So I fucked up when plucking/trimming my eyebrows earlier this week... Like on looks absolutely lovely while the other looks like I had a mild stroke at this point there is no way I can make them look even even when shaping them. What would you lovely mak up ladies of /cgl/ suggest I do. My eye brows grow in really fast where I have to pluck them twice a week or get them waxed every week. Should I just shave them off completely and start new or wait and make sure I don't fick up again.

This last time I did them while heavily medicated and blind in my left eye.

    >>5526589
If they grow fast, I just say leave them. It'll only be a week or two until it fills out again, so I think you should just fill it in with a brow pencil in the meantime (I'm sure black or brown eye liner would work too). If the problem is that one will look drawn on and cartoony, try filling in the other one so it matches. I don't mess around with my eyebrows much, I can't really give any other advice

So the bases of my eyelashes are blonde and no matter how much mascara I put on, I can't get them black. This makes eyeliner on my top lid really hard because it looks like I have a huge gap of bare skin between my eyeliner and bottom of my eye lid. Any tips?

if I were you I'd just fill them in with eyeshadow that matches your hair color until they grew back.

I fill in my brows on a daily basis anyway because I like the look.

When you apply your mascara try holding the wand at the roots and wiggling it a little before sweeping through. I find that if I do that, it looks best if I only use one coat of mascara, otherwise my lashes clump together. You could also switch to a brown mascara and see if that makes it look better.

Question... I usually do a cat eye with liquid liner, but add eyeshadow along my lid to thicken the appearance of the eyeliner, since it's easier for my shaky hands. Problem is, the eyeshadow smudges easily. Is there a really durable brand/type of eyeshadow I can use that lasts throughout the day?

Are you using a primer? That might help, or you could use a pencil liner and smudge that to get the effect you want.

No matter what I do, I can't seem to put on blush to flatter me. Maybe it's because I'm new to wearing it so it seems outlandish (I'm pretty fair) or I'm wearing too much. Any pointers on applying blush? Thanks. :)
    >> Anonymous 02/22/12(Wed)22:32 No.5526769
Speaking of eyebrow disasters, I just tweezed mine so that the shape was totally awesome. Then I looked in a full-size mirror, instead of the compact I'd been using, and noticed that they are way too far apart and really draw attention to how wide-set my eyes are.

If I draw them in with pencil so that they extend inwards more will it look totally stupid/obvious? Mine also grow in pretty quickly, so I might just wait it out.
    >> Anonymous 02/22/12(Wed)22:37 No.5526790
    >>5526748
Go to Sephora and just ask for help, they can help you pick out a shade that looks good on you and show you how to apply it. Otherwise you could start off with a very light dusting of blush, then work it up in layers. Remember to blend it out well, and coupling it with contouring and maybe highlighting might help it look more natural.

    >>5526769
It'll probably be very hard to get the drawn on bit looking natural, I just suggest you just do your eye makeup so that your eyes don't look so wide-set (i.e. put darker colours near the middle and inner corner of your lid, start eyeliner from the inner corner and don't thicken the line too much at the outer edges etc.) until they grow back
    >> Anonymous 02/22/12(Wed)22:38 No.5526793
    >>5526769
Never use a compact or handheld mirror to do brows. They're almost always concave/convex and will invariably fuck up your perspective. If they grow out fast I wouldn't bother with the pencil, it tends to look pretty obvious on the thicker end of the brow when they've been extended.

Same for me. I used eyelid tape when I slept for about two weeks, and my second double eyelid has stuck ever since. Once in a while though if I don't sleep properly it will fall back down, but nothing half an hour of eyelid tape won't fix. I make my own eyelid tape out of medical tape and cutting it into crescent moon shapes.

Since eyelid tape looks really stupid on one eye during the day, you can use some eyelid glue to keep the eyelid in place until it stays by itself.

    Hope that was helpful!

Are you dipping your wand back in the tube? If you're not, it's probably because there's less product on the wand for the second eye. If you are, then I have no idea why. Whenever I apply mascara, my left eye always looks better, no matter whether or not I dip the wand again.

Your eyes look either brown or hazel, I'm just going to copy and paste some Covergirl stuff I found.

    For brown eyes:
    >Shades that suit: Conyers says that brown eyes have it fairly easy. “You have numerous choices when it comes to eye colour. Opt for deep shades of blue and brown, silvery grey, plum, gold, vanilla, shades of purple and violet. Metallics are also a great way to make brown eyes pop.” Top recommendations include gold, bronze and deep purples.
    >Ones to watch: Beware the copper. Conyers warns “coppers are always dangerous on brown eyes if they don’t have the correct depth to them. Sometimes it can look like you have a bruised eye socket so you need to make sure you use tones that have more warmth (gold) in them.”

