  • Attention 4chan extension/user script/archive developers: Some time in the next few days, we'll be rolling out a complete HTML rewrite of the imageboards.
The design will remain the same, but the underlying HTML/CSS is completely new, and validates HTML5/CSS3 (with some tweaks to account for cross-browser compatibility).

Please visit this thread to read more about the changes, and here to preview the code.

As a regular user, these changes should not affect you. You will need to update your 4chan browser extensions/user scripts when their maintainer updates them to be compatible with the changes.
The official 4chan Chrome extension will be ready to go when the updates happen, and 4chan X should be ready soon. We'll post more details on the day of the migration!

It's been a while since we had one of these so here it is, your chance to talk all things coscom!

As a side note, I noticed the new "alert" message stating that they started testing layouts etc. on the site. This should be amusing. So Kyle is totally for making the place look prettier but won't bother fixing the huge-ass list of bugs. Seems about right. Any predictions on how it will look when completed?

    /Off topic.

Omg the hotel bit there, literally JUST went over that with a friend. She claimed the room was over $400 and wanted the money immediately before she booked with her BOYFRIEND'S card.

I got fed up with the bull and booked it myself. Room was $329 with tax. What the hell? Then she pulled the biggest hissy fit and decided to get her own room (with her boyfriend's card) because there would be "too many people."

Six people. All of us have known each other for over YEARS.

Ran the pic of her wig and the character through a Deuteranope colorblindness filter.

This is the textbook example of cosplaying something only to get attention. Homestuck is pretty much hated outside its own fandom but it's big enough that attention whores like Spaz will cosplay it just to have the most people possible give her attention.

Probably worse. I've stopped updating my things there. Got tired of having to resize every single photo and having an exactly 100x100 icon/preview picture. Now that the marketplace is down and they're still claiming "It'll be up in a few weeks" when that was said nearly a month ago, there's no reason to even bother going there.

Despite Admin saying they were testing shit out etc, I never saw any changes to the shit layout through any of the tests he said they did. I think you perhaps have wisely blocked things out. Can't blame you there.

    >>5773376
Despite having to deal with some retarded people, the marketplace was pretty useful. I sold a lot of things I didn't use anymore. I don't get why they had to even take it down other than stupid people ruining shit again. In the rules it said they were only providing space as is - people were responsible for the actual transaction. If they found people scamming/abusing, they could you know... just deactivate their accounts instead of taking the entire marketplace down, stupidly heavy handed action in my opinion. By that logic, if you had an ant problem in the spring, instead of getting traps and insect poison, you'd burn down your entire house to take care of the problem.
    >> Anonymous 04/28/12(Sat)11:34 No.5774147
    >>5774116
Pretty much this. People scamming and not paying for stuff is going to happen on any website that lets people exchange goods. Whining to the staff about it won't do shit, especially when there was a feedback system and even a review thread of the forum to make sure you had a better chance at not getting scammed.
    >> Anonymous 04/28/12(Sat)11:42 No.5774165
    >>5774147
That and I wonder how many people paid by an unverified method like Western Union, cash, etc.

When dealing with shit online I always use Paypal so it's documented etc. As much as I dislike the company, it is useful and widely accepted, plus they've backed me on several occasions where I did get scammed.

The other thing is, if you're a seller, why the hell wouldn't you use tracking and send that number to the buyer immediately, it proves that the items left your house. On the flip side, if you're a buyer, why wouldn't you demand tracking? It's 80 cents if you're mailing via USPS. Then you know for sure it has shipped.

Then again, I have to remind myself, I am an adult and most people complaining and getting scammed are probably teens who don't know any better.
    >> Anonymous 04/28/12(Sat)22:32 No.5776368

Didn't know how much tracking was. My USPS guy always asks me if I want delivery confirmation instead so I get that.

I'm sort of in a sucky area right now. No bank account and since I don't drive, my ID has been expired for awhile so I can't really do the money order/check thing so most of the time if it's a low amount I ask for concealed cash. That's why the marketplace being down is screwing me over because of my payment methods I rely HEAVILY on my mass of positive feedback and now I can't access it.

