Castlevania IV > SotN but both are the gold standard of Castlevania.
When it comes to DS games, get Portrait of Ruin. Yeah the animu art is
annoying and yeah the protagonists aren't part of the classic
Castlevania line-up and Drac doesn't play too big of a role in the
story, but if you can get past all that (which you probably can since
you're new to the franchise), you have a kickass game. If you want a
RELIABLE REVIEW, we archived a thread a while ago about why it's
awesome. Uhhhh Aria of Sorrow is spectacular (GBA), Dawn of
Sorrow (DS) is the continuation of that and also pretty good (PoR is
better IMO but, well, that's just my opinion), Ecclesia is shit I'm
sorry to tell you OP (it had potential but it wasn't challenging and
way too linear, not the Metroidvania everyone likes) aaaand steer away
from the 3Ds. Actually they're allright for a weekend if you have
nothing to do because you can finish all of them in a matter of like
two days but don't go in with great expectations, is all I'm sayin'. tl;dr version - Super Castlevania IV, Symphony of the Night, Aria of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin. It
also just occurred to me that I'm on /cgl/ so you might be into the
franchise for PRETTY MENZ IN FABULOUS GARB (see: pic) opposed to
rockin' games, so Super Castlevania may or may not be up your alley. I
recommend it anyway because it's a fucking classic if there's ever been
one. also >>2522497 speaks the truth, Rondo's a goodie if you are able to obtain it.
