I feel that Sakizo's art shouldn't be cosplayed unless you are petite. If you're too tall or a little chunky you just don't look right in it. Look at Sakizo's art, her characters are mostly petite to the point that it resembles an undergrown adolescent if translated into real life.

And your corset better actually pinch in your waist because she never drew any bulging tummies.

Way too many corsets not serving their purpose.
>>
>>6697707
I really dislike this one. If I'm thinking of the correct artwork this was based off of, it didn't show the bottoms so she could have done a tutu or a panty bottom or something. These plain shorts look so stupid. At least add lace or rhinestones or something ugh...

Her bottom half isn't shown, actually. But it likely is meant to be a pair of boyshort panties, not shortsshorts.
>>
>>6697774
Durr. And you did say that bit about bottom half not being shown already. My mistake.
>>
>>6697774
Yes, I said that. I was saying that she could have used some artistic liberty and done something cute. It looks like a panty with a tutu around it and it would have looked much better than those shorts she has :/ But taking another look at the ref pic, it looks like it's super unfinished anyway. (hopefully)
>>
>>6697774
yeah but that big ruffle on the hip wasn't done at all in the costume
>>
>>6697779
Yeah, she's missing a LOT of details. If it's still WIP, though, why wear it to the convention?
>>
>>6697715
What are they all from? I'm only familiar in general with Sakizo's style of art, but not every series/design.
>>
>>6697780
She's also missing the cake on the headdress, a slew of ruffles, the standing collar and ruff and all the roses. It's ... rather lazy and sloppy looking.

She doesn't have a cake on her head either.

>>6697701
JFC it took me ages to recognize those were the ice-cream sisters. None of them are kawaii at all and strawberry is super manly in the face, not to mention her socks are sheer wtf. Choco-mint is missing her chocolate chips, wrong wig color, and her waffle cups look like Shrek ears that high on her head. The three outfits are obviously supposed to be the same with different color schemes and socks but wtf they look completely different. also flats. why flats.

I hate it when people do Sakizou cosplay and don't bother with accuracy. I get that it's a complex costume, but it just feels like an excuse for people to tramp around in frilly knickers without any accuracy.

On another note, the three in the back look gorgeous and fab, anybody got the original illustrations? I don't think I've seen them before.
>>
>>6697701
Not only is this poorly done - they are literally cosplaying wearing only undergarments to a public convention space. These illustrations are from a "beneath the dress" book, so tacky!

I looked at elements from similar designs where she did do full-length drawings of the characters and kind of improvised my own stuff. The important thing is to keep the look consistent with everything else going on. E.g. if the costume has say, gold in the top, adding some gold accents to whatever bottoms you go with can help tie the pieces together. Maybe having some gold bows or accents on the shoes or stockings too.

Has anyone read Sakizo opinion of people cosplaying from her art? There was a section on her website about it but the English translation is bad.

http://sakizo.jp/offline.html

'Please stop public presentation of the cosplay which requires the age limit.'

I wonder if what shes trying to say is that she doesnt want people to do the more 'adult' outfits outside of a shoot? IE the lingerie artworks. Maybe someone that can read Japanese could translate the Japanese blurb for clarification.
>>
>>6698216
Actually, I think you're right. Looking at the Japanese section, it's a bit more detailed and says to be considerate of the location and event restrictions. Also something about how she won't take responsibility for your actions as a cosplayer?

Then again, it could just be that she doesn't want minors wearing costumes based on her stuff. I've got no idea.
>>
>>6698216
>>6698230
I think its a mixture of the two. Seems she just wants people to watch how they act in public in costume, and also that younger people don't wear the revealing outfits. Basically what you'd expect of all cosplayers imo. Some things which would be fine inside of a convention become completely out of line once you leave the area.
>>
>>6698233
I wouldn't wear a Kneesocks/the other one costume out at a foodcourt, for example.
>>
>>6698216
"A lot of my works involve exposure of the skin, cosplays of these works can lead to things such as abuse for which I will not take responsibility. Please pay careful attention to the amount of exposure and use your judgment as to what's inappropriate. Moreover, please refrain from cosplaying things beyond your age. If you perform an act such as cosplay, or a photo session at an event or public place, please dress with consideration for the venue rules and location."

