  • Attention 4chan extension/user script/archive developers: Some time in the next few days, we'll be rolling out a complete HTML rewrite of the imageboards.
The design will remain the same, but the underlying HTML/CSS is completely new, and validates HTML5/CSS3 (with some tweaks to account for cross-browser compatibility).

Please visit this thread to read more about the changes, and here to preview the code.

As a regular user, these changes should not affect you. You will need to update your 4chan browser extensions/user scripts when their maintainer updates them to be compatible with the changes.
The official 4chan Chrome extension will be ready to go when the updates happen, and 4chan X should be ready soon. We'll post more details on the day of the migration!

Hey /cgl/. I've always wanted to go to Otakon in Baltimore. I've been to >10 cons, and really wanna go to the big show, so to speak. The only problem is that I live in Memphis, TN. I'm contemplating driving there with one of my fraternity brothers this August. Although it's be about a 16 hour drive, we think we could make it in one day. My only question is this: Is going there worth it? How's the rave? Is is really THAT great? thank you :)

I've gone every year for quite some time now...I loved it a lot when I was younger, but I honestly think it has gotten too expensive now. It's barely worth it for me to go, and I live 45 minutes away. If you've never been I'd give it a shot. The location is lovely and there's stuff to do outside of the con if you got deathly bored. Great eating in that area too, there's a little mall right next to the convention center.

Cool. Also, I've been to Acen. Is it really THAT much noticably larger of a con than Acen?

Not if you go in August, the con is in July.

    But otherwise, YES!!!

16hrs there and then 16hrs back? Have you checked the cost of flying if you book now?

I'm goin in July. oops. Yeah, I have checked the cost of flying. It would cost $452 at cheapest. If my bro and I split the cost of gas it comes to about 150 each, and I LOVE driving places, so the distance is no big deal.

I've always enjoyed Otakon every year that I've been, but I would have to say, it's not the best con I attend in my personal opinion. It's worth it if you're interested in going: A con is always what you make of it.

Give it a chance. Plus I agree -- long drives can really be fun.

Hughes. i wish I had some non-camera phone pics. I look like crap in a lot of these

I love Otakon, this year will be my 9th!

Last year I found otakon to be really cramped, 30k might be too much for the BCC.

I got to the "Who want to be a Pkm Master" panel 30 mins early, waited in line, just to find out that I couldn't go in cause it was full.

But the masquerade is AWESOME and I love the MC <3 and I think being over 18 helped for the late night panels, and the fact that everyone was at a rave or bar. Now that all my friends are 21+, I can take advantage of the awesome bar scene; inner harbor, fed hill, fells point.

Sweet. Drinking is something frat guys do best, so that's good to know. Also, the rave is always my favorite part of any given con, so that's good to know. I may try and whip up another cosplay between now and then too. Here's one I used to do as Light Yagami

Out of all the ones I've been to, I find that Animazement is the best every year.

I'm biased with that opinion though -- I know a lot more people and places to party there.

    Mkay. I've been to:
    Ohayocon
    Kami-con
    Anime-zap (peoria)
    Anime Blues Con
    Collision con
    Acen
    and, Momocon

Acen and Kami-con are my faves thus far.

BAMP. Anyone got any Otakon stories?
    >> Anonymous 05/02/12(Wed)00:12 No.5788597
I'm from the west coast but I think Otakon is like one of the biggest anime cons out on the east coast so probably worth it. I think the 2nd biggest is NYAF/NYCC?
    >> Anonymous 05/02/12(Wed)07:09 No.5789613
    >>5788597
Yeah, by NYCC/AF sucks major ballage now that the cons combined.
Twice the people, half the size. It's nearly impossible to navigate at times because of the shear size of the crowd and lack of crowd control. Last year was...okay, but pretty hard to navigate overall.
    >> Anonymous 05/02/12(Wed)07:41 No.5789645
As a native of Baltimore, I can certainly say that there is very much plenty for see and do during con downtown. I've been going to Otakon for several years now and have never had a dull moment. The crowds have gotten bigger so getting into panels might be tricky but there is always something going on somewhere. Even the water guys outside partake in the fun!

    >I got dat ICE COLD WATER!!!!

    >the legend
I remember people started off annoyed at the guy, then he became a sensation in his own right.
I was walking by him when he sold his last water.
    It was 2:10 pm.
The moment Ice Cold Watah died.

Btw, is the area around the con center sketchy? I've heard Baltimore can be rough.

No, it's actually located in the tourist areas of the City.
