The weebs of the North-East of England today are in tears of woe for their favourite convention has once again cancelled.
For those that don't know, Nemacon is a con that's ran by a thief, liar and conman.
Also on their committee is a serial rapist,
HUZZAH!

After last year's shenanigans about their owner stealing from charity and constantly lying about paying them back they cancelled. Their entire team split but sometime earlier in the year he built a new team. With weebs, Rapists and drug addicts.

Now, today, finally. They admit defeat.
Over the course of the last few weeks or months there's been questions, a lot of questions as to what went on last year, why it happened and what was planned to rectify this.
NOPE. Questions dodged. Excuses.

Today, it goes under.
Today, /cgl/ we party like its NINETEEN NINETY NINE.
Or just fist pump casually with a half-arsed "yay" in response. That works too.
>>
Where does it say it's been cancelled. I've been on their website and facebook page and all seems normal (well apart from deleted posts about the money going missing on the facbook page).
>>
>>6795139
People who have bought tickets have been contacted about refunds.

also, i wish i could be more excited about this, but I can't even rise up any hatred. It's sort of like putting down and old, crippled dog who once upon a time probably deserved a bullet in the skull but now is sort of just pathetic,
>>
>>6795151
Thanks for the info. I wonder what story they will peddle this time. Last week they seemed very sure that NEMAcon was going to run, so I wonder what changed...
>>
>>6795171
Because all the pressure sort of exploded on them, the guy'll say it's cause of his personal stuff (his girlfriend's in hospital and been ill for a while, she's up the duff)
>>
>>6795171

There's been a lot of questions about the charity fiddling last year and heavy criticism as to the way the questions were handled in the last week or 2 but the posts get deleted and brushed under the carpet very quickly.
>>
>>6795176
They basically spent the money on lolita brand items for his girlfriend, tv's, play station 3, new iphone and war hammer. It was all over BTB's awhile back when a secret was made about the event. In the end the manager admitted where he spent the money and the thread got hidden by the BTB's staff.

He also tried to blame his original staff team. He would change his mind every week on who to blame for the missing charity money and when BTB's caught him up he shut up for awhile or so it seemed. However he was asked constantly where the money went after this by concerned con goers. Again he dodged questions and began to blame his ex staff team.

He then began to higher a team full of teenagers and creepers because no one else wanted to work with him. It is a huge shame. Nemacon started as a con full of good staff full of heart with the best intentions, as soon as the manager got caught out for withholding the money and not letting the staff see the book’s filled with the incomings and out goings, the original staff team called him out then all left and started a new con. It is sad really that it went this way but it was the con goers who kept pushing the manger to tell the truth. He plain just could not keep his story straight. Yeah his girlfriend is apparently ill ATM due to her pregnancy but that is only a recent event. She was the one being nasty as fuck to people on the day of the con, her attitude was laughable really. So if Nemacon is finally finished I will be happy. HOWEVER he still needs to give the money BACK to the charities but I doubt he will, he has no morals or self respect. If he wanted to give the charity the money he would have done it by now.
>>
>>6795176
>>6795171
A girl on facebook private messaged him about the event. The manager got cocky so she publicly posted it and then many many many people complained about his attitude, so maybe that is why Nemacon is finished. Maybe he's finally realized no one will forgive him until he gives the money back to the chairities. So I am guessing he would sooner keep all the money instead of giving it back.

I for one hope the con dies. This guy is on job seekers and claming the con is non profit yet he's kept all the money. Isn't that against JSA law/rules? This guy is just an idiot so I am not surprised his previous staff team all left.
>>
> Rapist on the committee YEAH MAYAN.
Doing themselves many favours in trying to redeem their name XD
>>
The excuses for the trouble with the money ranges from a frozen paypal account to the cheque falling in battery acid.

GOD DAMN THAT BATTERY ACID, DAMN IT TO HELL!
>>
what's this about a rapist?
>>
>>6795245

Part of the Nemacon staff, a certain Mr. Richard Chung has a reputation of rape.
>>
As well as more general physical and mental abusive to women
>>
>>6795103 (OP)

Any more news?
>>
>>6799369
I heard a rumor someone had reported him to Town Hall and the gazette so maybe that's why it's cancelled?

