This was me. I'll just say this. The masquerade staff were absolutely unbelievable in this. It was in no way their decision, and they delivered the news practocally in tears. They convinced the actual chair (I believe) to comp all skit memers completely for next year. Now, I'm press and panels, so sucks that it doesn't matter to me, but seriously, it wasn't the responsibility of masquerade; the conert before it ran for two hours longer, and then the fire alarm.

I don't know if this is any consolation to any other skit members, but my boyfriend and I both thought that at least the staff really cared. They probably looked as forward to this as we did.

I'll kind of agree for the Soap Bubble. I've never really cared for that as it's just a typical con rave and attracts typical rave kiddies.

Hardcore Synergy, on the other hand, is a godsend. This is more or less the only opportunity, short of flying to Japan, to see most of these DJs live.

I am by no means a 'cool' kid, but I love me some fucking j-core.

First year at ACen I had a great time, the con did start off a bit rough because of my friends & their unprepared-ness, so there was a bit of waiting in line and confusion, but everything turned out good. That con was so huge, I was in awe the whole time. Met roko & luluko which was cool and I lost my mind in that dealers room, it was so huge!

I think I spent the majority of my time in the dealers room, just looking around, taking pictures & talking to people (though I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I spent too much time at the kpop booth:/). Had a good time though.

I can't be the only one who was irked at the fact that some panels were canceled/rescheduled at like the last minute...and then they were updated only on the app, as if everyone had internet access or a phone that can use apps.

Except they probably spent a good amount on the DJs, and it's equally unfair to bump them too. Bumping the skits was the logical and financially smart choice. While I don't think cosplay should take a back seat to the rave, we probably didn't miss much.

Every table got photos with the models as a group. We also got to talk to them, lots of mingling and they were really awesome, especially RinRin. They also took 2 giant group shots and has a FUCKING RAFFLE where they gave out giant cake purses and full OPs and dresses. I won a little purse and my friends got the OPs and skirts. Like, $200 worth of shit. Then the chigothlolis gave the models a scrapbook we made and the AP staff cried. It was awesome. Then they gave everyone free totes and we went home.

Dood, my husband is one of the DJs.. The Soap Bubble DJs don't get paid at all. They don't get comp'd badges or anything. They get a backstage pass, and that's it. As for Hardcore Synergy, they don't get paid either. Their hotel is comp'd and their flights are comp'd, but otherwise their expenses fall on the company mydjsobad as far as I've been told.

I've heard talk from some of the people within Hardcore Synergy that they are going to seriously cut the budget and there will be way less "imported talent", and local djs will pick up the slots.

As for the masquerade being cut short for SB... yeah that really blows, but it also really blew the night before for the DJs who came all the way around the world to play here only to be cut majorly short. It's not like we weren't also disappointed with Acen's organization and time management, so what can you do? I definitely feel your pain but people constantly blaming problems on the raves really irritates me. It's not like the SB people threw a fit and cut the masquerade, that was someone else's choice.

I hope that this post made sense. :\ I'm super exhausted from this weekend (staying up until 5-6 am and waking up early every day to carry around equipment sucked.)

They were all really cool and friendly, and super fun to party with. MC Stone was easily the coolest guy there though, in my humble opinion. He was just super funny and goofy all weekend and had tons of energy, definitely brought an otherwise shitty weekend to an all time Acen high for me. :P

I run the Hallway Contest and I help run the Masquerade. I'm the assistant department head for the Costume Events department. My DH and I start working in Decemeber to pull off the ACen Masquerade. I worked for three months on the half time show, which was a tie in with the Panty and Stocking promotion.

We were starting late because the event before the concert was an hour late and the event after was even later. Instead of 7 songs, they performed 18. We were 60 seconds away from started when that fuck face triggered the fire alarm. The reason the Masquerade ended up taking so long to start the second time was because Jon and I were doing everything we could to keep it in one piece. Originally we were told that we could take all the time we needed, but then we were told the higher ups said we had to cut things. Our only choice was to cut skits and the half time show. Jon said he'd take the bullet, but I told him no, that we were in it together and grabbed his hand as we headed for the stage. Crying in front of 3000 people wasn't exactly the highlight of my convention. After we told the audience, we then had to go tell out performers we wasted 4 hours of their time, however long it took them to make their costumes and come up with/practice their skits. After I lost it, my DH lost it. We are both insanely passionate about the Masquerade and put a lot of love into it. It destroyed us just as much as the performers to have to see it cut.

We are so deeply sorry to everyone who didn't get to perform and for the ones who won awards and did not get to accept them on stage. I really wish that it had been more in our hands, but there was nothing we could do about it. They want to get it done sooner than later.

Since no one else is posting any, here's my first attempt at cosplay back on Friday. Only about 5 people recognized me or knew who it was, but having someone shout "NICHI-BRO!" at me from a moving van made my weekend. It was also my first ACEN (and con), but I had a blast and already plan on going back next year.
