    Greetings fellow kleps,

Well I think stealing of any kind is just wrong.

Some of us just dont have a choice; kleptomania is a real condition.

Youre fucked up if you think any form of stealing is acceptable.

At least we harbor guilt and feel bad about our actions no matter who or what we steal from.

I never steal things from cons. The temptation and this simple fact that it would almost painfully easy to steal from booths at cons is always there, but the idea of stealing from your own people seems fucked up.

On a side note this is the song that was playing when I first saw this thread. How appropriate...

Not >>5817396 but I can see where he's coming from. Stealing from corporations or individuals who already extort, lie, steal etc. would probably be better in the long run to preserve natural justice.

But stealing from honest people is wrong, and you shouldn't blame anything on a 'condition', rather take responsibility for your faults and work your ass of to change yourself.

You are a fucking idiot, when you steal you are not taking money from the big bad corporation that sells overpriced items (bawww how am I gonna live whitout this item, my life is ruined!). You are stealing from the poor people paid SHIT to sell the product and definitely not perpetrating "natural justice".

After maybe three years of regularly stealing stuff (Almost everything less then $30- once I took a dress worth $100) I got caught for an $8 ring. After hiring an expensive laywer, it doesn't stay on my record (at least not really) and I'm haunted everyday when I think of it. Over all- don't do it, not worth it.

But anyone who thinks klepto is voluntary, it's not. Shit's like our drug.

why on earth did you get a lawyer? I got caught stealing >$30 at wal mart once. it's your first offense and all you need to do is apply for AR and it won't be on your record. There's absolutely NO reason to have a lawyer for that. You just need to go to court, apply and pay.

The main thing that stealing does though is that it counts towards and over loss (because you /aren't/ the only fucker stealing) and in order to make up for it, prices go up. There are other factors as well, but if you think shit's expensive to begin with, you aren't helping by stealing it.

I don't see the justice in treating kids like that and people in the actual law profession don't either. This is honestly just an example of how extreme the police state is in England.

Yeah. My little brother got taken in for.. sigh, stealing magnetic earrings from Claire's accessories. I think he was 13 at the time.

To be fair it's not entirely the Police's fault, they have to do what they have to do if they are called. The /store/ can very easily not call the Police when it's something stupid like this but a lot of the time they over react. This doesn't tend to be the case for bigger stores (like Debehams, BHS etc) which have their own in house security, so if it's just silly kids they will deal with it themselves, usually.

I actually have no idea if my little bro had a mugshot/finger prints/DNA taken though, I'd have to ask him.

Oh stop whining. So they gave you the full theft treatment. That's their job. We have that here too with the Scared Straight program where they take kids that smoke/drink/steal/fight and put them in an actual prison for a day to experience life behind bars.

If you got picked up for stealing at a young age and they treated you like they would any other person they caught breaking the law, that would make you want to steal less.

I don't think they ought to change it at all. From the time you're a toddler you're taught that stealing is wrong. Every parent ever has said to their child "Don't take what isn't yours."

If you're a young child, I can see why that would harsh but if you're over 12 then you damn well know better and if you steal and get caught for it, they shouldn't hold back.

Simple talking to does shit and people in this thread can tell you that.

A teenager is not a child. If a six year old steals something, yes you ought to just tell them to put it back because they didn't pay for it but if a sixteen year old steals, they wouldn't learn shit if you just made them put it back.

I stole candy when I was young just because I didn't want to pay for it and I'd repeatedly steal it until finally a security guard caught me and they put it on my record. Yeah, everyone steals at least once in their life but that doesn't make it right considering most kids/teens steal stuff just because they want it. Nail polish, toys, candy, etc. If you get away with stealing a few times and don't feel bad for what you've done, you're more likely to keep moving up to stealing more expensive stuff and then when you're finally caught you'll be in much more trouble than you would have stealing candy.

I know people who steal items worth several thousands of dollars every year from Wal*Mart and sell them in their neighborhoods or to the families of friends/friends of their family. None of them have ever gotten caught and they've taken things as large as HD televisions and PC bundles. On any night, they can go in and get around 10-15 discs (DVD, games, etc.) within 5 minutes and they take the cases to leave as little evidence behind as possible.

Maybe you just got lucky, idk.

What nonsense. You may want to find out a little more about how non-whites who even just suspected of possibly committing crimes are treated.

Perhaps you missed the riots last year. The second day kicked off when the police decided to stop and search a black child. He refused. They called even more offices, forcibly searched him in the streets, found nothing and then... arrested him anyway. Result: Riots, Day 2.

You, on the other hand, deserved the treatment you got. You were a thief and you got caught.

I have a three-year-old son, and we live in a very small town.

If he ever gets it into his head to go through a klepto phase while growing up, one of our family friends in the police department has standing orders to ensure he's handcuffed, put in the back of a vehicle alone for a little while, and spends at least an hour in a holding cell, completely alone, before I come pick him up (and THEN the real trouble starts).

Luckily he's a pretty straight kid, so I hope he never has to go through it. But fucked if I'll sit back and let my kid grow up without a healthy understanding of right, wrong, and punishment.

I stole a lot when I was a dumbass kid in high school. I would hit up the mall and go for clothes, make-up, books, etc.

