    Lolita confessions / Unpopular opinions

    --

I fucking hate rocking horse shoes and other lolita boots. They look so bad and ruin the entire outfit. Bonnets and other hats also make you look gay as fuck.

OOT Sweet Loli makes you look like a katamari.

I don't mind fat girls in burando or other loli, as long as they aren't busting the seams.
    >> Anonymous 02/04/12(Sat)20:54 No.5455314
I dislike the way Lolita is going in the West, to a point where I don't even wear Lolita around other Lolita's anymore. To meetups, cons, or anywhere I'm worried a "lolita" might see me. With all the replicas, and people trying to break the image of what Lolita is and make it their own I don't want to associate myself with it.

I miss being in Japan where Lolita is still Lolita, and not so gross like it is here. In the US especially.

I think any lolita over the age of 21 needs to cut that shit out. I don't care how young you supposedly look, the fashion looks best on younger women. Yes, I am including classic lolita, go wear straight-up Victorian if you still have the bug.

Lolita is a elitist fashion, the western world has turned it into a fucking cheap as shit fashion. I hate it. So does every Lolita in Japan. And all the designers. Everyone in the J-fashion scene hates the western world over there, and this is why. Don't like it? I don't care. This is specifically an unpopular opinion topic.

Nope. The fact that I don't buy knock offs, wear coords that took actual thought and effort to go into it, and actually fit in the clothes I wear is what keeps me from being an ita.

I don't care if you've been to Japan, or where you're from. The second you wear a knock off you're the cancer that's killing Lolita.

They fit the clothes, they're wearing brand, and it is specifically the designers dressing them, except the street shots of course. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it ita. Replicas, wearing something that doesn't fit you, and calling it "Lolita" when it holds no Lolita element is what makes you an ita in Japan.

Of course they do, everyone will always pick apart everyone based on personal preference. But what makes someone actually ita over there is knock offs and squeezing your ass into something that doesn't fit.

It's hard to talk to you, because over there their are fewer words for things, so "ita" means a lot of things depending on the context, so does "Lolita" actually. But what "ita" means over here, is what I'm explaining. Like the god awful eyesore. Ita also means I don't like her coord, or I wouldn't wear it that way, or any level of "I don't like". But it's slang, everyone uses it differently.

I hated RHS for the longest time too, OP. But now IMO they look good on people with skinny legs. People with short stubby legs should definitely avoid them.
I also hated bonnets when I just started, but now I love them. Depending on the shape, they can elongate your face and make your face look smaller.

Personally I hate it when people use repetitive prints when making dresses. Pic related: it's a cute print, and I could see it being made as a dress, but for the love of god don't just use such a busy print for a dress. Get a similar fabric of another print so you'd get some sort of contrast in there and break it up visually.
But no, usually people just make a whole dress out of this sort of printed fabric, and throw some lace on there and call it a jsk.

I think also that the statement that Western lolita looks "trashy" is really kind of misdirected?
The way one culture handles a fashion will be different from how another one will handle that same fashion.
Not only that, but we have to remember that fashions always change, whether it's from year to year or country to country. In order to keep up with that, change is necessary. That's why "old school" lolita isn't as prevalent anymore, because tastes have changed and the fashion needs to suit a different kind of consumer.

I like lifestyle lolita as long as it isn't taken to retarded extremes. It's one thing to enjoy a certain aesthetic that lolita happens to fit into, but being a deluded fuck is quite another thing entirely.

People who wear this style while putting no effort into their personal appearance look frumpy and ita as hell.

I wish the lolita community was more like the gyaru one in the sense that those girls aren't shy about giving concrit to posters so they can improve. (I could do without the cattyness and duplicity in the secrets, though.) There are several community members that I wish would see how much of a difference a sense of style and a little careful planning would make in there overall appearance.

I wish Lolita would regain some of its elegance and lose some of its childishness.

I will probably wear lolita when I am middle aged. Even though I'm not wild about all her outfits (see unpopular opinions above), I adore arsenicandoldlace for doing what she wants and not giving a single fuck about other people.

