The problems are invasions from other boards, lack of mods/janitors, people creating off-topic threads, people not saging off-topic threads or irrelevant posts, and most of all, people just being absolute asses in general and constantly replying to someone when they say the littlest thing bad about them. If you are posting anonymously, why do you even care that someone disagrees with you? They don't know who you are so why do you feel the need to have a massive irrelevant bitchfest in the middle of perfectly good threads, ruining them?

No offense, but it can't be anybody in the cosplay circle. Unlike other boards, some people here actually know each other in real life. The odds of them letting their friends get away with everything while enforcing the rules for the rest of us is high.

Dakota threads are the main problem right now, but in general I'd say whenever some random person comes in, posts a misogynist thread, and that gets more posts faster than a real cosplay thread.

The main reason I like /cgl/ is because it's a cosplay imageboard. I've honestly had moments where I'd think it would be nice to just make an imageboard dedicated to cosplay and J-fashion, with about five different boards for different things involving cosplay pictures.

And I honestly don't mind that we share with lolitas, I actually like it.

I applied to be a janitor last year when moot said he was taking apps. That was ignored but at least he listened to the /diy/ requests. /diy/ is what this board could be if everyone got their shit focused and saved off-topic stuff for their personal journals. The only problem with that is that you've all scared off anyone who might have been able to really contribute. Why on earth would someone with any skills or knowledge want to spend time here and go unappreciated when they can go to dedicated forums or other sites?

So really I guess what I am saying is that even if we took steps to fix /cgl/, it's highly unlikely that quality posters would come here and stay long term.

I don't know how often you visit other boards, I don't do so very frequently but places like /diy/ have a handful of trips who consistently post helpful and informative things without causing drama. The example I'm thinking of is FarmerA.

On /cgl/ we used to have I think his name was Volpin? He does a lot of fabrication work of high quality. He wasn't a prolific poster in the past but I can't remember the last time I saw him here. We also had HelpfulShopperPerson and FairyGodmother on the lolia/fashion side. HSP only posts once in a blue moon now and I haven't seen FairyGodmother in months.

I can't think of any other consistently benevolent trips off the top of my head but I've been spending less time here recently as well as I've found tumblr fulfills my needs better pound for pound than /cgl/ does.

The board is shitty because the off-topic posts exceed the on-topic ones. There's always going to be some drama or some tripfaggotry circle jerking. The issue is that there shouldn't be more of those threads than there are actual cosplay/EGL threads. There are two easy fixes for this:

1) STOP RESPONDING TO OBVIOUS TROLL THREADS. MY GOD, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE. The fact that someone can create 10 "hehe, girls are stupid" threads and you'll bump them all does not help.

2) Similarly, don't respond to thread hijacking by continuing the hijacking. You think some tripfags are taking an on-topic thread and making it about them? POST SOMETHING ON TOPIC IN THE THREAD. Don't make a post commenting that it's hijacking the thread because you're only moving it further away.

Those two things, this board would be 1000x better and all it takes is the self restraint to not get sucked into that shit. Yes, I realize there's some irony to saying such things in an off-topic meta thread to start with, but it's clearly on everyone's minds.
