On Sunday we rolled out new HTML for 4chan's imageboards. The new code validates HTML5/CSS3, the design should appear exactly the same, pages should load slightly faster (especially long threads), and extension/user script/archive developers should have a much easier job parsing our pages. This is the first time in approximately ten years that it has been updated.

If you are using an extension or app that has not been updated for the changes, some features may not work—you will need to wait for the developer to update their extension/app to be compatible with the new HTML. If you haven't downloaded it already, try the Official 4chan Chrome Extension.

The most significant changes with the new HTML are a new mobile-optimized layout for phones, and inline extension features. Check them out by clicking [Settings] in the upper-right (make sure you don't select features that conflict with those from an extension though), or visit 4chan from your phone!

We are still working through a few bugs with the new code. Please report any bugs you find to newhtml@4chan.org.

Why is it that when they come to anime cons /cgl/ complains says they shouldn't be there and should get their own con, but once they get their own they say it's not needed?
>>
>>5860099
Agreed. If there's enough demand, they should have their own con.

I don't know but I would like to go honestly. I'm supposed to be visiting Austin for moving purposes so this would be a fun thing to do there

>mfw a ton of little girls and middle aged guys with questionable hygiene show up
>mfw they're forced to interact with each other
I would so not fucking leave my kid go to these things unattended before the age of 12.
I'd keep an eye on them with the pretense of wanting to go to the convention.
>>
>>5860248
>leaving a kid ANYWHERE before they were 12.
Wut
>>
>>5860248
This. I don't really care that they're having one, but I'm envisioning a disaster based solely on the attendees. Little girls and bronies sounds like a bad time.

Brought to you by the same people who did Ikkicon and Anime Overlord.

>>5860268
You can, but it depends on where is anywhere.
Public places are obviously a no, as are their uncle's houses if she's not going with another two-three people and that uncle is recently divorced.
But… school is sort of a must.

At school, you're afraid of some sicko teacher. At a church, you're afraid of some sicko priest. At a relative's home, you're afraid of some sicko relative. Kids can't go anywhere these days and it's kinda sad.

>>5860326
This.
The way society is now is depressing.
Kids at the park are adorable but watching them play automatically brands you as a pedophile now.
>>
>>5860360
No, it doesn't.
Fucking them does, and the fact that there are people who fuck them is a concern that's very much rooted in reality.
>>
This is good. Now ponyfags can fuck off and go to their own conventions instead anime events.
>>
>>5860753
Go hang out at a park and watch kids play.
When someone asks you which one is yours and you say "none." let me know that goes for you.
>>
>>5861006
then you say you're just taking a break
I don't know what shithole you live in, but over here parks aren't just for kids
and normally people don't come up to you asking about said kids

*daughter, even
>>
There already is one, and it's been around for years...granted, it encompasses ALL pony generations.

But heaven forbid the G4 pony fans interact with the G1, G2, and G3 pony fans!
>>
The biggest reason I'm against this is that the brony community is made up of a bunch of really awkward and incompatible kinds of people.

You've got the serious tryhard fans who are always trying to get others to "join the herd"
You've got the wannabe musicians who think rapping about ponies is cool (it isn't)
You've got the honestly insane roleplayers who insist you call them by their ponysona name and have no sense of sarcasm.
Then you have the scrawny, chickenshit spaghetti-pouring-from-the-pockets social retards who think that liking the cartoon is like a badge of honor and bravery.
And somewhere in all that, you've got that 40 year old spinsters who still collect the old toys like they were fucking dragon balls.

What part of that sounds like a fun convention?
>>
>>5861810
Would you consider a young, yet still older than the target audience of the show, girl/boy who just enjoys watching the series a brony too? Because I don't really see that listed in your comment, but I'm sure they do exist!
>>
>>5861836
They do exist. In fact, I'm one of them. I like the show, but I'm not a spaz about it. However, it's that exact reason why I'd never go to something like this. The show is funny and all, but it doesn't deserve a convention. More importantly, the insane fandom behind it doesn't deserve any support for their misguided behavior.
>>
>>5861857
I'm one myself too, but I have to be honest, from the sound of your post I'm a bit worse. I got invited to a few brony meetups but I don't have the courage to go, so I wouldn't go to a con like this if there was one in my country I guess. But I suppose it does kinda deserve one, seeing as there are so many people interested in it, but there's also this >>5861762..
I think bronies are very kind, but a lot of them just do a lot of weird stuff which makes them look terribly creepy.

