but she has to make a costume for herself, she doesn't know how to fit it properly and it ends up looking like shit!

I mean, take it in. Use darts-- do whatever. But it weirds me out when she does such a good job for others, but looks like a hot mess herself the weekend of the con.
>>
I secretly hate every other cosplayer in my region
>>
I always - always get surprised at the amount of itas. There is so much information out there nowadays, people should be able to do better. Same with all the bad cosplayers.
>>
>>6845102
People just don't look up that information.
I have a friend and she's getting into cosplay as well as lolita, but it would never occur to her to google 'lolita rules' or 'how to make a good cosplay'.
Instead she just looks at galleries of pretty cosplaying girls and tries to make her makeup and hair look as nice as them with her store-bought messes. She doesn't even know there are rules and no subtle hinting can fix it.

People don't really realise until someone tears into them that they're even doing wrong, the internet is full of asspats from people that don't know any better themselves.
>>
>>6843800
This doesn't seem to be rare. I knew a guy that was vaguely subtle about how he wanted me to cosplay her for sex and I would have totally done it.
But... got a boyfriend at that time. Oh well.

I've noticed a worrying growing trend lately in the Cosplay scene.
Over time more and more girls are trying to grab a juicy piece of e-fame by pandering to the male audience by doing something I don't agree with.

The oversexualisation of cosplay while pretending this is just how they see the character. On top of that you'll be able to quote many of these girls in interviews clearly stating that they are somewhat of a cosplay ambassador.

If you want to turn cosplay into some kind of fetish or soft porn, that's okay in my book! I still have a penis last time I checked. However for the sake of your own personal integrity, at least be up front about it.

There have been many whispers going round amongst community veterans about this trend, yet few have spoken out about it in fear of being vilified and chased by herds of angry teenage children foaming at the mouth, semi-boners still fresh in their pants from over-exposure to their idol. Not a pretty sight.

REAL cosplay is not about raping an artist's original design by showing as much tits and ass as possible.

Yes sex sells, but why not just be honest about it and cosplay Queen's Blade fetish wear and not slut up another series "because you love it"?
>>
>>6843143
I REALLY hope people spammed this on her page. I really do.
>>
I don't mind it so much. Hell, I did a "slutkini" cosplay once, though I've since moved onto more serious stuff.

But trying to justify it as, "it's just a creative reimagining of the character!" is bullshit, and if you believe you're being creative by throwing on hot topic fishnets and a bandeau or some shit, you're seriously deluded.

What is the general consensus on spikey vs. curly Meenah wigs? I am currently unsure on which to go for
>>
I'm planning on cosplaying a human version of sn0wmwan (with coat and cigarette holder), and I have my wig, hat, coat, etc.
I just need some help on two things.

1. Shoes. What kind of shoes should I be looking for? I've been looking for pointy shoes (that look like the end is an elongated < ) as those resemble her feet, but I can't find any plain ones locally that fit. What other shoes would suit her? I'm guessing black heels.

2. Makeup. Green lipstick, or black? Grey/black/white facepaint, or none? Smoky eyes?

I'm kind of basing what I'm doing off the 20s, as I remember something about the felt/midnight crew being based off that era (the wig I bought is as close to 20s style as I could find and I'm going to give her one of those curls like in Gatsby).

Thank you for any help!
