I was at FanEx as Wiccan from Young Avengers a few years back, and everyone kept thinking I was Vincent from FF7.
At one point, I was mocked for not having his gold claw and gun.

Another time, I was The Riddler, and on several occasions had people address me as the Joker.

My very first year cosplaying was when Gravitation was all the rage so I went as Mr.K in khaki pants, a dress shirt, and a tie with sunglasses on. Soon as I got up to the convention hotel some girl from across the parking lot is yelling "Ed! Ed Elric!" at me and waving her arms.

Still not really sure why she thought I was Ed and the friends I was with at the time (none of them cosplaying) couldn't figure it out either.

It was very expected, but I got told I was a Pikachu when I was a Makuhita (gijinka). Actually TOLD. I tried correcting them but they just weren't having it.

I found it funny because of pic related. Even thought the shows are completely separate, it's a common headcanon that the girls are actually sisters.

I actually mistook a character.

I was actually at my first con and saw a Panty. I never heard of the series and being the big Harvest Moon nerd kept desperately hoping it was an inaccurate Muffy (one of my favorite characters.)

I never actually spoke to the cosplayer (so I didn't embarrass myself. I was overwhelmed by the huge con) But I kept staring hoping it was a Muffy.

Soon I learned that what Panty and Stocking were and that I will never be able to cosplay Muffy now.

Oh it was this year. That's odd, I was Mio for Friday and Saturday, and Anya Alstreim on Sunday. Yeah, I think that's what happened, on Sunday people kept saying "Oh you were the school girl yesterday, right?". It surprised me since I don't think of that uniform being "generic school girl" but I suppose it was taken that way.

Hmm...it seemed smaller then it was last year. I was ill throughout the con and didn't have a very good time, so perhaps i'm the only one who found it shitty.

Didn't happen to me, but a friend. She was wearing casual clothes- A beige sweater and red pants- and some guy came up and said "hey, are you so-and-so from [game title]?" I forgot what character he thought she was (i think it was from a scary game), but i thought it was kind of funny.

This one time I saw a really great Kusuriuri . I figured I'd express my awe somehow, so I just called out something like "Hello, Medicine Seller, right?" and did a casual gesture towards him. He gave me a light nod to show that I was indeed correct and that I had his attention. At this point I noticed he was probably a she, and that I had no idea what to say next. Well, I'll just compliment her like I intended to. "Great costume, it looks awesome!" So far so good. She gave a light smile of appreciation, and then a brief look of confusion. I had instinctively reached out my fist for a bump because somehow, that seemed like an appropriate course of action. After social protocol forced her to reciprocate the bump, I gave her a light nod bidding her adieu. I mean, it didn't drag out or anything, it was just the greeting, compliment, bump, nod. But I just couldn't help feel awkward for forever because of that goddamned bump. What kind of person offers their clenched hand for a bump to someone cosplaying the Kusuriuri? Actually, who the fuck does it for a stranger, nay, anyone who they aren't one hundred percent bro with? A retard, that's who.

Still, it was a really great costume.

Told this story before in a weeaboo thread, but I was going to a tea party in gothic lolita and got glomped by this girl who thought I was Misa. I ended up needing stitches underneath my chin.