    >>5777140
Ah, sorry, I mean tracking as in "delivery confirmation" which yes, is only 80 cents. It may not update at every single stop along the way but both you and the buyer can see that the package has been shipped and made it to certain points. At least through paypal, if you upload a tracking number to the transaction it proves to them that you didn't just take someone's money and not ship anything.

I wonder if they will restore the marketplace fully with everyone's stats intact. Maybe I'm expecting a bit too much from a site that pretty much refuses to even look at the bugs thread that's been growing for years.

Why is it that every time a Coscom thread comes up, Axelai is the main source of bitching? Is there anything new we could talk about instead, otherwise it defeats the purpose of having a new Coscom thread.

Probably because hardly any of us spend enough time on Coscom to complain about any of the new people.

Personally my rage is directed at the shit going on with them working on the site itself. Not to mention still using that half-assed "Our wig model just woke up so here's them in their pajamas modeling all our new wigs" theme as their official wig shop banners. Between that and the nightmare fuel wig head they have, I'm surprised if anyone buys from them anymore.

    >> Anonymous 04/30/12(Mon)16:42 No.5782292
Not same anon as >>5781492 but here's my take on the brigade.

The brigade consisted primarily of the following people but other random forum posters looking to feel cool would join in as needed. While I would consider them annoying and stupid at best, they seem to have enraged many people because of they acted like drones and mindlessly backed anything another brigade member said regardless of how stupid, illogical, morally/ethically wrong, etc. it was. Basically the brigade indulged in the beliefs that "cosplaying is only about having fun so don't worry how shitty/terribad you look! You don't need a wig, makeup, costume, or footwear that looks like your characters (wear those dirty sneakers proudly!) If you dream it, you are cosplaying it already. People saying that you could get better reception for putting more work into cosplay are all elitist assholes who don't know how to have fun."

Aside from the collective derp behavior they each brought a unique flavor to the team:

Axelai: Well, I think everyone knows what this girl, er scuse' me now it's a non-gendered or male person" until the next flavor of the week surfaces, is about.

x-Steffi-x: Has some good opinions on her own but is very outspoken and generally butthurt. Anything that she can twist to be an insult about her weight and appearance will be twisted, and she will post many times about it.

SpazItUp: embodiment of a raging bitchfest. Also known for butting into any conversation and making her opinion sound like truth, the alpha and omega, etc.

Spazmodic: known for shitty gender bends, attention whoring, and mindlessly backing any of the brigaders

Shana05: known for stirring up shitstorms to gain sympathy and rally brigade droning/ collective asspattery. Reference the following for further reading: "Shana goes to Denny's in lolita and wonders why people stare" or "Shana feels her people are discriminated against for cosplaying at the mall with no intent to shop and getting kicked out".

The Sunshine Brigade in /cgl/ terms would probably be compared to the tripfag circlejerks. The Brigaders dominate the General Chat section of the forum and basically post about shit that no one cares about and take turns boosting each others egos to the point where the lot of them have their heads wedged firmly up each others arses.

They're generally just overall annoying and will show up in pairs or groups to defend anyone receiving criticism, even if the person receiving it doesn't want to be defended. Spazitup is usually the ringleader of these incidents and will continue to try and force her opinion on others until the point that no one is backing her up any longer.

Actually used to have screencaps of an incident where one of them (Spazitup I think) who flew off the handle at a comment taken out of context and wouldn't listen to anyone who tried to correct her and when she realized no one was on her side she tried to rope in a friend of hers who promptly told her "Hell no, you're on your own."

But yes, we all remember the dramu revolving them and that generated a lot of worthy lulz.

Nah, I too think they've cooled off a bit since losing their grorious ringleader of retardedness, Axelai. The circlejerk still exists but is much less pronounced. That said SpazItUp's buttmad raging bitchfest-ness will never die down. I think she is the stereotypical angry feminazi type. Spazmodic just seemed too stupid to actually form opinions on her own and would go with whatever people said. If it was impossible for her to back a brigader or somehow reference it back to her bad genderbends and showing off her cheerleader body, she didn't say much at all.

