Saw this girl in line at the airport.

She ended up getting stopped by security and was getting asked all kinds of questions. Before they let her pass she had to remove her lolita dress and put on a t-shirt from her bag.

Anyone know who this girl might be?

I flew in lolita with no problems the beginning of the year. They only stopped me for a pat down at security in Las Vegas because it was a couple days before New Years. On the way back, I didn't even get stopped.

wouldn't flying in lolita be rather uncomfortable?
I mean, most people dont bother with more than flipflops, tees, and sweatpants
    >> Anonymous 02/23/12(Thu)20:14 No.5530152
That's a stupid thing to do anyway. She should have known it would be too much of a hassle. Although, it's not as stupid as the lolita who tried to wear a steel-boned corset on a plane.

It probably depends on whether the person finds the clothes comfortable or not. Personally, they don't bother me, but I wear less constricting pieces when traveling. Cutsews and shirred jsks mostly.

This really bothers me. Not saying I get in my finest frills to hop on a plane, but I miss the days when flying was a more romantic experience no matter where you were seated. Not saying that I wear stilettos on an overnight flight, but I always try to look nice. People dress like refugees on planes nowadays.

Personally when I fly I am normally on a pretty long flight/travel time. like 10+ hours, and I normally have to be up before the ass crack of dawn so I'm not gonna lie I dress like a bum when I get on the flight. Normally though I will change into something on the plane along with doing my hair and make up so that way when whoever picks me up won't bitch about me leaving the house in sweats.
    >> Anonymous 02/23/12(Thu)20:29 No.5530224
Surely a weirdly-dressed person would be far less likely to bomb a plane. I mean, they'd at least try to make themselves less conspicuous.

When I fly, I like to wear my loli, because a) I love the olde world tradition of dressing up to travel and b) loli is gigantic, and difficult to fit in my suitcase.

Just don't go full costume on the plane. I've worn cat ears on a plane before simply because it was logistically impossible for me to put them on at the convention (since they had to be put on before I put my hair in pigtails and let me tell you getting your pigtails to look anime takes hours and a lot of hair spray.)
I didn't get any trouble for it. A few people asked and I just said I was on my way to a convention and they were just like "Such wacky young'ns!" It was cool because I wasn't aspie about it.

Oh, I travel enough to know that. Comfort is my travel-couture. If I plan on traveling by plane to get to a con, I'd go a day before the con so I can prepare there.

What I mean is, if I do a cosplay involving props (like an over-sized sword or a Celty helmet), I wonder how I'm going to transport my stuff safely.

Well, if it's too big to fit in a suitcase it probably violates the airline policies to begin with, so to get let on the plane with it you'd have to be an aspie dick about it, and you probably wouldn't get let on anyway. I'd suggest either making it collapsible so you can fit it in a suitcase or put it in a box and check those boxes, no questions asked.

Hm, ok. I love how that no matter how many fragile tags there are on my luggage, there's the potential that something will break. It almost makes me wonder if it would be better to pack and mail that stuff to a friend's house near the con or something. Has anyone ever have to do that before?

If you have friends who live nearby by all means do so. Otherwise pack your boxes to be fool proof. Wrap all the fragile parts in bubble wrap, wrap that bubble wrap in foam, wrap the whole thing in even more foam, another layer of bubble wrap, and then maybe fill the whole thing with peanuts just for safe measure.

Do you know where she was going, or what airline? Just out of curiosity.

I've never had any trouble with security myself. I flew for the very first time back in August, and each time I've flown since then I've been pretty surprised by how EASY security is. I didn't get pat down, put through any kind of scanner or anything.
