  • Attention 4chan extension/user script/archive developers: Some time in the next few days, we'll be rolling out a complete HTML rewrite of the imageboards.
The design will remain the same, but the underlying HTML/CSS is completely new, and validates HTML5/CSS3 (with some tweaks to account for cross-browser compatibility).

Please visit this thread to read more about the changes, and here to preview the code.

As a regular user, these changes should not affect you. You will need to update your 4chan browser extensions/user scripts when their maintainer updates them to be compatible with the changes.
The official 4chan Chrome extension will be ready to go when the updates happen, and 4chan X should be ready soon. We'll post more details on the day of the migration!

40 hours of work, destroyed on her.

Plus it isn't that Dolorosa--she wasn't even at AB (of if she was, not as the Dolorosa).

I have to admit here and now that this is only my second Anime Boston, the first being way back in 2009. Yes, this was one of my favorite cons so far out of the several that I've attended in the past 4 years. But two things worried me.
First, as Dolorosa, I was met with severe animosity by other congoers who seemed to forget the "Pop Culture" piece of the convention. They had no problem when I was Mag, but I was verbally and physically harassed occasionally while donning my Homestuck cosplay. As it is, I need to make repairs to my armorpiece, belt, a layer of my dress, and both my horns before I can even think about cosplaying the costume I put 65 hours into making again.

Because putting together conventions is expensive, and so far western conventions are slow to crop up. Regardless of someone's feelings on the matter, for at least the past six years I've been going to anime conventions there have been a good amount of people cosplaying from western properties, simply because there are less conventions catered to that crowd that are affordable, close-by, and don't sell out within a few hours.

Although I think people getting analfrustrated over homestuck and other western cosplays in anime conventions are silly. I go to Dragon*Con and you bet your ass there are a good number of anime cosplayers. To complain about it is kind of silly, you're all there for the same reasons; to dress up as fictional characters and enjoy the panels or meet and make friends.

Not exclusively, I'd say the main focus is to network with other fans, which you can still do with other fandoms there. Being near homostucks doesn't stop you and other anime fans from being anime fans, unless you're too aspie to handle other people liking what you don't like, in which case, see my above solution.

I said expensive because I'm assuming you mean an actual convention for more than just MSPA since that person mentioned "other fandoms".

The creator says he doesn't want a MSPAcon, and while there would certainly be people who would ignore his wishes, it's hardly enough to put together enough money for a convention. At best, we'd get a bunch of little meetups, which is what we're already doing so it's kind of a moot point.

    >>5764089
    >but I can say homestucks would have more fun at their own convention

That's dumb. Homestucks go to already established conventions because, believe it or not, they have interests besides Homestuck. They enjoy anime and manga and comics and video games and all sorts of other things that are present in the conventions they go to.

And if the MSPA team isn't involved, there really isn't anyone with enough fandom authority to ringlead something as big as a Homestuck con would end up being. Most of the biggest name fans are friends with someone on the team, so it's not like they'd go against it either.

I honestly can't believe how many people there are that cry about western themed cosplay at anime cons in the west. For a lot of us, the cartoons on TV, the comics both online and in hand are a lot more fun to cosplay than the latest highschool anime. We're not exactly in an anime renaissance right now, and it's less enjoyable to cosplay from a series that no one has seen yet as opposed to a cartoon that has a ton of fans that come up to you and talk about it.

There have been people doing non-anime cosplays at cons since basically forever. And it's not like Homestuck people are there specifically to cosplay as Homestuck and do nothing else; 99% of them are also into anime and are going there for that reason. So please, stop bitching and moaning about it and just ignore it if it really bothers you that much

    1. I don't believe this happened for an instant. Y'all are the sort of fags who believe everything that's posted in weeaboo horror story threads too, aren't you?

    2. I've had TWO costumes ruined by Homestuck faggots who didn't seal their bodypaint, rushed up to hug me, left huge, nasty stains on my costume, and ran off without so much as a "lol my b". Not saying she's someone who has done that, but now HSfags can understand how it feels on the extremely slim chance this actually did happen.

At least at the big con near me, which is a general pop culture con, the Homestickers find their spot and stick to it, so they don't bother anyone. All their cosplays are of pretty decent quality, too.

The pony cosplayers are lazy, always look like shit, and will not stop fucking screaming about Rainbow Dash even in places where ponies have no place (like anime trivia).

I get that brand is retardedly expensive, but honestly you can't even compare something like that. I don't have anything against lolita or buying pre-made dresses/costumes, but there is an enormous difference between having something you made destroyed and having something you bought destroyed.

Because at the same time, in the same town, as AB, there was a larger convention happening that is based around an -gasp- American webcomic. Why did they choose the anime con?

yes, there were people sitting there and whining butts off about the "homosuck invasion" and i did witness a group of adult attendees verbally harrassing some homestuck cosplayers on saturday night, but the fact that there were literally so many homestucks around kind of provided protection - there's safety in numbers, you know? also, security was within 20 feet - if it escalated, they would have intervened.