    Okay.
    So.
I hate the mentality that goes along with using "elitist" as an insult.
I mean, sure, everybody hates and exclusive snob, but CALL A SPADE A SPADE. Turning the word "elite" into a put-down? Sounds to me like the people who do that have accepted that they'll never be elite themselves, and are seeking to soothe their self-inflicted butthurt.
I see an elite-level Loli, and I set out to BE THAT GOOD OR BETTER.
I see a snobby hater and I keep on walking.

I hate that lolita has become a costume, and that all the new lolitas have such a HUGE problem when members of the public call it a costume.

As a gothic/classic lolita who dresses fairly simply nobody ever says this to me, but when you're wearing a multi coloured clown wig, a shit ton of accessories and an animal shaped bag and being all *kawaii peace sign* all over the place you don't look elegant or cute, you look like you're trying too hard to be a child again, when you are obviously not one. Its not just colours, its those huge clip on pigtails!

It gets on my nerves so much. Over the past 2 years the fashion has deteriorated, there are too many weebs now. It annoys me as well when people say 'kawaii-desu' all the time. Like.. everything they see is so kawaii.

I don't think being a cosplayer and a lolita makes you more chill about it either tbh, alot of cosplayers are just as elitist about cosplay as some girls are about lolita

I hate how lolita is just another sub-fashion for ugly/fat people (like goth). It's an extremely feminine, delicate and pretty fashion and yet all I see are greasy awkward girls, man-faced Nordic girls, plain Asians, and refrigerator-shaped brown people. Lolita should attract the most beautiful girls and yet it attracts the ugliest because they think clothes will make them prettier.

I wish the skinny pretty girls that normally wear mainstream fashion would get into lolita.

I think there are few people who look really, really good in OTT sweet Lolita. Not only do you have to have the right look, but you have to be really good at coordinating.

Also, I think super OTT coords are best reserved for meetups and special events. Wearing a more toned-down version for "every day" kind of things is more sensible.

It would be very handy to know who this person was so I could have a one to one with them. Summer is on it's way and I'm very anxious about any issues that may start that don't need to be fueled by secrets.

I think people who wear OTT stuff and those colourful cotton candy wigs look like clowns. Especially when they pile on the make up, wear pastel wigs, circle lenses and lashes
I laugh every time they say it's not a costume. "Just because I wear a clown outfit all the time doesn't mean it isn't still a costume" type of thing

I also think there are certain dresses that look better without a petticoat. Ex: those painted print dresses, they're usually cut the same as normal dresses, just the print is "unusual"

Split wigs look horrible unless it's natural hair colours that are only a few tones off from each other and are blended well.

I think dresses with food prints look retarded. I find it a tad funny when a "bigger" lolita wears one.

I don't like dresses/skirts with corset lacing. especially in the front. They can look ok. But unless you're at a convention or meet up, it's a detail that makes it look very ott in public. So it's a "time and place" detail imo

In regards to ponies, this has nothing to do with lolita but I just... do not understand the hype

I do not understand neckbeards at the back of class bro-hoofing each other

I do not understand the Saturday morning 1000+ post threads on /co/ (no, I'm not making that number up)

I do not understand the constant pony generals, all day, every day. (What the hell is there to talk about? Its an episodic show about ponies.)

I do not understand the plushies that sell for $400

And yes, I have tried to watch the show. I watched it when it first came out. It's a slightly above average, poorly flash animated children's program. That's it.

If anything this attention and popularity deserves to go to Dan vs., a vastly superior show.

I really don't like OTT colored wigs, split wigs, sweet accessories, most food based prints (primarily desserts/sweets... fruit is slightly better, depending on the print), tea party shoes, nor stuffed animal purses.

But, I have no problem making ultra sweet dresses with candy and cake embroidered border prints, and OTT accessories for other people. It's kind of fun to do something that is so far from what I personally like. I've even made MLP things, even though I don't like it (I usually collab with moms making stuff for their kids).
I get really tired of designing for one single style, so I take the insane sweet stuff as a challenge, and focus more on what makes my client happy, and not on what I actually like. This kind of focus makes me really proud of what I make, even though I don't like the style? idk.

The people who dress like this are like something out of a horror movie where some weird old lady placed a curse on the people who tried to rob her, and her doll collection comes to live to exact their revenge on the horny teenagers who wronged her.

Fat, thin, japanese, or weeaboo, it weirds me right the fuck out.