Nemu isn't the kind of guy who would give a reach around.
>>
>>6799672

Yeah but for the local weebs who worship the very mention of Nema as if it were a sacred word are getting buttfucked hard.
Its a case of "scream until you like it" in the words of a certain Blackie Lawless.

Anyone else, they would be trying to attain favours by such methods but, 90% of the north east knows better,

There's been no official announcement but people are finding out one way or another,
>>
I suppose this is what happens when you try to host anything in that shithole Middlesborough.
>>
>>6799735

Most places in the NE south of the Tyne are utter shitholes
>>
>>6799887
>Most places in the NE south of the Tyne are utter shitholes
Most places in the NE north of the Tyne are utter shitholes. The whole place need sfucking nuking.

Not surprised that Nema's dead again. The reboot was announced with fuck all to support it, it took ages to get a website back up - and event that was just a blurry as fuck .jpg. All that was ever announced was 1 guest, a hetalia fan panel and MOTHER FUCKING BEYBLADES! YEAH!
>>
>>6799966

The central area around Newcastle is alright, in comparison to how utterly bad it is in say, Sunderland. URGH. :(

Sunnycon's self limited by keeping to Sunderland.
Least Onecon is gonna get some more attention with Nema dying out (again) though. The guys who stopped Nema flopping last year are on that team.
>>
>>6800072
>Sunnycon's self limited by keeping to Sunderland
I really don't understand why there isn';t a con in Newcastle. Newcastle's close enough and has bigger/better venues. You'd arguably get more people because Newcastle's not a complete craphole like Sunderland, so more people from outside the NE would be likely to come while still retaining the Tyne-Wear area communities.
>>
>>6800171

Tucky is a hardcore Mackem. No way he'd even think of taking his baby outside Sunderland despite there being no places bigger than what they're currently at there.

Newcastle would be an ideal place for a con or even Sunnycon itself.
>>
>>6800198

>>
>>6800261
Aye, even so, the pull power in Newcastle is much higher than Sunderland.
>>
>>6800341
You'd be surprised what Newcastle lacks. And what other options can provide. And the cost-effectiveness of said solutions.
>>
DUN FORGET THE LOCALS OF SUNDERLAND ARE INBRED. I MEAN IF A CON WERE TO BE IN NEWCASTLE, THE HEART OF THE NORTH EAST THERE'D BE LESS CHANCE OF EXPOSURE TO THE FOLK.

I MEAN, SUNDERLAND GAVE US ZOLTZ FFS.
>>
What a load of wank. Most NE cons are going down hill any way. Don't go blaming it on individuals. To those people, grow the fuck up and get a life.
Cons are for the anime/manga fans to have a good time and enjoy themselves. They don't need to hear your shitty slander about people.
>>
>>6800921
Confirmed for butthurt nemastaff
>>
>>6800261
>Unless shock horror, they erected something bigger. Much bigger. Wouldnt that be something.
That would be something. I'm assuming this is either some new venue that's going to come somewhere down the line (because that sort of stuff should be public knowledge) or you're just talking about some form of temporary structure like marquees - possibly in addition to a regular building?

>>6800623
A venue being cheaper in Sunderland than a comparable one that holds the same number of people Newcastle is not really surprising. I can imagine venues in Sunderland would be a bit more willing to go out of their way too since they'll need the trade more. The point isn't so much about the venue, more that a potential Newcastle con would have just as much pull for people in the NE as one in the Sunderland/Middlesborough ones but with the addition of further pull for people outside the NE, because Newcastle is a major city and nationally has a considerably better reputation than the other NE locations.

>>6800921
>Don't go blaming it on individuals.
I think we're well in our rights to blame it on individuals when they've been utter shitcunts and generally incompetent. What other reason is there for Nemacon failing than the actions of certain individuals? Should we blame magic pixies conspiring with Bob Geldof to rape every attendees bumhole with cucumbers?
>>
>>6800921

Nah, not all NE cons steal from charity and try to botch an attempt of covering it up.
Least Sunnycon in only it second year despite the amount of shit organisation, trounced everything else that's come up here convention wise.
Just goes to show, a convention in the ultimate shithole of the North East that's still finding it's legs can still outperform other cons up here and also potentially compete with other cons nationally if given the right guidance.

