said Professional cosplayer...yeah, that's like saying professional
stamp collector...or professional toy collector, all of which are
hobbies that costs a person a lot of money with very little in return.
But we fucking do it anyways, and you know why? because we love doing
it, despite the financial consequences. We love the creative freedom
without having to worry about some company tagged on our cosplay,
figuratively or not. What you call 'professional cosplay' is nothing
more than being booth babe with added responsibility. I suppose correct
term would be 'Costume modeling commissioner (for purpose of
advertisement)'. Hell, you can call yourself CMC for short. BUT As soon
as your hobby becomes a job, then it's no longer a hobby. I know, I've
been QA Tester few times before. When my hobby of playing game becomes
'testing' game, it stops being fun and gets serious. When cosplay stops
being fun, then it stops being cosplay. If some company offered me
sponsorship for any of my cosplay, I think I'd reject them. Because that
means I have to keep cosplaying in the name of said company, and I
refuse to have my goddamn hobby restricted in any way. There will be
times when I don't want to cosplay period, and that'll be breach of
contract. No thanks. Also, who the hell are you to call yourself
'professional'? You think cosplay is some kind of sports? Ever blown
your knees while sewing fabrics? The most I got is xacto knife through
my thigh, and I walked that shit off. The point is, it's supposed to be a
silly-ass hobby. 'Professional' and 'Cosplay' shouldn't mix.
TLDR: Don't call yourself 'Professional Cosplayer' as if you're looking down on all of us. |