There is literally no excuse for DW people "cosplaying" (It's really just buying an outfit with little actual construction.) at anime cons when there is a huge amount of cons for that genre. I've been around since before narutards happened, and they were embarrassments. However, Homestuck kids are worse. They wear body paint that they don't know how to use, spit in buckets, complain about any insults made about Homestuck (NeoClassicNeko, anyone?), are often yaoi fangirls who hate on other yaoi fangirls, and they attack anything they see as an unauthorized reference to Homestuck (aka, getting angry at Gaia Online for making Astrology sign accessories).

Narutards were stupid, but the worst I've seen from them is bad cosplay and inappropriate yaoi paddling. Never had to worry about seeing spit in a bucket...

I've been cosplaying for over a decade,
About 5 years ago I stopped cosplaying from animus but I still go to anime cons since they have the biggest cosplay scene.
This year I read Homestuck and I liked it.

I honestly, cannot believe someone would do this. Before I read it, I talked a LOT of trash about HS and its fanbase, but holy shit, this is really, really crossing the line.

If you don't like Homestuck, what the fuck ever man. I don't like 99% of anime but that doesn't mean I attack and destroy the costumes of anime cosplayers at Comicons.

Actually, it's really frustrating because I know I have gotten shit at anime cons for being from Western games/comics/scifi but I have NEVER, not ever, even heard of an anime cosplayer being harassed at a comic or gaming convention.

You people are seriously the scum of the earth. Christ, if I didn't have so much fun meeting awesome people at cons, I would avoid anime conventions alltogether because of people like that.

That's the only one truly like it, and once it's gone, you can't just save up money to buy another one. So, to me at least, that does make hand sewn costumes are a bit more ~speshul~ . I hate to sound so cliché, but it's hard to understand until you've actually spent weeks bent over a sewing machine putting something together.

Though, to be fair, I can see how someone would argue that working to save money for a long time can be similar.

People who care about it at Comicons are in the extreme minority. Animu fans have been getting pissed off about this for years.
In 2001 I was told, to my face, and I quote "What are you doing here, this isn't a fucking Star Trek convention." I was 12 and dressed as Spock.

Who gets that buttflustered about weeaboos at D*con? Almost no one.

That's what I mean. The guy was saying "no one wants to see that shit at western cons" and I was saying that's not true. We don't give two shits.

Especially at places like Dragon*con where there's a track/contest devoted to it.

Yeah, I know. I was actually at D*C last year and went to one or two of the anime panels and had a good time. Also saw Boner Robin, good times.

That said, I'm being sarcastic and making a point that nobody at Western conventions really gives a shit about anime being there. Likewise, only a very vocal minority in the anime community actually cares about Homestuck, or any other Western fandom, for that matter. Conventions are nerd havens, period.

They didn't say all. They said you Homestucks. As a whole, it's a pretty terrible fandom. Just like Hetalia was a horrible fandom before it.

It just seems like the more the bandwagon hops, the worse the fandom behaves. At this rate we're going to have stabbings over things two or three hops down the road.

I agree, actually. Even though I have a closet full of animu costumes, I made a couple new vidya related ones for PAX. Because it just seemed like the right thing to do.

However, to be fair, a lot of anime has video games based off it and vice-versa. Sengoku Basara, Inazuma Eleven, Final Fantasy and Sonic all have anime counterparts, and visual novels are technically video games. Not to mention that any popular boy's anime will probably end up with a fighting game eventually. So, it can get rather fuzzy there.

    >> Anonymous 04/26/12(Thu)00:18 No.5765621
I don't particularly like Homestuck, but these faggots aren't even the biggest problem at cons. My only dislike of them comes from stories of them ruining shit at cons (ruining cosplays with their body paint, crashing panels, etc.). I also don't like how much space they're taking up at cons. I'm going to Acen this year, and Homestuck not only has a panel, but 2 and a half hours worth of photoshoots. The next biggest ones have one hour.

Can we get rid of the faggots that come to cons and don't even like anything relevant to the con? People who just come to cons to take drugs, get drunk, and act like assholes? After we got rid of them, I'd definitely be ok with getting rid of "bad" fandoms.

I believe that you can cosplay whatever the fuck you want at any convention. I see tons of western, movie, and comic book costumes at anime cons all the time. More variety is good, imo!

Restricting genres would make every con that much smaller, or have that many less cosplayers. Consdiering I go to cons just to cosplay and to see cosplays, that would make me very sad.

This has to be a troll. I don't believe this at all. I was there and there were tons of hamsteaks everywhere. They outnumbered us it seemed and most normal people avoided them like the plague and didn't want even be near them. Me and my friends didnt even want to see them or get too close. I dont think anyone would want to get too close to those fantards anyway to try to even damage their costume or harass them. Why bother wasting your time and risk your badge on scum like homestucks.