>>
>>6801977
I know that Sunderland had this reputation of being a bit rough but I took the chance and went to Sunny took 4 hours in the car, it was freezing but the locals were lovely. I was in the Morrisons café and the kids faces when the furries went in was awesome despite the arctic conditions. I always check the local reputation when I go to cons so far the worst have been MCM Birmingham and London and Doj Con. I'd place Ame in Stoke and Sunderland as some of the best and when people are mentioning Newcastle as a better city sure it may have a better infrastructure hotels and trains wise but you look at things like geordie shore or the hooligans smashing up their own city because they have a crap sports team and the same can be said for Millwall.
>>
I must correct you there son. Sunderland and Newcastle were both trashed due to the match riot. The Sunderland fans trashed Newcastle and the Newcastle fans trashed Sunderland.
Placing Sunderland and Stoke in comparison with MCM London, the UKs biggest con, is a joke.
I have been to cons all round the UK and Derby and London have been the best places for me and many other people.
According to many people SunnyCon was shit this year anyway.
>>
>>6801977
>you look at things like geordie shore or the hooligans smashing up their own city because they have a crap sports team and the same can be said for Millwall.
You've got the chance to encounter get dick heads anywhere really. Putting too mucb faith in media representations is stupid, especially crap like Geordie Shore where it's all fake shit. It's like saying you're not going to attending a Manchester con because of the Moss Side estate or Indians getting shot at Xmas, or going to London expo because of the riots.
>>
>>6802106
To be fair, some places you're likely to get hassle is nothing else. Depends really on where the venue is. Any self-respecting con isn't going to place the con somewhere dangerous, so apart from a few smart arses trying to embarrass you it's fine almost anywhere.
>>
>>6802053
>local reputation
>MCM London

All of my what, Canary Wharf, Greenwich and Excel Docklands are well known for their high crime rate, shabby council high rises and lack of shopping districts. How you can even compare the reputation of CM London and Sunny con is beyond me.
>>
>>6802097
Oh MCM fan I see. I didn't see any Sunderland fans trashing Newcastle in fact I believe it was 100% Newcastle fans in every video I ve seen there's not a red and white shirt among the hoards. Plus since when did MCM get classed as a 'con' I thought it was an expo!? Difference between MCM and other cons like Sunny and Ame is that MCM is a huge dealers hall (and not even official dealers) They do as sponsors dictate all choices guests and events have to be engineered so it's effective that the sponsors get to barrage you with their movies to maximum effect and cons like Sunny, like Ame/Aya and even J-con where you've visited are ran with fans in mind and MCM is just terrible atmosphere where you get the feeling it's solely for the money. Give me a proper convention any day over a cookie cutter MCMExpo
>>
>>6802177
It's the internet if people don't like it they can cry in a corner. My point is I'm selective of location when I travel to a con it costs me shit loads and some places from experience are better than others

Butthurt Mackem detected. You are aware that it's Sunnycons intention to be "the expo of the north" right?

Also, Sunderland is a shit hole and you can't dispute it. It's 100% FACT. No scientific evidence, it's just a fact.
>>
>>6802220
Meh hey I like Sunderland as a place and don't like Expos if you give a shit whip it out and fap away
>>
>>6802220
Is it a bad thing to want to be a larger convention?

I mean, shit, depends how they'd go about it.

If they went mcm cashgrabbing and basically hosting a fairly so-so event with no intention of really doing anything new, I'd understand the bitchyness of your sentiment.

But from what I know of them, they're mostly a bunch of slightly idealistic but fairly down to earth people who just enjoy the fuck out of running an event (most) people who go enjoy.

And if that's not all it needs to be I don't know what is.
>>
>>6802309
>Is it a bad thing to want to be a larger convention?
It's not a bad thing, I was mentioning it more as it makes comparisons with MCM slightly more relevant if that's where they're aiming.