You are aware that there are numerous brony cons across the US and even some here in the UK, right?

You realise that the brony community is as varied in scope and works in a similar way (even pornographic stuff and the odd fursuit) as the furry community, right?

G4 Pony cons have been and gone over the last 6 months and functioned perfectly well. Hell, there's one near me I shall be attending this year.

I'm a brony and I don't fit into any of the catagories stated by >>5861810 There IS a 'normal' brony archetype too, y'know. Besides, anime cons are filled with all sorts of incompatible people and still work well. The fans may seem extreme, but then the same things stick out for EVERY fandom- the worst of the crop.

Hell, I met my current girlfrind at an MLP metup, I don't see why a con would be any less functional. People sell art, plushies, costumes and custom figurs all the time. There are fan musicians, animators (some very impressive) and a good deal of show-related people to invite to panls and such.

I can't say I know about the organisers, but there really i no arguing that a brony con can work.
>>
>>5861857

When enough people like something that they want to create a meeting place to have fun, have panels, and get autographs, why shouldn't they have a convention? Conventions aren't some holier-than-thou area where it's only for big genres. What about Minecon, Invadercon, and Star Trek Las Vegas? Seriously you just need to get your hea out of your ass and let people have fun.
>>
its not like you're forced to go op

who the fuck cares?
>>
>>5861810

Congrats retard, you just described every fandom ever.

>Pushing others to join the fandom
>Musicians making shitty music ( though this applies more to furries in general, still a point though. )
> Insane roleplayers. Apparently you don't know what livejournal or yaoi fangirls are.
>Social retards who think what they like is the best shit ever
>40 year old people who think *insert genre here* was better when they were kids

Seriously you can apply that to anything. Anime, comics, movies, Star Wars, what the fuck ever. Get a better argument.
>>
As someone who has been collecting MLP for 10+ years, this whole Brony phenomenon is just... creepy. Which is really sad because I do like the TV show and I do like that Hasbro is having success. It's just... bronies. I don't like them. And all their cosplays are usually shit.

I expect MLP to be the next Sonic. Full of aspies doing recolors on DA of their ~OCs~
>>
>>5862073
I know how you feel. I'm a huge Sonic fan, love the games like mad, but I can't touch the 'fandom' with a 20ft barge pole. You either have people forever arguing about classic vs. modern, or, as you've stated, shitty recolours and OCs, or shippers who haven't even played the games. They're all about Sonamy, and Shadouge and kawaiigaythreesome!sonicshadowsilver OR BIG THE CAT X TIKAL X CHAOS 6 X FUCKING FROGGY AHHHHH

To all you Bronies and Homestucks and Hetalians (?) and whatnot, I'm sorry for what your fandoms put you through. I'll never judge you based on what you like.
>>
The thing with bronies is that as soon as the show ends they'll have nothing.

They'll either cling to it for years (which is what I expect) or they'll all just fade away.
>>
I would totally go, if for nothing else, to people watch, I bet it's gonna be great for that.

>>5860277
Find out that above fact makes it all the more hilarious.
>>
>>5862138
Actually, there are enough talented animators and people who would love to see it done that when the show ends, ther will be others pick it up and create fan pony episodes, maybe even for donation, paid for by the fandom.

Hell, I've seen genuine discussions over hiring the studio to make more unofficially when the licence ends, other times even talking about buying the rights to the whole franchise from Hasbro.

There were several Br/P-ony cons last year, some of them were officially sanctioned too.

There is nothing new about this. And this will not satisfy the brony's hunger, and they will continue to push their brony ways at cons, just as much as the Homestuck community will.

