I'm VERY pleased with the con in general. Masquerade was the best it's been in years. (Opinion is only on regular masquerade, not WCS) and I had a great time.

Why? Because when you get to know them personally, you know exactly where you stand.

I made a monster out of someone once. I didn't even see her photos for like a year or so.
She went from a size 2-4 to size 12, apparently was on drugs, and kinda shitty. And I was still feeling anxious.. over some monster in my fucking head.
I wish I'd followed my own advice for that. But it was hard with someone I was trying to avoid and couldn't meet to weigh myself with. I thought I was just avoiding photos of her really well. She apparently just wasn't posting, for good reason. Oh well. Live and learn.


The BEST thing of level things out.. is to get to know their personality by legitimately being friends with someone you fawn over. I'm never jelly of my gorgeous friends (who I found online and decided to find out if we'd click as friends) because I know each of us has our own set of faults and awesome.

I was not too pleased with the masquerade. There were cool entries and awesome costumes, but the performances and some dances were lack luster. I felt the same with WCS. A bunch of things were off and I really only enjoyed a few of the entries. (Everyone in WCS sans 1 or 2 entries had amazing costumes though. I had a lot of fun meeting people, though it mostly just observing and putting faces to names. The free soda was awesome, and it was great of Fang to get pizza for everyone.

But aside from that; great con, just the right amount of alcohol, figures, and my tray of sweet treats didn't get dropped. The quick set epoxy couldn't hold the sundae down so I opted for Krazy glue from the CVS nearby and its in good shape.

It was a good weekend. Friday could have just not happened. I didn't have the wings on for long and I broke them that morning. Don't ever trust escalators. I then spent Friday fixing the one wing was ready for judging that night.

Oh yeah it is, but it still felt very small. I did run into a lot of the same people, it was more timing than anything. It was also hard with me cause I could not be in my cosplay for long. Okay, commentbombing time.

This time around, I did the stupid mistake of volunteering both 20 hours for the con and 8 hours to the orchestra. Sure, they were fun and paid off, but this really cost me a lot of time to socialize and have fun. (And that crash space policy... ALL OF MY FUCKING HATE.) If the orchestra comes back next year, they're going to have to do without my services. Once I'm able to afford shit, I'll surely try to participate more in /cgl/ meetups and stuff. (I briefly visited the Saturday meetup, but I was doing the graveyard shift at the time and I didn't want to derelict for too long.)

But still, I managed to have plenty of fun. I saw Maguma again, but no-one else, really. (Aside from Jkid, but I see him at every local con anyway.) Didn't get to meet Ukraine as I would've liked. And did Oshi even show up? Also didn't like that every time I saw stunning cosplay that I wanted to take photos of, I didn't have my camera with me. (FML.)

Comments on the cosplay presence... Homestuck wasn't as big as it was in AUSA, but of course you couldn't turn the corner without seeing at least one troll. Bronies, too, but there wasn't that much cosplay beyond the occasional Applejack and Rainbow Dash.
Way too many Matryoshka Mikus and Magnet Lukas. Saw one SeeU and that made me ecstatic. Where's the V3 love?!?!

The ball has improved, but it's still more of the same awkwardness. (Sometimes I wonder why they bother to show up at all, if only to show off their purty cosplay dresses.) Though I did find the occasional young lady who was willing and ABLE to learn some of the more advanced stuff. But seriously - Party Rock Anthem and PonPonPon? To put it in a relevant way, W(altz) T(ango) F(oxtrot)? They should've played salsa instead, goddammit.

I think my greatest accomplishment at the con thus far, not to exaggerate, is dragging together an unplanned Avatar photoshoot based off of an offhand post on Coscom. Basically I told every Avatar cosplayer I saw that there juuust might possibly but not for sure be a photoshoot Saturday night at 6:30. I wasn't even sure myself if it was happening at all. Then came the time... I showed up in my costume, and fuck me, people ACTUALLY showed up despite nothing being in stone! So I took it upon myself to run this thing, doing what I learned from other people running shoots. (Ironically, I had no camera at the time myself.) Sure, it was pretty small, but it was still a good experience, and God knows we Avatards need to make a presence at cons! So if you participated in this shoot and you're reading this, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please post pictures and/or links!

So despite the disappointments, I loved this year's con, and I'm looking forward to next year being even better! (Might contribute a panel, who knows...)

Oookay, comments on the con. Oddly enough, I actually attend opening/closing ceremonies, so I can safely say... Going by the rough order I did things...