I'm not 100% sold on Sunny yet, because the behaviour of some of their staff online has been a bit off putting from telling people in the britfag thread to fuck off and then deleting their posts to #passiveagressivehashtags and then there has been descriptions such as "Geordie Mike Towers" and associated unpleasantness alongside concerns of conflict of interest r.e. the con being an extension of their merch import business bandied around regarding the organisers.
>>
>>6802326
Eh, I didn't mind the hashtag guy, I know him and he does tread the line between douche and charmingly offensive. He's the kind of person you'd probably hate if you met him on the wrong day and wouldn't be quick to forgive.

I also know (most) of the committee and they're okay, one or two of them do come as somewhat of an acquired taste (hashtag guy especially).

Geordie towers is hardly right though, Tucky isn't a money-grubbing twat who runs cheap events to pre-legal girls and tries to sleep with them all while creating some sort of cult of personality. From what I know (because I was someone who wanted to buy without having to go through paypal) he was only selling through his former import business because the guy running the sunnycon website didn't want to have to handle it all and was apparently an all round prick.
>>
ITT people from either side of a river try to pretend they're as good as being in different countries.
>>
>>6802337
Mackems and Geordies hate each other because they're essentially the same shit. They're like little kids screaming "you're poo", "you're pooier", "you're pooiest" etc.
>>
Sunderland is a vile vile place. Tbf, Seaburn was on the very edge of the place so its like, a bit detached from the city centre area where all the scumshits are. Its nice, the people around there are nice and the venue was nice.

Sunny didn't go THAT well this year due to inept organisation and shit going wrong but they held themselves, they didn't steal or con anyone. Good times were had but its going to take a lot to compete with the big boys, more than a fucking 2 grand prize for a cosplay competition but they CAN do it, in a few years.

Also, there's hassle at every derby from both sets of fans. Its an ongoing thing, just because a Newcastle fan punched a horse doesn't mean Newcastle fans are the only of the 2 to partake in such silly things.

The North East in general is a pretty rough place but Sunderland, as a city itself is just a bit worse than Newcastle is. (Not going to bring in Sunderland's reputation for having a high amount of BNP and EDL supporters)

Newcastle would, logically be a better place for a con than Sunderland. Most people outside the north east don't know what Sunderland is nevermind WHERE it is. XD

Shitting on other cons isn't cool. It's poor behaviour if you have to make other people look bad to make yourself look good.

Its all stemmed down from what Nema did that they constantly get slagged off though.
They DID steal and lie to everyone about it, a few Sunny staffers were goers to last year's Nema and they're in the same boat as anyone else who paid to go there, spent money and stuff just to support a con who's cause was to... con.

Liam is a massive grade A dick and every one knows that btw. He doesn't give two shits if you call him a cunt to his face in any manner.

>like Ame/Aya and even J-con where you've visited are ran with fans in mind and MCM is just terrible atmosphere where you get the feeling it's solely for the money. Give me a proper convention any day over a cookie cutter MCMExpo

I think you're forgetting the point that MCM is run for profit....? It's a company that only runs to make money - that's not evil or bad, just business. Ame, aya, sunny etc are all run for fans BY fans on a volunteer basis. And to be fair these cons are dying out because even though the committees put in a year or two of shit hard work all they get is complaints from self-entitled anime fans. Not directed at the poster specifically, just what the general response is. People rip into MCMs for being money grabbing, then when self-funded cons run by fans don't do very well, they get ripped to shreds. All we'll end up with is MCMs because no one wants to take the risk.

>Its all stemmed down from what Nema did that they constantly get slagged off though.
Was more on about the slagging off other cons stuff.

Slagging off Nema's fair enough because it's well documented that it's sunk lower than even AL tier asshattery.

Yeah, Tbh, I WANT to go to MCM this year, just to experience it. Its unfair really to slate it without basis though, aye.

ONEcon, I believe should be given the chance, I know some people are a bit bothered by the association the staff or some of the staff had with Nema but, I got a feeling it'll be classy.

