I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not, I can't say I know what popular opinions in general are, but this hat is so ugly. I fucking hate that stupid fake clock. It looks so cheap and like something a bad steampunk cosplayer would wear.

I would find this more aestheticly pleasing if the clock was not so floppy looking. They could had made the felt stand flat instead of smoothed over the curve. It looks like it was stuffed in a box for a while before they immediately took it out and snapped a pic. Maybe a thick embroidered edge would improve it? Like a patch.

I don't have the confidence to wear my dresses out in public (outside of themed parties, special events, halloween, cons, etc. and even then, those instances are rare) so I'm pretty much more of a collector. I enjoy just owning the dresses even if I don't wear them.

"Country" is not a fucking substyle and it chaps my ass that it's 2012 and it's still getting referenced. It's just a variation on sweet, nothing more. It was a one-season trend by brand to include straw stuff in their lines that the Lolita handbook immortalized for some reason. Ever notice how the only pictures of "Country Lolita" are used over and over again, like that Mary Magdalene scan with the basket purse?
    >> Anonymous 04/24/12(Tue)07:01 No.5757873
I hate country Lolita. I overheard some crazy chick at a con state, in an informative manner to a newbie, that Country is the only style in which it is acceptable to have bare shoulders.

I actually like Wa lolita. It can look good, and the reason it has a bad rep is because a lot of Ita fuckers jump on the Wa loli bandwagon.

Also, something I've noticed. All the girls who I know online who are lolita sound like they will look amazing, wether that be because I perceive them to have vast knowledge or because they are just really nice. But then I see photos and I'm like...oh, well that's boring.

This. Although I get the converse: "So what if you can't fit in brand? just be happy you have HUGE boobs!"

On the same note, I honestly only think sweet, gothic, classic, and maybe punk are the only real substyles. The rest are just themes. Things like EGA or dandy are siblings to Lolita, not "substyles". I feel the real styles are the ones that have entire brands dedicated to them.
    >> Anonymous 04/24/12(Tue)13:13 No.5758573

I was with you until "I feel the real styles are the ones that have entire brands dedicated to them."
It's not that kodona and EGA don't have brands, it's that they aren't lolita. The silhouette is one of the most important parts so without it, there's no lolita.

I can't stand when people say kodona and EGA are lolita. They are inspired by the same period, and match well with some lolita outfits, but they are not lolita. In the latest secrets, with that chick who was wearing some offbrand floor-length Baby style skirt, I hated how some people were like, "Well EGA has floor-length skirts so it's lolita!". Ffffff. No, not at all.

I agree that the mark of a real style is a brand dedicating itself to the aesthetic.
I mean even Punk has stuff like Algonquins and Putumayo. There's no real Country or Wa brand, and I don't think there ever will be.

As for EGA, Ouji, Dandy, Kodona, etc, to me they just seem like sidekick styles. Like "Friends of Lolita".

I hate wa. Especially when some derpy kid decides to wear a Wa-Lolita inspired outfit to work in a maid café.
Yes, that tiny apron looks so practical. Especially paired with those furisode sleeves.
    >> Anonymous 04/24/12(Tue)17:36 No.5759745

I worded that poorly, the part about EGA and dandy should have been a completely different statement. Let's rephrase and add:

On the same note, I honestly only think sweet, gothic, classic, and maybe punk are the only real substyles. The rest are just themes. I feel the real styles are the ones that have entire brands dedicated to them.

Things like EGA or dandy are siblings to Lolita, not "substyles". Things like guro and wa are "themes".

Actually...I can see where you're going with that. 99% of pirate coords would fit into classic or gothic, 99% of country coords would fit into sweet or classic, dolly and mori lolita just look like OTT classic...

I think that the girls who make coords on polyvore here are a million years better than the people who make coordinates for lolita shops and magazines.
    >> Anonymous 04/24/12(Tue)18:31 No.5760085
    >>5760048
The catalogue coords are done with almost exclusively catalogue items. People on /cgl/ are going to have more creative coords by default, just because they have a whole wide world of brands, offbrand, designer and high street open to them for experimentation.

You're not going to see an Innocent World catalogue coord Antique Book in burgundy with a vintage cloche hat, lace tights and John Fluevog Baroque boots. It's just the nature of advertising.
    >> Anonymous 04/24/12(Tue)18:36 No.5760112
As I was going through the off-beat embroidery/print thread, I saw a couple designs with one single print or embroidery/applique work off to the side of the skirt, and I can't help but think that the pretty dress or skirt is ruined with such awkward choice in decorating.

Yeah, I like the idea of a squid on a skirt, but for some reason, it only sounds good, instead of look good. Also, it's kind of hard to show off that kind of design under the gathers and/or pleats (maybe it could have a whole border design of squids?). Maybe I feel this way about those things because I had to deal with selling my friend's cat print skirt from BL - that thing is just awkward.

"Dolly and mori" aren't related to lolita at all, though. Dolly kei and mori girl are their own styles and I think a very tiny amount of people have tried to incorporate them into lolita.

Yeah, I don't fucking get this. If she goes in the direction of what pastries and sweets aren't so bad for you if you're at a meet-up, okay. Some fruit heavy, less sweet recipes, maybe. But how is general dieting tips lolita? The only reason I'm not shitting all over this post is because maybe it'll encourage fatty's to lose weight if someone slaps "lolita" in front of "dieting plan".