I eagerly wait for the day some fucktard Homestuck cosplayer commits a crime or does something severe or violent that would involve police at an anime con. That will be the day. Cuz once that happens the fandom will finally die out and maybe the idiots who run these cons will get the hint and ban Homestuck cosplay from their cons. Then our precious con will be less atrocious. It only takes one crazy incident to end a cult.

I can't believe you nerds are arguing over this.

YOU ALL DRESS UP AS CARTOON CHARACTERS.

Who cares if it's anime or not anime.
Either way you're dressing up as cartoon characters and you have no right to judge one another because you're all equally as weird.

Anyway, I'm not from this board, I'm just passing through and thought I'd point that out.

Yeah, that's not how it would work. At all. Mainstream media would lump just about everyone at the con together as a bunch of sex-crazed amoral retards, homestuck or not.

Besides, it's not like we went through the exact same thing with Hetalia and Naruto.

The narutards were understandable because they were like, 13-15 years old. They kind of blended in with the crowd, they never bothered me even though I didn't even like naruto. I don't know, I never really paid attention to them at cons.

The KH OrgXIII people sometimes put up stupid yaoi sceneries in front of people, I saw enough Axls pinning Roxases down on the floor while fangirls screamed all around. They were facepalm-worthy and we laughed at their stupidity. I didn't like KH either, but it never bothered me more than on the rolling-my-eyes level.

The Hetalia fans were very obnoxious because they often confused the Hetalia canon for real life politics and did some pretty insensitive shit (nazi swastika flags and armbands). But Hetalia was still GOOD, a great series that got ruined by a shitty fandom. (At least the original manga, I never watched the anime)

Homestuck.. is just shit to begin with. I read it before I even had an opinion on it. The series is shit. I mean I didn't like naruto or KH but I understood that they're not technically bad. But Homestuck is just shit. The creator is a stuck up dickhead. The art is terrible. The plot is messy. The humor is just pretentious, it's trying to be funny and clever but ends up being just your run-of-the-mill LOLSORANDUMXD crap. And most of the fans are ADULT FEMALES which makes it even more fucked up, 21-year olds acting like 15-year olds. Either they're terribly retarded or they're arrogant like this bitch here >>5763983

Bronies creep me the fuck out but at least FiM is relatively blosse and harmless(I don't like it though). Adventure time doesn't bother me because they're chill and act their age.

Fuck, this. Almost every con has its share of the wannabe alfas who actually go out saying "yeah I don't care about dat nerd shit I just want to get drunk and fuck chicks". Last time the room next to mine at the hotel had some barely legal frat boys who got drunk as fuck and shouted overused /b/ memes at 2 AM banging doors and shit. Also the chicks who don't give a shit about anime/whatever and just pick the sluttiest, most popular cosplay (or slutify a pokemon cuz pokaman r so ttly funny XD LOL) and whore their drunk ass to everyone desperate enough to fuck them. THEY are the real scum of any convention.

However I still can't stand how Homestuck fans actually feel as if an ANIME convention should somehow fulfill their needs. As in accept Homestuck panels/lectures or allow them in the costume contest. I've heard a lot of whining from HStards about this.

I'd be pissed off too if Naruto cosplayers appeared at a ren fair. If some event had people dressing up, it doesn't mean you should show up as just anything just because they're wearing costumes.

I honestly do not care seeing Homosucks and MLPs at anime conventions as long as they realize that it really is an ANIME convention. What I dislike is that when someone cosplays from something not anime everyone will say something like "FINALLY someone dares to be unique and not just cosplay this weeaboo shit!". Same goes for lolis who go to anime events to attention whore and then they get butthurt when someone asks for their photo and what character they're cosplaying as. Face it, your dresses do look like costumes for those who are not familiar with lolita.

I once saw a shop selling a Bleach cosplay at my local RenFaire. It was just sort of thrown on the floor to the side in a bag that looked like what Party City Halloween costumes are kept in, with Ichigo on it.

For this general thread- I've noticed some former anime conventions are now changing their descriptions in a way that includes not only anime, but video games, comics, cartoons, etc etc. I don't mind people cosplaying non-anime things at anime cons personally. It's always really cool to see that one cosplayer from your favorite TV series as a kid or whatever.

Most Western Cosplay I can tolerate. Espeacially Doctor Who and MLP because 9 times out of 10 they just blend in with all of the other shit that's going on. Comics and Sci Fi are great because they usually have better costumes than the Anime/Manga crowd. But you can always tell it's Homestuck because of the ugly masses of Grey. Always. All of the designs just look like Vomit and they are absolutely EVERYWHERE. I thought Naruto and Vocaloid had some bad, overdone, outfits but these fuckers take the cake. It's the go-to costume for someone who just wants attention without any effort and it's so grey, bland, halfassed, and just EVERYWHERE. I can't wait for the Summer Con season to start because I just know those fuckers will get paint on everything they touch which will make sharing a crowded elevator with them in costume just the best thing ever.
