There's
also a problem with the fanbase hero-worshipping certain cosplayers and
copying not the comic, but those cosplayers and their interpretations.
Sometimes this is fine, but sometimes it really backfires.
And
there's also this whole thing about trying to be OMGFIRST ever since
Cascade. I can see why some of the cosplayers would want to do it; that
God Tier Gamzee that was going around Tumblr the other day had an
obscene number of notes and at least 2/3 of them were "omg someone
finally did it!" and you can bet that whoever tries that design next
won't get even 1/2 of the attention.
Combine all this shit with a
bunch of newbies who think anything is "good enough", underage kids
everywhere, and the way that maybe 12 of the cosplayers total understand
the difference between critiques and bashing, and you've got a recipe
for awfulness.
I still love to see the designs when done well
though. The best cosplayers, the ones with the good costumes, good wigs,
proper proportioning, and the acting skills to make it convincing, are
really great. |