    For hazel eyes:
    >Shades that suit: Be bold. Conyers says that hazel eyes can stand bold shades as they easily adapt to shade variations. Other options include “dusty rose and richer pinks (these will make hazel eyes stand out), as well as brighter greens and electric blue.”
    >Ones to watch: “Rich purples and blues can make greener eyes appear muddy and dark, rather than have them standing out,” according to Conyers. If you simply must wear purple, “choose softer shades like lilac that will brighten the eye.”

I'll continue blue and green in the next post
    >> Anonymous 02/23/12(Thu)01:49 No.5527416
    >>5527413
    For green eyes:
    >Shades that suit: It’s all about keeping it classic if you have emerald eyes. Choose “shades of brown, deep purples, plums, lilacs, and dark greens.” A dressier option is to introduce “taupe or gold as a highlighter which works well for evening make-up for green eyes.”
    >Ones to watch: Conyers advises “avoiding shades of blue and some tones of pink, white and silvers. These shades tend to have cooler (more silver) tones within them and as green is a cool tone itself, it can lead to clashing.”

    For blue eyes:
    >Shades that suit: According to Conyers, “coppery tones and rich browns offset blue eyes, making them appear more intense.” When selecting eyeshadow for blue eyes, Conyers hints that “it’s better to choose colours that will contrast with your natural eye colour such as shades of brown, grey, camel, taupe, dark browns, blacks, charcoal and copper. Warm shades will contrast the blue eyes, drawing attention to them.”
    >Ones to watch: Avoid blue eyeshadow as it “competes with your eye colour.” If you’re really, really attached to your blue, Conyers recommends opting for “a silver/grey shadow that has touches of blue within the pigment.” This will enhance the eye colour instead of drawing away attention from it.

Can't recommend products, but for concealing, I find it works best if you just 'place' the concealer on your skin, then just blend the edges. Don't play around too much with it, use your fingers to lift it off a little at a time if there's too much on, but be careful not to undo the concealing by touching it too much.

Try using foundation first, then concealer if it's not enough to cover dark circles. A problem you might have is fine lines, I find that if I use concealer under my eyes it makes the much more obvious.

Bill Nye. Or just google "Homestuck troll make-up" there are numerous tutorials and suggestions. And use sealer so you don't rub paint on people, please.

    Yup.
Pluck within the red circles I've outlined.
I've also removed the hairs myself with the clone tool so you can get a vague idea of how they'll look.

Touch not a single hair on the upper part of the outer edge of your eyebrow, even if it looks like a random flyaway hair.

Invest in an eyebrow pencil to fill in any gaps or to simply thicken them out a bit.

No problem, and it won't be so tough so long as you don't go overboard.
What will really make the difference is when you've got the eyebrow pencil, because you will be able to fill in that sparse area at the top and it really will make a world of difference.

I tried to do a quick example here again, of the top bit shaded, but I have to go now so good luck x

Does anyone have tips on contouring? I'm pretty experienced with makeup, and I know how to contour for a performance onstage, but don't know what products to use for an everyday look. Should I just get powder/foundation in a color a few shades dark than the one I'm using? Bronzer?

Also, I'd like to make my large, crooked nose look smaller and daintier, and my rounded-square jawline look thinner and more cheekboney-- so if you guys have any contouring input on that, I'd love you forever.

I've never worn makeup in my life, so excuse if this is a retarded question.

Is it necessary to put anything on the inside part of the lid, below the lashes? (or above, on the bottom lid)
I am totally squicked out by the idea of putting anything so close to where my eyelids meet my eye.

I haven't had them done myself, but I've seen prices for them and they look really expensive. I know a girl from school who bought eyelash extension kits off ebay and did hers herself. They were like individual lashes glued to your own ones, they lasted about a month or two and cost her a lot less. You can get different ones, from extremely dramatic to very natural looking.

I did my own eyelash extensions, you can buy them at Sally's, and if that is something you want to do, it takes a while to get the hang of. You don't put them on your skin, you have to lay them on top of your own lashes but you also have to get enough glue on the false ones. But if you get too much on the lash, it hardens and you can feel it when you blink and it looks like you have sleep caught in them. So keep some remover handy just in case.

Get a different foundation, eg a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. If you have blemishes, use a concealer such as MAC Moisturecover. I still get flakey skin too, no matter how well I exfoliate/moisturise.

Homygod Secret of Kells! I fucking LOVE you. I'd do Ben Nye bodypaint, kind of like what people use for Scanty and Kneesocks, only in white instead of red. I'd mix a teeny bit of beige into it though, so you don't end up looking like a clown.