This is what I took from it as well. Don't cosplay something skimpy if you're under 18. Though I think most who cosplay Sakizo are adult, I haven't seen many younger cosplayers doing it because it doesn't appeal to them/too difficult to make.
>>
>>6697994
anon if you come back can you do Favorite March?
>>
>>6697715
The problem is those AREN'T corsets, they're sloppy bodices with no boning and are very poorly fitted. The biggest girl will smooth out and have an alright shape with a real corset.
>>
>>6698662
I probably won't get around to it this thread (about to head out), but likely for the next one. I'll also do Girl Meets Sweets 2 and Alice's World.

These are so lovely!

I would love to do a Sakizo cosplay myself one day, but I'm not that comfortable with wearing the lingerie stuff, and I don't think the corset+ruffly butt would look flattering on me (petite but rectangular shaped). These are more dress designed and would be adorable to make a cosplay from.
>>
>>6697715
>>6698672
>go to Sakizou meetup
>Everyone is wearing "fitted" bodices that are puckered or not laying properly.
>My costume involves a corset. Make it like an actual corset with steel bones, pulls my waist in a few inches.
>Be the only person there who used boning, grommets, lacing, etc.
>Everyone asks "Is that a REAL corset?"

People seemed seriously shocked that I added boning to it. All but two girls were wearing costumes that should have had boning or heavily interfaced portions but none of them seemed to bother. It was amazing because they actually had *good* costumes, I don't understand why they didn't bother to make sure they fit/laid right.
>>
>>6699635
honestly, the corset + ruffles looks fine on rectangular shapes since the corset gives shape and the ruffles obscure any more lack of shape
>>
>>6699678
Because most cosplayers focus on the outside when the inside can be much more important sometimes.

Hm.. you're probably right. But I will need to get more experienced with my sewing before trying to make a real corset.

Going to buy Sakizo's Alice in Wonderland book that's available right now. These cards designs are just amazing
>>
>>6699678
The way I interpret a lot of sakizo's designs is that they aren't really meant to be real corsets. Quite a few are, but there are a lot of them which are clearly just bustiers or longline bralettes. She even draws the seam lines on them the way they would be on a bustier rather than a true corset.

Thing is, most of the girls cosplaying as her characters are either too out of shape to manage a bustier without bulging out everywhere and need a real corset to get the shape she draws OR they do like you said and ignore the interfacing and plastic boning that would help smooth the shape out.

I want to cosplay as several of her characters, but refuse to do so until I'm in better shape purely because a steel boned corset would look nice, but give the absolute wrong silhouette to the costume with my current figure. Her characters are svelte and slim, but their corsets and bustiers don't give them an extreme waist change. They're fairly waifish.
>>
>>6699701
I just submitted an order for that one myself! The first volume of Alice's World has the heart and spade soldiers. I'd love to see a group of all four together done.
>>
>>6699712
Oh I would love to see that artwork! Also did you use EMS or Japanese postal service for shipping?

Do you think a Sakizo cosplay would look odd on a very short person (5'2)? All her designs look so tall and lean

Oh. And I'm sure your height is just fine. Just make the costume proportionate and that can fool the eye into thinking you're much lankier/taller.

Most attempts to really make the make-up a focal point just don't look right. Pic related. The actual character has make-up like that in the illustration, but on a real person, it ends up looking super harsh. Could be people need to learn to do the make-up better, though.
>>
>>6701876
I think heavy/exaggerated makeup can look clownish really easily. The costumes and hair are already so obscene, adding several inch long eyelashes and pounds of blush can get very unattractive very quickly. Especially at a convention where you are wearing it for many hours and often sweating.

I agree that people need to exaggerate it a bit more, but I think the literal representations look bad like >>6701897
>>
>>6701897

>>people need to learn to do the make-up better, though.

Even that is lack luster. These girls really need to figure out theatrical make up or they could get a drag queen to do their make up.
>>
>>6701904
I honestly don't find that a literal translation, all it looks like is a bad makeup job. Like did she even try to blend that eye-shadow out? It looks like she just caked on some red.