Sunny itself, isn't even fecking perfect but hey. The rock rolls on, see what happens and pops up

I think the issue is really that many people don't care (rightly or wrongly) about how a con is set up and whether it's for profit or not. All they care about is the end result and their experience of the con.

If the organisation's bad and stuff doesn't run on time so they have to wait, they'll complain. They don't care that one con staffer had to organise everything in their spare time, while the person doing a similar job at Expo is full time, paid and probably has assistants to help them. They care about how much they've enjoyed their weekend, not how much work people put into making the event enjoyable - which is a bit sad really.

I will point out that there are "for profit" cons like AL's Alcon and London Anime Con out there and they put everything else to shame in terms of cash-grabbing and general shittiness, so it's not necessarily whether a con is for-profit or not that affects how well it can be run.

It should be a decent con if anything, just to stop comparisons and put to bed any concerns that are raised because of Nemacons spectre.

The only concern I have is they haven't managed to get any dealers onboard yet other than a couple of etsy sellers who'd look more in place in an Artists Alley.

Go to MCM it will be an experience. For me I found it was the people who go that make it what it is rather than what MCM actually do but hey that's just one opinion in thousands that go. OneCon will be good the fan base is there and they rightfully have kept clear of any Nema drama and as for Sunny some people forget 2 years ago this con was nothing and now with 2000+ attendance that kind of step up is fucking huge with a bit more organization and lessons learnt from mistakes I'd say it'll be big as or even bigger than an MCM and with the quality of guests and the fact they focus on fan events and cosplay I can see it turning into something huge. Even the fact they hold it in a backwards shit hole like Sunderland makes it even more amazing. We can sit here mocking the fact they want to become the biggest con but they seem to have a knack for knowing what people want I can see the north east in general becoming a huge center for the anime fan community fuck I'm willing to travel from Brighton to see what this Onecon will be like and I'm going back to Sunny too because it will get even better and tbf it was pretty fun despite the cold. It's good to see the variety out there considering the north used to be an armpit for anything cultural I have a feeling in 3-4 years we'll see an influx of half Scottish speaking mackem/geordie/smoggy kids/weebs invading the southern events.

>I'd say it'll be big as or even bigger than an MCM
Not if they keep holding it in Sunderland. There's no where there large enough there for an MCM size event. Even the stadium wouldn't handle that level of attendance in a non-match environment. It oguth not to be hard to get a large attendance to an event in the NE given that you've got Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland etc all practically forming a giant conurbation.

>the fact they focus on fan events and cosplay I can see it turning into something huge
Fan panels aren't usually a consistent draw for people, if anything they scream "we lack events and content so let's let some spastics RP Hetalia and Homestuck characters on stage for half an hour because it's cheap". Also spunking away £2000 on a cosplay contest, that they initially gave to an ineligible person (any update on what happened with that anyone?), seems to be just an attention grabbing tactic - the cosplay "focus" was no more or less than any other con and the cash amount is much much more than other events offer to the point of absurdity. That money could easily do more for the con than bring in the few more cosplayers that are attracted by a big pay day.

>they seem to have a knack for knowing what people
Getting in US Voice Actors is a no brainer. Getting more than 1 is more of a no brainer, it's just a cost issue that most non-expo cons here can't meet.

It's funny how usually once Sunny's been knocked a few times we get an enthused post that follows a similar pattern - try other things! NE is great! Sunnycon is so amazing! It has it's faults but it'll come through! Mock them, but they'll be huge just you wait and see!

Thing is, they have the right idea and the tools to really compete with the big guns, there was a load of fuck ups on the organisational part of the con though that really held it back. A LOT.
The sound guy was a nonce who treat it like a fucking kid's disco for the weekend with the cha cha slide, harlem shake, gangnam style and caramelldansen on repeat. ERGH.
The PA itself kept cutting out and there was horrendous feedback whenever someone was talking.

Though, on the bright side its a very informal kinda unprofessional kinda con WHICH, they use to their strength, in a way.
If they can do better next year than they did this year without the fuck ups they'll be on the tracks for being something good.

Sure, Newcastle and Gateshead have much better and bigger venues to offer but I doubt Tucky wants to leave Sunderland...