I enjoy the human body way too much to like lolita at all. It seems to come from an era when people were ashamed of their bodies, and covered up as much as they could, obscuring even the basic shapes of the body with layers upon layers of pleated puffy cloth(Probably why the fatties like it). Even with the modern twist, using the short skirts and whatnot, it's almost weirder because it's human parts poking out of something glaringly not human.

I'm not suggesting more fashion should be half naked skin tight slutwear. I just think more modern and contemporary clothing works with the human body, rather than fighting it.

Also, a lot of the makeup is really clowny.

You and the other tall-chan -- what is the big deal? Just get stuff made for you. Brand is not the only option, you know. (Neither is replica for that matter.)
    >> Anonymous 02/07/12(Tue)17:15 No.5466854
People who do punk lolita seem to combine it with sweet or goth, but I'd love to see it done with classic.
    >> Anonymous 02/07/12(Tue)17:25 No.5466898
I don't mind replicas, but I won't buy them myself.
I understand that you may not have the figure/dedication/income for the real deal. That's fine. I just enjoy supporting the producer of the original designs.
I'm that girl who wears solid-color classic dresses, likes looking at prints on other people and still buys CDs...
    /trying to balance my values

I love toned-down and casual AP coords. It reminds me of Betsey Johnson.

I also love bare arms and/or legs in Lolita for the summer.

I love toned down sweet too. :3 It's mostly what I wear. Not too keen on ALL THE STUFF being in my hair..

    Non-/cgl/ goer here.

I fucking hate the name 'lolita' in relation to style, Lolita, the 1955 novel by Vladimir Nabokav, was a book about a middle aged pedophile who refers to himself as Humbert Humbert raping a twelve year old girl. Not about frilly dresses that look like shit.

    This isn't an unpopular opinion

90% of people who don't know about lolita fashion feel this way so... yea, that was a waste of time, bro

My personal style tends to be more towards gothic/classic, but I really enjoy seeing casual AP coords because like I said, it reminds me of one of my favorite designers.

I think even within my own style I tend to be pretty utilitarian. (As much so as you can be with something like lolita, anyway...) I like to wear it whenever appropriate/possible. I also prefer to buy shoes, blouses, bags and accessories that I can wear with my "normal" clothes.

I enjoy split wigs, I have a pastel lavender - white wig, and I find it to be great.
    >> Anonymous 02/07/12(Tue)17:55 No.5467037
Whenever somebody whom I know sees me out and about in lolita, I always tell them I'm in a play. It's happened twice. It made me feel worse than it probably should.

For an unpopular opinion, I dislike gothic lolita moreso than sweet. Aristocrat is much more... Aesthetically pleasing to mine tired eyes.

that wig and hoodie needs to burn

I don't think those shoes go very well considering there's barely any yellow. would work better if colors were reversed

    Wig, no

Shoes... maybe. If she somehow incorporated yellow into the rest of the outfit they could have worked

As far as the cardigan, it looks like a cheap hoodie :<

I like sleeveless cutsews and bare/mostly bare legs in the summer.

It seems like AP in particular has such a wide selection of summer-friendly cutsews. I wish it were easier to find classic and gothic stuff in the same vein. I'm going to boil when summer comes.

I love it when people get their panties in a twist over replicas. As it's been established with rabbit777, and other various idiots, it's the biggest itas that whine the most about offbrand.
    >> Anonymous 02/07/12(Tue)19:53 No.5467703
Confession : I secretly want to be really popular online. But, I know it's a stupid thing to want. I have social anxiety issues, and I feel rejected if I'm not being constantly sought after and praised. At least I know that it's weird and stupid.

Unpopular Opinion : Idiot older lolitas are worse than the super young newbies. At least they have the excuse of ignorance and immaturity. I hate all of the older girls in my comm. They constantly blunder up meetups, and have just made a mess of things. Now I have to organize everything so they won't fuck it up. I can't wait to move and join an organized comm.

I love when I get posted in secrets. It's a rarity, but I'm surprised it hasn't happened more with some of the things I've said and the material they've been given. I think there is one or more people though that hate me since I noticed some of my smaller remarks getting picked on, but that's alright, I love knowing that someone thinks of me enough to hate me.

There's never been a secret about me. I'm really surprised by this, especially since I tend to get into arguments rather often and don't go anon.
