It was better than last year, but last years had a soul eater deathnote yaoi crossover skit.

There was a few good cosplay/groups, but some of them were just boring or cringworthy. The Trap Katy Perry miming a live version of Firework, a fair bit of out of time dancing, some character in bandages miming some emo metal shit (decent costume, boring skit), and some attempts at being funny which failed.

I was dissappointed the Franky one piece skit's music wouldn't work, it was supposed to go through a couple of songs, but the tech guys there fuck up the sound for it.

It was my first time going and I didn't have high hopes but I did what I do best and just sit in the same spot looking after the bags and being home-base for the friends that gather! and as usual I had a great time whilst doing it.
I only went into the actual expo once but I got what I wanted and then had a great time meeting all the new people who sat near by. Although small the meet was good and it was great seeing people again!

My pictures aren't very good but I'll re-size them and post a few, although I didn't take many.

If you have any pictures of my friend and I please post them! We rarely get to see pictures of ourselves, so it'd be nice to have a few.

Telford is a good one to start at because its smaller than Birmingham and much smaller than London, plus its a good place to find your feet.

If you want to make a costume abomination and not get judged TOO harshly, it's a good platform as other cosplayers will be willing to give you advice.

It's also cheap, easily accessible, and great stalls and stores.

Birmingham is good for shopping and for photo opportunities though its not very good for taking 'scened' photographs as there is precious little aesthetic value around. Though they have good guests but not a great masquerade (in my experience)

The rules are you can't enter the same costume at more than one MCM event but so far as I know that's mostly enforced London to London or if you've already won if that makes sense?

I think if you enter at Midlands or Manchester for example as it's still relatively small you could re-enter at London or at whichever you didn't enter if there have been substantial updates to the group/costumes.

If you're not pre-judged and therefore 'not competing' it seems silly to me to say you can't enter something else.

The rule is really there to stop people trying and trying and trying until they win with whatever costume they're in and thereby taking up a spot someone new could have had when the audience has probably seen the costume before.

Guys this is really unfair, I don't generally comment on these threads - I occasionally browse them, but I really need to intervene here before this gets out of hand.

We hit a number of issues and unfortunately two of the costumes for our group weren't finished in time for the performance - This wasn't Hester 'fucking us over' nor her fault. Stuff happens - and stuff gets in the way.

We all just wanted to get out there and enjoy what was left of the day - Hester was planning to do her cosplay right up to the last minute - so understandably she's not wearing a wig or donning perfect make up. She literally threw the dress on and joined us like we asked.

We do intend to do the complete group at a later event with the skit we had originally practised for it so while it's really unfortunate- it's not the end of the world. =]

Really sick of the midlands judging. Joke awards are all very funny unless you're competing because they end up only giving out one or two awards for actual costume quality. I wish they'd just stick to a simple 1st, 2nd, 3rd for costume and one award for performance.

Also Steve winning an award every year is getting old. Fair enough when he did that ballet dance one year but this was just miming and his costume is bought pieces stuck together. I like the guy and enjoy his performances but he doesn't deserve an award when better people are being ignored.

I think they have changed it to that format of judging to stop some of the drama happening. I don't think it works. Some cosplayers do spend a lot of time making costumes so I think joke awards can still upset. Personally, I prefer the old format.

Well the stage was right next to the exit this time, so the cosplayers were queing up behind a sign and out of the hall area itself. I liked the fact that the cosplayers were hidden until they got on stage as opposed to having to walk out of a door and through some crowd to get to the steps.

Also the stage was bigger, I liked that too. But the judging system threw me off. I don't think it's fair to make a usually competitive masquerade mostly non-competitive. If that makes sense? Cause I know a couple of people who put a lot of effort into their costumes and were a bit confused by the judging.

Though I think you're all being a bit unfair to Steve. He did draft the pattern for that corset himself, and make it from scratch, modified all the belts and made all the hello kitty stuff himself and glued on all the diamonte. So it's not all bought on bought.

It was also brought in to get the fun focus back into cosplay. Its awards like the 'The Lady Gaga award for best hair' or something similar. It works for Ayacon but I'm not sure it works for Expos.