Some of it might also be skin tone. Most of the art depicts girls with very pale skin and very rosy cheeks and bright eyes. Hardly anyone is going to have a complexion pale enough to pull it off

>Way too many corsets not serving their purpose.

I really do not get that. The opportunity to wear a corset in a costume and have it:

1.seen (cause usually corsets are covered and no one knows the hard work you put into it)

2.actually help your figure with it being acceptable that it helps your figure. It's underwear cosplay people expect it to help the waist and boobs.

3.look even better than you normally do.

Why NOT make a real corset? I don't understand.

>>
>>6702719
As much effort as she put into the details, she really didn't figure out how to keep it all together in the end. I think she underestimated the weight of different parts of her costume and didn't find a solid way of rigging it to stay on properly.

I've been trying to figure out what I like more about some of the outfits colorwise and I realized something.

Why are almost all of the non-Japanese Sakizo cosplayers using WHITE everywhere?

Looking at Sakizo's art, everything is desaturated, low contrast, and in creams, with very little pure white, but then you get tons of super pure white in the cosplays and too much skintone contrast and it just looks wrong!

But then you get things like the absolutely perfect >>6699751 where everything is about the same color with splashes of white, or other colorschemes like >>6699747 and >>6699743 and it looks wonderful.

to do this right you need really low contrast, lots of creams, and TEXTURE!

I agree!!! I always wondered why people used stark white. I love Sakizo's artwork an one of the reasons why I wanted to make the costumes was because of all the different textures you can play with. Been working on my ice cream costume for a long time now, and I chose to go with different shades of creams for her lingerie. I used a more yellow cream diamond pintuck taffeta with a lighter and whiter solid cream fabric for the center. I also got different shades of cream laces and trims - along with dark red velvets and satin for her other trim. Even the stockings are cream. I also made a fully functional boned waist cincher for the first time ever. I figure it's a pretty attention whorey costume since it's straight up lingerie, so might as well try my best at the details and texturizing. I also went with switching all the pink polka dots to pink rhinestones. I like my bling and I think it looks good in real life. Hopefully I'll have this done by Wondercon!
>>
>>6708567
I honestly kind of wonder if it's not because most western cosplayers are going off of scanned images, which don't have the best quality/colour accuracy to the originals, so they just insert white instead of using creams? Beats the shit out of me, to be honest.

Keep in mind almost all the pictures you link are filtered with beige/cream overtones which changes a lot, the first especially.

That being said most Sakizo cosplayers seem to have no imaginative use of textiles or colours and end up looking fairly boring.

This anon again...

Alice Books haven't replied to my mail yet (it's been 3 days now) So I just guess I'm out of luck. I really wanted that Alice in Wonderland book, but I guess I'll just have to order the delicious girl book and be happy with that...
>>

Is your regular email the same as the email you listed for PayPal? Check your PP account directly to see if they sent an invoice.
>>
>>6709694
Yes it's the same email, so it had the exact same spelling mistake. I could kick myself for not spellchecking
>>
>>6709697
Send them an email here: international@alice-books.com

It may take a few days to answer, but I had an invoicing issue last time I ordered and they were able to help me out. Hopefully, they'll be able to sort you out. Let them know what the "incorrect" email was and around what time/day you ordered (convert to their time if you're in the US/Europe/elsewhere to be safe). Hopefully they'll honour that order.
>>
>>6709708
That exactly what i did. I told them I had accidently put in a spelling mistake in the email, saying what the email I put in was and which email was the correct one. I also said exactly what I ordered and on what day.

Maybe I should wait until the end of the week until putting up another order
>>
>>6709722
Yeah, end of the week should be okay. I checked my past emails and it took them a good two days to answer me, though I'm in a similar time zone. I think that their English staff probably only works a few days a week.

And that's the last of Alice's World. Only Dress Up Dolls left to go, but I've got to run again. So another time for those, I'm afraid.

The rest of what I own can still be purchased from Alice Books, so I won't be scanning those.

oh okay then.

Do people cosplaying these not realise boning exists? Even plastic boning would be better than the shapeless 'corsets' most of the cospalyers in this thread have.
