See, when you make a series of images showing a side-by-side shot of you and the character you intend to portray in the same pose, you don't post that image online. You look at that image, realize you don't look a fucking thing like the character, and GIVE UP.

Unrelated to being fat or not, one difficulty is that anime characters often have generally impossible proportions, re: leg length and such.

I think she looks pretty alright. But I agree that it's not a good idea to have it next to the actual character, it just helps bring out any flaws and differences.

Those legs though, they're so tiny! It's as if someone cut them in half or something.

    >> Anonymous 02/28/12(Tue)03:40 No.5546054
too short and her body shape isn't right (she'd need to be a thin hourglass/pear)
    >> Anonymous 02/28/12(Tue)03:46 No.5546068
I am actually torn between whether or not a rei with a significant butt would be good or not. Like obviously you have to be skinny and have relatively small breasts, but could you get away with a pear shaped rei? I think it'd look really cute, but I'm not sure how well it would fit the character.
Not that I mind, I'm pretty pear shaped and cosplay whatever I want.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/12(Tue)03:48 No.5546081
    >>5546068
you could be pear shaped rei as long as your pear shape wasn't too pronounced and you were closish to an hour glass
you just need to be thin with a perky ass and good long legs
    >> Anonymous 02/28/12(Tue)04:11 No.5546151
All I ask is that she would actually pose like her. Jut her hip out, give a little ompf or somethin.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/12(Tue)04:21 No.5546183
I think the ass line designs needs to be higher. The black lines almost reach the crack of rei's ass but 3D rei's black lines barely hit the back of her thighs.

uh no she isn't. She has some waist definition, though it isn't much
    >> Anonymous 02/28/12(Tue)04:59 No.5546259
she needs to shift her weight more to the left foot, extend the right foot, jut her hip out and turn her waist more. that alone would help in not looking like a waddling rectangle. flatfooted also never really works in 3d.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/12(Tue)05:03 No.5546268
    >>5546259
i dont think it helps that she has Really short legs.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/12(Tue)05:51 No.5546381
And the picture needs to be taken from a lower angle. The angle from above shortens her legs more.
    >> Anonymous 02/28/12(Tue)06:05 No.5546418
It doesn't help that Rei is stick thin and that she's a fatty.

    >Those legs though, they're so tiny! It's as if someone cut them in half or something.

I think it's largely from the camera angle.
You can see the top of her feet, so the photo's clearly been taken with the camera above ground level, most likely at eye-level. A camera's lens distorts images so taking a photo at that angle will make anyone's legs look shorter than they are, and make their torso look longer.
I'm sure her legs would have looked much better if the photographer had kneeled to take the picture - it would still distort the image, but the distortion would stretch her legs and shorten her torso.

Actually OP made an old but true point.
You NEVER want to do this unless you did such a fuckawesome job on something it's spot on and you manage to get the pose exact and you bear a striking resemblance to character.

Otherwise it will make your sewing look half assed, fat (even though you may not be) and even less like the character when people compare you.

Back in the late 90's this was a fad I used to see people do all the time and I was always like, why would you do that to yourself....
    >> Anonymous 02/28/12(Tue)09:03 No.5546629
    >>5546259
I've been wondering this... how acceptable is it to add a covered wedge heel to a costume such as the op? As people irl rarely have these shapely long legs, it would at least be possible to achieve a perkier posture and lengthen the legs somewhat.
    Or is accuracy more importent?