Tenchi Panel was a great way to start the con, pretty damn fun. If I could make a suggestion, maybe offer only one type of candy if you do it again, Washu, since almost no one was going up after they got the questions right... Also coincidentally sat by a Ryoko and Ayeka cosplayer so hearing them playfully bicker between each other in between questions was funny too.
Oh, and Washu, thanks so much for the carrot keychain thingamabobs. Little sister loved it, she put it on her con lanyard. :3

Lessee, next I got autographs so I guess I'll just cover how those lines were handled in one fell swoop. Personally, I feel they were a lot better than last year, and I was amazed by how short the last day lines were, at least in comparison to the last signings last year.
Felt a bit bugged that they the Japanese mangaka started his signing when Stan Sakai was late (no, I don't want Izumi-sensei's signature if I have to buy something since I never heard of him until the day of the con, stop trying to sell me stuff), but I have no idea what happened there.

Opening ceremonies were amazing, wouldn't change a thing. On the actual guests, I was amazed by how humble /all/ of them were except for Yaya, and even then she seemed nice in spite of her inflated ego...

All the other panels I attended were generally fun. I was blown away by the fact that everything was so tidy, all the panelists seemed to move like clockwork, 2 minutes before the panel ended they wrapped up and didn't need to be told or nothin'. This is of course in comparison to AUSA so... I dunno. Really liked the panels run by Studio Kojokan.

Dealer's Room was phenomenal, though there was noticeably a whole lot more people. There was one certain dealer that upmarked things by like 30 or so dollars and had the balls to do it right next to a dealer that sold a lot of the same things for less than MSRP so, yeah... Artist's Alley was kind of vacant, both in terms of artists and people browsing. Maybe I shoulda come back after Friday night?

Closing ceremonies were just abysmal. Literally lasted 7 minutes, only one of the con chairs was there... I mean, I understand that some of the guests were still doing signings and such but surely a few were available? Or at least the rest of the staff? Come on now! At least it was good to know the con would be returning to National Harbor and that they already had some guests lined up for next year they just need contracts with, but still...

I also feel they could have finalized the schedule a bit sooner. Just went over it again online and realized that they made changes the day of the con that would've made it easier for me to see some stuff I wanted to see. Ah well...

So I went to the rave for the first time...ever. Raves are very much so not my thing, but there was one DJ I wanted to see. I honestly...didn't have fun until he started though. I'm too awkward and hard of hearing, so people talking to me was kind of stressful.

But JAKAZiD was great, and I enjoyed wathcing him turn knobs, haha. It sucked because there were 2 breaks during his set . I thought it was due to electrical, but I wasn't sure. during the first one I asked him if he'd play Fading Day and he said yes, so I was pretty stoked.....then when the second cut out happened he just looked surprised and looked down to me and said "I was just about to play Fading Day" then someone whispered to him and he packed up his shit and left. So I went to go ask him what was up on his way out. Apparently he got kicked off because 'his music was too fast and people were passing out'. which is just...ugh, such a sad story. I was so pumped for fading day.

Also, I can't believe the amount of disrespect people had for the DJs though. Everyone during the break was screaming to him. "MORE HAPPY HARDCORE, MORE DUB" One guy actually said to him that he needed "you need to play trance. this shit is too fast, I can't shuffle. Dude, I can slide it to you all you need to do is play it". And I'm pretty...shy and reserved for the most part but I got so mad I told them off. It's kind of an insult to someone playing their mixes to offer them some random shit. But uh, I really don't forsee myself going to another one ever unless there's someone else playing I like.

Just got back to NYC about an hour ago. Leaving for Cali tomorrow. Aside from hating some details on Saber Lily, getting threatened to be kicked out of the con while wearing Motoko and getting Anthy make-up ERRYWHERE, I had fun. It was nice spending time with people I don't usually get to, but this con was way too damned busy for me.

I met up with Good friends made some new ones, saw awesome cosplays and cosplayers.
I had a awesome time running around as Fourze, I got stopped more for photos here than at Otakon. There's some REALLY BAD PHOTOS are out there, bracing for /cgl/ shitstorm.

Ya Ya Han is STILL FUCKING MAD AT ME hahahaha. J.Nig was cool as hell had a good time talking to her late Friday night/early Saturday.

The /cgl/ meets were fun, I learned I ramble to fucking much but I'll get better about it.

I was told by one of the guys working with Allkore that there were 5 medical emergencies during the sets, and they were eventually asked to play stuff with lower BPM because it was too hardcore, people were passing out and the room was getting too hot.

The ball was better; however it felt like a cosplay prom rather than an actual ball.
There wasn't a lot of variety in cosplays either. I feel like all I saw was Homestuck and Ponies.

Those are my only complaints really. The con was amazing. I can't wait till next year.
