Hello, Seagulls! i was having a think earlier, and does anybody remember the point in cosplay anymore? Im sure it started out as fun? When did it all get so serious? and why? Pic unrelated, first thing in folder.

It depends on the person. Some people cosplay to have fun with their friends, some people like making things, some people like to roleplay, and some people just really want to show their devotion to something.
If you're starting to feel this way you should probably get off /cgl/, we're not really the staple of cosplay life. We're the bitchy underside that rarely actually comes into play in the real world.
How about we have a cool cosplay dump?

It's still fun for a lot of people. It only seems to be "serious" for the people who have been in it a while and are embarrassed by weebs, or get too caught up in competitions (real or imagined).

I know I've been through that phase where cosplay felt like a chore, and a lot of that has to do with what you cosplay and the people you cosplay with. Take a break, try cosplaying something you wouldn't normally do, cosplay with different people or go to a different con, or work on improving a particular skill or make simple, yet fun pieces (This last one always helps me; doing an easy, colorful costume is a nice break between big stressful projects).

The point in cosplay is to be your favorite character for at least one day or for a special reason like a anime convention.Yeah it will start out as fun, but it will be serious if you're going into the masquerades and cosplay contests, because you have to deal with people just as serious as you.
