Twin towers design. I think she cosplayed her design for the Empire State Bldg, and went into the building for pics in the lobby.

Fuck yeah she is my favorite crazy person.

This is just the most bizarre and specific fixation I've ever heard of. She says on her dA she wants to cosplay more of her skyscraper anthro designs and I honestly can't wait.

She makes them all jedi for some reason .. its just too perfect.

A skyscraper has to defend itself... ya know... with a lightsabre.

But I agree, she is rather entertaining and not vindictive. I've never heard of someone having a skyscraper fetish that they live out in cosplay before.

So, what's the difference between cosplaying a building and other -tans ? Is it really that strange?
Is cosplaying as a nintendo or social networking site any different? I don't think it's all that crazy when I think about it.
    Not white knighting, just curious.
I've never really spoken to her but whenever I see her post on coscom she seems really defensive about anyone being an outcast within the cosplaying community.

I think the thing is, she pretty much makes it seem like a fetish. People do gijinka/human-versions of animals/objects/places all the time. Just look at Hetalia, Pokemon, etc. But what makes it un-creepy for gijinka is that the designs are fully human aside from maybe horns or animal ears/tails. Her designs aren't exactly human.. she still keeps them as buildings but with faces and limbs. That's what makes eyebrows raise along with how everything seems to be about buildings. She even dresses up as the buildings and then goes to actually see the buildings in person.

It just sort of seems to go past cosplay and makes it seem like she's close to one of those people you see on My Strange Addiction who say they're in a relationship with inanimate objects.

Following her logic, the OS-tans should have computer monitors for faces.
    >> Anonymous 03/15/12(Thu)19:55 No.5605429
    >>5605387
But it's still the same concept...so I don't see how it's really any different than someone cosplaying as kikkoman sauce, tumblr, nintendo, or microsoft. I get that it's odd because well...buildings. But it's still the same thing essentially so I really don't see her as crazy.

    >>5605397
I don't think she sees them as a fetish. Again, it is strange. But I don't think she's sexually attracted to buildings (unless shes stated this somewhere) unless we're just saying shes sexually attracted to them because that's all she does (I haven't seen her cosplay anything other than a building.) I understand why she would keep some aspects of a building in her cosplays, the same would be done with gijinka's (as you've already stated) so I guess she would keep the blocky heads? It makes sense because it's something that would characterize them as such and such building? Kind of like how a blastoise gijinka would most likely be seen with it's shell.

Again, I do find it strange because it's something completely different but...I get it.

Urgh. The thought of her finding them sexually attractive didn't cross my mind, but she does seem to have a strange attraction to them. Someone having a fetish doesn't have to be sexual though, which is what I was implying.

    >an object regarded with awe as being the embodiment or habitation of a potent spirit or as having magical potency.
    >any object, idea, etc., eliciting unquestioning reverence, respect, or devotion

I think if she had designed them differently it wouldn't be such a big deal but you have to admit how she draws their heads/faces is rather creepy.

    Then you agree with us?
I mean, I go to art school so I'm used to making sense of dumb ass conceptual work. So the characterization of commonplace structures makes sense but... the manner which she makes her work + the context of it. why

Anthropomorphizing planes, cars, etc. seems a lot less bizarre to me (and most people) than buildings because all the aforementioned things are mobile and interactive. Structures like buildings are static for the most part, unless you count opening doors and windows. Even electronic equipment is interactive.

The Japanese are especially "good" at putting human features onto nonhuman things (everything from animals to vehicles to weapons to houses, cities and mountains), partly due to the everything-has-a-spirit aspect of Shinto and partly due to the way they regard human beings as essentially mechanical in nature.

Still, my unprofessional opinion is that there's something especially weird about this chick's fixation, mainly because the designs are so angular and she seems so focused. It does really remind me of the people with "objectum sexualis" or whatever (sexual attraction to buildings, bridges, theme park rides, etc) -- I remember seeing a special about one woman who had this condition and I think it came along with other developmental disorders as well, though it's been a while.

I agree that it's strange. But only because I haven't seen it before, but I would label her as crazy. When I first saw them I was...taken back. As for her creating relationships amongst structure, I have no real comment but gif. related.
I'm not ready to accept that buildings have fictional feelings for eachother.

What struck me as the most was when she was fiercely defending her idea of cosplaying the Twin Towers and having them do a light saber duel and be victorious. She had a huge skit script she shared on coscom.

When people expressed concern that it might hit too close to home for many people... it was like she was on another wavelength and didn't get why anyone would be upset when the buildings are strong, beautiful, majestic, handsome [enter other descriptions she has used] and would be fighting off the bad guys and would prevail [which we all know from history, kindasortadidn'thappen].

Honestly, she could have easily borrowed elements from the buildings designs to make them into clothing and they would probably look pretty cool. But the fact that the building literally has a face... it is indeed creepy, like uncanny valley creepy.
    >> Anonymous 03/16/12(Fri)00:59 No.5606533
I think another reason it comes across strange is that that's all she cosplays. It's not just an idea or two, but the only costumes she makes are buliding/bridge related. Not saying "it haz 2 b frum ahneemaii or it not count ok?? ok lolz" or anything, but it does have me wonder how she got into the hobby and if she does have an interest in animu/vidya/etc. Or if it's just buildings.

Hope my explanation doesn't come off blocky. Perhaps I should just open the window to new ideas such as hers and not be so square about it all. Maybe we should all just build bridges and come to understand our differences, join together like walls and brick by brick we may become better people. At the height of it all, we're all built with imperfection.

I remember seeing these posts on Coscom. I always thought she had gijinka-styled designs in mind, where the buildings would look like people.
I guess the idea itself is pretty strange either way, but seeing her actual designs makes it a little more odd.