I think the term I would use for the brigade besides anon's word "drones" would be "bandwagon-ers". These are the types of fools I'd expect to, figuratively speaking, rally with pitchforks and torches outside someone's home because that person made the mistake of implying one of them was not kawaii enough etc.

Okay I'm all for coscom bashing (and this one seems like a special snowflake with the "I wear wigs out in public" shit) but aside from that I can't say I blame her. Do you like your plans being changed suddenly? The girl thought she was slated for one thing, and now her mom wants her to go abroad for a job...it's not exactly like her mom telling her to get a job in town. I can see why you think she's being silly or immature, but I honestly can see where she's coming from at the same time. Don't we have better things to bitch about?

How about that obnoxious girl posting all her ads and bumping them like 5x a day in the marketplace? I want her ass banned so much. She is too annoying for words. I think it's dying out a bit, but a week ago it was crazy. I love how they let people abuse the rules rampantly even though this is supposed to be easier for them to monitor and delete things as needed.

Speaking of their wig shop, I am on the fence about which was worse for modeling the wigs: Jia who looked like she'd been woken up and told to try on wigs that moment or their creepy manikin.

I also wonder how many other things will break during this transition. The last time they did anything was to switch servers I believe, much of the site and forum functionality got busted up too. I'm predicting more shit will break but Admin will say "LOOK AT THE PRETTY SITE LAYOUT - THERE ARE NO BUSTED-ASS FEATURESSSS" and brush the pieces under the rug.

I bought a scruffy wig when they first opened, and it was a nice wig. A year later i bought another scruffy, different fibers and you could see the inside of the wig. Another time i ordered a Punk XL, 3 days later, AFTER they took my money, they sent me an email saying "Your color choice was out of stock, chose another color"(word for word). I replied "i needed it in that color, may i have a refund?" and it took them a month before i finally heard back from them, they told me they were waiting for my color to be in stock... bitch i just wanted my money back.

Don't feel too badly, back in 07' our wig choices were very limited anyway and you basically got to choose from different grades of Kanekalon. For many people there was coscom and conveniently a wig place so I think many people, myself included, bought into it thinking you'd receive something nice since hell, they're cosplayers running the store, they would treat you right, right? Oh so wrong.

These days there's a lot more to choose from and dem hiperlon heat-resistant fibers are fucking delicious. I am quite smitten with Fantasy Sheep wigs.

Coscom's main US competition would be from Arda but even their wigs do nothing for me. They are like they are the new "Cosworx" store now where noobs flock and buy without questioning or comparing quality. People pretty much bash you if you say you don't like the wigs no matter your reason. I don't like them because the wig caps are massive and sure, there are tutorials on resizing them by hacking and resewing them, but I don't want to have to do that if I already have to build a crazy style too. Add to that, some of their wigs are thin, like your photo. My Jareth wig was fucking terrible. Right out of the bag I could see all the mesh on the top of the wig.

Or, you know, give it time then sit your parents down and talk to them like an adult and give specific points as to why cosplay can be a good thing and provide examples as to past things you have done that was dealt with in a good, mature manner. Actin rebellious will just make you look foolish and childish, hence giving your parents more reason as to why you're not capable of handling tough situations. Just because teenagers often become "rebellious" following their way of life isn't mature, it'd be a phase at the most. Seriously, these newbies are becoming far worse than the SB.

My thoughts exactly. That post just fully backed up all the research: teenagers have not fully developed the part of the brain that allows them to look at consequences beyond the initial euphoria of getting your way.

Fact is, from the OP, the mother sounds like your average protective, conservative mom who's probably like "Animus are dangerous and so is cosplay" based on media hype. The last thing a parent like that wants is to send her child off to a con with thousands of strangers in funky costumes that cost money they shouldn't be spending. Furthermore, the kid running away would probably unleash otherworldly fury and overreaction.

Case and point, around here where I live, there have been a few incidents where teens went missing. The families did the initial "wait till it's legal to file a report" and then reported them missing. Come to find out, the kids usually were at friend's houses. Instead of just saying, "Listen, I need a break so I'll be over [here] for a while until I'm ready to talk" or sitting down and trying to have a sincere conversation with parents, yea, running away and making them think the worst is TOTALLY the best idea. Especially with over-protective parents. I believe some of the families ended up having to pay back the search and rescue teams.