You can use Ben Nye, Graftobian, Pax, or Snazaroo paints.
I'd advise you to use the same method as would be used for a Hometuck cosplay, but with white paint.

However, instead of using black over the white, you should use a very pale blush or something similar.

I like the gal looks that have very pale pink lips and in pictures it always seems like the center of the bottom lip is much darker. You can, some people with fuller lips may have a slight indentation in the center of the bottom lip, using a slightly darker lip stain would achieve that. I would experiment a bit with a lip pallet first, if you have one, to see what you like best.

So this isn't a makeup question per se, just makeup-related.
What do I do when the Sephora girls are rude?

I go in without makeup on because duh, I'm about to ask for recommendations on foundation. It takes me 10-15 minutes to get their attention. Then they tell me to wait in a chair for just a minute, which ends up being another 10. When a girl comes to see me, she doesn't really talk. I have to poke and prod for any information on the product. Even when she's applying it, she's talking into her little wireless headset thing and looking around. She usually leaves halfway through applying it for *another* 10 minutes.
This has happened to me like 3 times. I know I'm ugly, but shit. Should I just give up asking salespeople?

You really shouldn't go to a cosmetic store without makeup if you want to be taken seriously. They will take your makeup off if you can't describe your skin well enough.

It's not about your looks, it's about that you look like you don't care about makeup. At the least wear nice clothes and do your hair well. It's just how makeup people think- if you have no makeup on and ungroomed eyebrows, hair, a boring outfit we assume you don't care so why should we try hard?

Now that doesn't excuse at all Sephora's behavior, you really should complain to someone higher up. But Sephora workers are not required to be licensed so don't go there anyway if you want to learn about makeup.

You don't have close set eyes, you have close set eyes if the distance between them is smaller than the width of one of your eyes (opposite for wide set). It does look like you have protruding eyes though. Try following >>5529106 and >>5528950. The eyeliner you wear at the moment is fine, though I really don't think that the white eyeliner looks good on anyone, and you have large eyes so you don't need it either.

    >>5536297
Looks like you have protuding eyes too, so follow >>5529106 and >>5528950 as well. Your problem might also be because you look like you have very fair skin, so darker colours might look really harsh on you and wash you out. Try using medium-dark browns as your darkest colour, and avoid black eyeliner and mascara. Also make sure you're blending your makeup very well, because you're fair skinned it may be more obvious if you don't.

I have hooded eyes. Is there any way I can pull off a look like OP's picture? Hooded eyes means I have to be ridiculously careful with how thick I make my eyeliner on my top lid if not it looks like I am wearing black eyeshadow. They're not as hooded as East Asian eyes but there's really not a lot of room to work with. Pic related, that's about the amount of lid I have.
    >> Anonymous 02/26/12(Sun)23:26 No.5541788
    >>5541774
You can do the flick/cat eyes on any eye type, it just depends on how you place the flick. With hooded eyes, it's best to just line the outer half of your eyes and do a longer flick. If you line the whole lid it can make your eyes appear a lot smaller, and the longer flick should help to open up your eyes more. Just experiment a bit and you'll find something that works on your eye shape.

If you make the line thinner, sure. You can just draw a thin line, then flick it out at the end, make the line a bit thicker on the end if it looks okay on your eyes.

you may still be able to fit a small flick, but you won't be able to do anything like op's picture.

i have one lazy eye, and i can do a cat eye perfectly on the normal eye but have trouble with the hooded one. the flick disappears into the eyelid crease or is otherwise distorted by it and looks wonky as hell. i can adjust it so it looks like a normal cat eye while my eye is open, but if i close my eye it looks wrong.

the flick is supposed to follow the angle of your lower lash line upwards, which people like you and i can't do when the upper crease is in the way.

no prob. if you do that blend the crap out of it.

as for the folks who have glasses, choose lighter, shimmery or metallic, BRIGHT colors. anything will be subdued under your glasses. use a lot of contrast- like black, white, and a middle-toned grey. also, tap a little reflective white or off-white on your tear duct- this will brighten your eyes behind the glass.

Just saw this on youtube: take a powder foundation or finishing powder (pressed or loose, it doesn't matter, though if it's loose remember to tap off the excess) on a small brush like a concealer brush. Press it under the eye, up to the liner, but not on top of it. The idea is that the powder helps absorb the oils that make your liner smudge, so it stays in place.

About blush: I wear black plastic thick framed glasses with purple on the inside. The purple reflects off my face and gives me a subtle pinky-purple tone on my cheeks. I should avoid pink/red blushes, right? I've never used blushes and when I have tried I find they look weird, though I'm not sure if it's because of my glasses or if it's because I'm not used to seeing my face with blush on. I have yellow toned light brown skin, btw. Should I use a matte bronzer or something instead of traditional blushes?
