How do you choose which character to cosplay? Do you go for your favourite characters? Or characters that look more like you? I'm sort of stumped because characters I like don't look like me and vice-versa.pic unrelated
Contrary to what they preach, most of /cgl/ chooses characters based on their popularity, and how much attention they would get for cosplaying the character. Resemblance is also "important", but by "important" I mean if you have an up to ~10% resemblance you're a ~*PARUFEKTO*~ fit for the character.
i just go for who i really like or can relate toor otherwise i just go for characters with a nice design
Whoever the fuck you want. The point is to make yourself look like the character.
Cosplay the characters you like...its supposed to be about having fun, not being an look-alike attention whore.
I pick in order.>1. "I fucking love this character">2. "Would I suit this character at all?">Yes to 2:Do it>No to 2:Start overThis is just a new policy I invented after my latest convention. Usually I cosplay whoever I want, but I don't really have the face or bodytype to do that anymore, so now I have to take that into consideration as well.
In order:1. How much I like them2: Does body type fit (face, height etc.)3. How hard costume is to make4. Can I attentionwhore in it
Well, I have a lot of characters I love, so I decide who I'd LIKE to cosplay, then decide who I practically CAN cosplay out of that list, due to physical appearance, ability, that sort of thing.
I always go after whether I can relate to that character or not. If there's a character I really love and I can relate to, I'm going to cosplay that.Even though sometimes I can be way to tall for a character (for example, when cosplaying Taiga Aisaka... and I'm 5"8..) then I try to make up for that through putting even more effort in the costume itself, and in the wigs and stuff. Since Anime characters are pretty much always way too small for me..
>do i really like the character>do i think i have the ability to do the character>do i think i look enough like the characterIf the answer is yes to two or more then I'll give it a shot. But I wouldn't really cosplay a character I didn't like. And I put more effort into some cosplays. Not sure why, I'm just more eager to do some than others. Haven't really done one yet that I REALLY wanna do though.
>>6160241I actually agree with this.I don't like cosplaying obscure characters that nobody will recognize even if I really like them. I'd rather do something that'll get recognized. Usually I cosplay from recent anime because it's not done often but the people that do watch anime will recognize it. I like picking outfits that stand out or are complicated as well. Like yeah, I love Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, but I wouldn't cosplay Kafka because that outfit is generic and obscure as fuck. But I'd much rather cosplay Silica from Sword Art Online because it's recent, a really cool design, and the anime's pretty popular as well.
>>6161111>>6161120>>6161135>>6161175And heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's the hypocrite train.
>>6161218Do explain.
I choose the character I love the most among those with my same build.I can't really pick the one I relate to cause they're usually really short and I'm tall as fuck.
>>6161218...what?
>>6161243Let's take that supposed "/a/" thing. No male, unless he has serious issues in his brain, would dress like that. The character is not likable, since there is no character. And the resemblance part?>Wears glasses?>Let's do this shiiiiit!Exactly the 10% I was talking about.Basically, you went straight for 4.And it's not just that, it was the most glaring example, so don't give me the cheap "oh but that was just--" excuse.>>6161230To be perfectly fair I have never seen you cosplay, but I heard you did that horse thing?
>>6161270But... I always liked the tans, I'd wanted to do /a/-tan a while ago with my Italian friend as /v/ sometime. It was pretty glaring but I covered points #1 and #3 as well. #4 was done because their original /a/-tan dropped out. If it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have done it.You'll just ignore me anyway though, so whatever.
>>6161270Yep, I did Applejack, nothing that makes me physically ineligible to cosplay that character, I even got a bit of a tan for it. You're clearly talking out of your arse to call me a hypocrite when you haven't even seen me cosplay, eat a dick.
>>6161283I've read it, so there's no need for tears. What did you like so much about them, do tell.>>6161285kk I see you like them adhoms. I didn't expect much of you anyhow.
>>6161301Oh yes, it's totally ad hominem to say your opinion on my cosplay has no value when you have never seen my cosplay. Jesus wept, why do you even try.
>>6161301I like meta stuff like that. It's why I like /q/ and /v/ so much. Plus like I said, I wanted to do /v/-tan with my friend. Not to mention, skirts are included.
>>6161243>>6161230>"you tripfags, you bad, here is why"Just be all 'lolk' and move onNo need to derail the thread trying to defend yourself on the internet
>>6161321I was familiar with your previous history of being a lolita though, my vitriolic friend. And your general thought pattern behind it.>>6161324/q/?>>6161330And here's the great king himself. Do you think /cgl/ is filled with enough newfags yet, that they will believe you started cosplaying to... express your love to some character? Seriously? I still remember who you were. And you did not change.By the way, it is purely a coincidence that I select all the trips ITT.If say, God were to post in this thread, I would not call him a hypocrite (because, you know, he's not, unlike you).
>>6161324Oh right, you meant the board, not that some world-class intellect already made a caricature of /q/ too.Fine then. You like skirts because you believe it is fashionable for men to wear woman's clothes? Or do you long for a sex change? Or do you "just like" skirts for no reason at all?
>>6161339What does lolita even have to do with this thread? It's about cosplay. I'm not imitating a character with lolita, there's nobody I should physically resemble. You really are grasping at straws here, just admit that you're assuming things about my cosplay because of how I act and move on. It's not a big deal to lose an internet argument because you're wrong, you know?
>>6161341They're like shorts, they're comfy and easy to wear. And we're all human, so I don't see why some people are restricted from wearing certain clothing because it's only for some people. Sounds weird but I guess it's just fun to wear 'em sometimes. Jeans are still god-tier for me though.Anyway, I'm gonna stop replying cause Adventure Time starts soon.
>>6161339blue is very cool guy he never hit on underage girls like other creepers here and he loves to cosplay and very fit
>>6161355Fair enough. So you're planning to do more characters that wear skirts in future, I assume?>>6161352It is hard to argue on the Internet with someone who cannot lose, unless it's someone you know and like and jerk in circles.
>>6161367Trying to work out if you're spouting meaningless shite or if I'm just more drunk than I realised, it's about 50/50.
>>6161367Maybe. I already do Yosuke.
>>6161373Oh, you're intoxicated. Good for you.
>>6161391When am I not?
>>6161399When you go to the Church, every Sunday morning? At least I hope so.
>>6161360yeah because that fat-turned-skinny (which equals FITIZEN RIPPED OMG to him and his e-frends) ttly never tried to hit on our precious pure virginal underage angel, shayniiNOSIRif I met Blue IRL, he'd shit his pants, too bad he lives in a backwater incest country
>>6161415also it's not like I like shaynii or am from Portland or anything
>>6161406That's true, normally just hungover. Don't think that'd go down too well somehow.
>>6161415sounds like someone jelly that he did nto get to take virginity of pretty girl like private tosser
>must know the character and like him enough to want to represent>compatible body and face>must be interesting and fun to make
>>6161415>incest countryMaybe you should pick up a history book sometime and learn about all the wonderous times we've been invaded and what that tends to do to a country.Yes we're an Island (though we have no always been by any means), but you can SWIM to France if you so feel like it. Thusly it's not stopped most of Europe visiting in the past.Dickhead.