There are good reasons for running and escaping like if you're in a truly dangerous situation like abuse of any sort or are just not in a safe living situation etc. but telling someone to run away because of cosplay? Unbelievably stupid, but what can I say other than "1st world middle/upper class problems".

did anyone figure out what her medical problem was re: why she can't get dressed without breaking a sweat? i always wonder when someone has a problem like this why they wouldn't be fed up pretty quickly and go seek some help.

I call bullshit. Why does this person have to make excuses for a HOBBY? I mean seriously, how does this person cope with ordinary clothing for everyday life? Just stroll naked in people, you know, like you do...
A cosplay doesn't have to have multiple layers either. Just ridiculous made-up excuses, I bet he/she wasn't even going to cosplay a difficult character. I mean making a cosplay isn't all that difficult and if you can't make one, buy one or commission it. I'm just trying to get my head round as to why this person won't wear a full cosplay? If you liked the hobby that much and joined a COSPLAY WEBSITE, then surely you'd have an interest in it? Idk this person is just totally fucked up. I've had cosplays that were difficult to get in, but they didn't take me more than 15 minutes to get on and didn't break a sweat. If this "Purfect" thinks just getting changed into a cosplay is hard, wait until you physically go to a convention where you are walking every hour and posing and shit.

This girl annoys the shit out of me. Her entire photo album on Coscom was nothing but her with wigs on and normal clothes. Clothes that didn't even fit the character she was cosplaying.

I don't know, kids like her want to make excuses for everything but want attention slathered on them as well. My guess was she was there for the social aspect as well as asspats and attention whoring. IIRC she used to post in the "woe is me, i'm a fat cosplayer and people are so mean. others discriminate against my people! RACISTS" kinds of threads. Not saying people aren't mean/discriminatory to overweight people but there is a way to fix it, and it isn't sitting on the internet and posting in threads for support and doing nothing else.

Most of her gallery had horrible, dark, grainy webcam/myspace shit pics. Her main thing was "cosplaying" as Alois and Ciel from Kuroshits. To be fair, when I do test shots to see how things photograph, how my wigs look/makeup tests etc., I don't get into full costume but I change into the costume as much as the camera will show. So there's really no reason in her case that she can't throw on the appropriate shirt, neck bow thing, and Alois' purple jacket since her photos are always shoulders up and no one would know if she weren't in full costume anyway. However, I have my doubts she even HAS purhased any of the costumes she supposedly wears. Her gallery only has wig/head shots. Her "Alois" costume gallery was pretty much her + generic unstyled blond wig + sticking tongue out... every fucking shot. Her Ciel was much the same: dark wig + grump look on face.

I wonder if she even goes to conventions or if she just has wigs and derps around for photos in her room. Has anyone seen any con photos of her either on FB or coscom? Obv. we can't check coscom, but I thought some seagulls were her FB friends.

Woah, now I'm surprised at this picture. Much better than those grainy webcam pics. Shame she doesn't know how to apply make-up (or properly at that).

We tried giving her very simple makeup tips and help before. Much like many wayward coscomers who could step up their game with a little bit of foundation and eyeliner, she had many excuses as to why she couldn't ever get the makeup, or apply it, or whatever. Some people sincerely tried, but it's easier to play the victim and make excuses.

Well, just another few hours until Coscom is supposedly going back online. Cross your fingers!

More news, a few more hours before they open the forums, then the rest of the site will follow.

Update May 7: We will be reopening the forums late tonight (very late), and apologize for the delay. The rest of the site will follow, coming online bit by bit over the next 48 hours. The layout transformation is pretty much complete, however we're going through and making sure each section of the website is completely cleaned up and ready for launch.

Please note that for now, the forums section layout will be mostly unchanged, so it is not an indicator of the remainder of the site. You can view a few screenshots of our new layout on our Facebook page (CosplayComOfficial).

...okay, now I'm not even going to hold my breath for them getting everything up in 48 hours.