I finally got caught taking a pair of granny panties as a joke, and had to go to court. It cost hundreds of dollars to go through the process with a lawyer, etc. I also lost a lot of my parents' trust.

I have earned it back and haven't stolen in 7 years, and I don't plan on stealing a single thing ever again. It's fucking stupid. If you can't shake your habit, get a therapist.

And no, stealing from ~big corporations~ is NOT justified. You know what they do when they take losses? They let employees go, pay them less, or charge more for their shitty products. You aren't "sticking it to the man".

Also, I can confirm as a US citizen that they will arrest minors, cuff them, take a mugshot, take your fingerprints, etc.

Kids don't go to prison for a "little" shoplifting. You have to have multiple convictions. But yes, you CAN be convicted for anything illegal and serve time for it.

Doing something illegal at any age is still illegal. If you're a little child, they won't do that. If you're a pre-teen or a teenager and you've been caught stealing multiple times, they will.

I'm not sure why you're so hyped up on fingerprints/mugshot/DNA. I'm from the US, and I had a passport when I was six years old (meaning my fingerprints and photos have been on file ever since then), and birth certificates usually list stuff like blood type, and if you have hair on your body you leave DNA everywhere you go.

It's not like any of that information was out of the government's reach before you became a criminal. Unless you're referring to the event as being traumatic?

Hell, you need to give more personal stuff just to get a job. They look at your records, make you do mandatory drug testing, etc.

This is a completely retarded analogy, but since you genuinely appear not to understand, let me explain:

I'm not concerned with the "right" or "wrong" of a law. There are plenty of laws I think are wrong at all levels of legislation, and I'm part of groups working to change them. However, thinking a law is wrong is not an excuse. You can't tell a policeman "Oh, sorry, I don't think a little shoplifting is a big deal, so you can't arrest me."

My approach is based in reality, not idealism. A law may be wrong, but it's still the law, and if you break it there are still consequences. Thus, to avoid consequences, avoid breaking the law, and if you happen to be lucky enough to live in a country where the people's voice matters, work to change laws you don't like.

I could never nick items from a con. Well, maybe I could, but i know that even the dealers there are selling ridiculously marked up items to support themselves. The AA, though, deserves better than that. Otherwise:

    >Don't take anything you can't conceal on your person until after you've past anyone who will want to see some proof of sale.
    >If you're going to slip something into your pants or pocket, make sure you're in a blind spot to both cameras and other people.
    >Most superstores have security, but if you do the above well enough and act like you aren't jacking their shit, you won't be suspected in the least.
    >Vanity items like jewelry and electronics are where security gravitates and/or watches on camera more.

That's all I can think of right now. And I know that in America, if you get caught trying to shoplift an item valued under... $20 I think, legal action can't be taken against you. Chances are they'll remember your face, though.

That's actually the American tradition of a groom being marched down the aisle to his pregnant wife with the barrel of a gun being rammed into his back by his new wife's enraged father. It's how my parents got married actually, just this version involved my dad knocking my mom up and then his father threatening to call his commanding officer if he wouldn't marry her. We call that a military shotgun wedding.

The fact that people would use that as an excuse for any crime just demonstrates how little sense of responsibility women have for their actions. No wonder they're so fond of accusing men of rape when they're worried they'll be called a slut.

Don't care what people in this thread are arguing about I'm just mad that people legit think getting a rush from theft or just enjoying stealing things = kleptomaniac.

It doesn't. I know, I legit have it and it's balls. I walk out of stores with little things in my pockets all the time that I don't remember putting there.

Don't blame your theft on a legit mental disorder. You're not a klepto, you're just a freaking thief. And if you get caught, really you have no one to blame for yourself.

one time I stole a Batboat toy from my next door neighbor. I'm pretty sure his mom knew. But it's ok, because he and his other friend stole my Pokemon Blue and all of my brothers' Pokemon cards before while I was showing them how to play Command and Conquer

haven't read the thread but i work (higher up/management) at a grocery store that isn't even that big of a chain and i can safely say that kids stealing candy/makeup does NOT have any effect on raising prices or firing employees (unless the employees are the ones stealing). that being said, yes i know right and wrong, and, yes, some big corporations "deserve" it by marking up prices on some items that target specific groups (not talking about race specifically btw and not suggesting some races steal more than others). there is a store in my hometown that charges significantly more than the MSRP than everywhere else in town on certain stuff. also, saying stealing is wrong in every circumstance? sure smells like privileged moralfags in here. our loss prevention dept will blatantly look the other way on homeless people stealing basical necessities. tl;dr, you guys are retarded and know nothing about chain retail stores.

that being said, "kleptomaina" isn't an excuse/something that "forces" you to do stuff. just sayin

    Janitors can only delete posts.

So, unless you've just committed ban avoiding by changing your IP address, you were, obviously, not banned.

I fucking love doing it, but got caught by accident (tripped in a store, my messanger bag released it's contents.)

;-; grand theft, anti shoplifting device (Alpha S3 Hand key), misc tools of the trade, etc..

    ;_; 10,000$ bond, different city...

Yet I still do it, the sad part is I don't fall under klepto.. (and neither do most of you.)

Klepto = stealing for the rush of stealing without any real need/want for the item being stolen.
Thief = Wanting to steal the item for personal use.

Look it up in the DSM bitches, also look the other stuff-- you'll have tons of mental conditons you CGL bitches.