I'm one of those people that has seen the first season of MLP and enjoyed it but didn't too much gloat about it. Just watched it with my boyfriend because it was cute, colorful, pure and funny. The second season not so much for me but I'll give it a watch every now and then. Boyfriend sees what bronies are and what they do and has been turned off the show completely.

I had a guy come in a store I work at with a MLP shirt and I'm pleasant/polite and don't judge any customer. The guy was a regular too so I knew he was just a teenage boy, average looking and nothing bad to be said about him.

I just said hey nice shirt and we had a less than a minute of MLP discussion and noticed that we got a few glares from other customers that eavesdropped. One girl actually whirled her head back with widened eyes and stared at both me and the kid just labeling us there and then.

The conversation went as this
>Hey nice shirt, man. Do you need a reciept?
>No thanks. And cool, I didn't know you watched the show. Rainbow Dash is pretty cool.
>Yeah man I kind of dig Rarity but I haven't watched the show in a while
>Oh it's pretty good.Well thanks anon, I'll see you around!

I swear I noticed around five eyes darting back, as if they expected a huge hambeast with a MLP shirt or something. I dunno. People need to chill.

I am curious as to what point you are try to make. There are lots of different kinds of people who enjoy MLP.
If you wish to discuss something, use your own words.
>>
>>5862707
It's called "cosplay". You dress from a certain show, you're more likely to make friends with other people who enjoy that show and/or cosplay from that same show. I'm not saying that happens in every case, but you were alone, and you were showing (I guess Big Mac is pony related) that you shared a similar interest, so they included you as one of their own.

Every brony I've ever met was very nice, but tolerant is not the word I would use for them. They are nice until you mention you aren't a fan of the show, and like the Homestuck fandom, they leap all over you trying to find the reasons you dislike what they like, and try to invalidate those reasons. They want to talk to me about MLP so bad, that they have to convince me that the show/culture is so great that I will ask them all kinds of questions about the show and admit my opinion was wrong.

The day I tell a Brony, in person, at a con that "I don't watch/enjoy the show" and they say "Okay, that's cool", I will gain respect for them, and see them as fellow congoers.

TL;DR: Not hating on Bronys, but I wish the ones I have dealt with were more tolerant.

I'm a fan of the show, I'll admit. I'm not overboard "I'M HARDCORE BRONY," like some dipshits are, but it's an ok show. It's been explained best as having those cartoon elements we remember from our childhood. More guys watched cartoons than girls (sorry, it's true). Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack, etc. Same feeling. Good writing.

My problem with bronies is the same I have with anime fans. There's a lot of weird ass creepers out there. 900 lb pinkie pies. Meh. I'm not offended because I'm not a weeaboo. You don't like the show, that's cool, bro.
>>
>>5862754
I can't view the community as a whole because I believe it's very divided. Many I assume are casual fans and can casually talk about it with their close bronys.

One day, when McDonalds had the MLP toys going for kids meals, I saw a father keeping the toy away from his daughter, and I heard the word "Brony" mentioned, I didn't catch most of what he was saying over his cell. She was maybe 3 years old, and he was keeping the toy. He didn't bother to purchase a separate one. I never saw a mother at the table or anything like that the whole time either.

I lost my appetite that day, and I try to reserve judgement, but that image is gonna haunt me long after I gain more tolerance for such a community.

And since I haven't said it yet, I've watched 5 different eps of the show. I disliked them all. Yes, I dislike the show.

Some people are just dicks.

You'll always find dicks in every community- some of the people here, some in /a/, /mlp/ is the ass-end of pony culture, too. I'm a part of a brit pony community, UKofEquestria, though and almost never see that kind of dickishness.

Generally pony communities are fairly friendly, given the whole message the show is trying to convey, but as ever... rotten apples and glorious, tasty cupcakes in the same batch, just like all communities.

That's pretty much what I'm trying to say. Otaku guys have loved cute shows for little girls and other moe-esque anime for decades, it's not a big deal. However bronies are ex-normalfags or just normal geeks so they think it's such a new and rebellious thing for guys to love something like Pretty Cure series. I think they're actually just feeling insecure about it so they have to make such a huge number out of it and make a clown of themselves.
