    22 KB Maryland / East Coast Cosplay Magical Machete 01/01/12(Sun)07:17 No.5302078
    So, I'm moving to Maryland in the Spring and wanted to know of the good cons or just awesome cosplay related crap in the surrounding area.
    I've heard Otakon is awesome, but I honestly don't know much about American Conventions... Help?
    >> Anonymous 01/01/12(Sun)08:08 No.5302106
    Otakon is the big East Coast convention, it's huuuuuge and extremely crowded. Personally I've never been because I just don't really like large events like that, but people I know that have gone say it's really a different kind of experience.

    If you like average sized conventions instead, Anime USA and Katsucon are the two most well known and Katsucon is at a beautiful location. It's worth going just for the photoshoot opportunities alone. Anime USA is getting a larger venue next year and it's a really friendly atmosphere and has its own maid cafe and host club.

    Ah I see. Thanks for the info! ^ ^
    The only convention in the US I have been to was Ohayocon last year... I'm not sure how I felt about the actual convention cause I was still in culture shock because I've been living in Korea for so long. ;;;;
    As for Katsucon and Anime USA, about how many people attend? The cons I'm used to have around 1,000 - 2,000 people maximum at any time, but it's mostly outdoors and occurs around 6-8 times a year so it doesn't seem too crowded because of the size and frequency...

    Katsucon? 7,264 and growing.

    Anime USA? About 4,000 people the last time I checked.

    I can tell you more about these conventions if you want?

    Sure. ^ ^
    My biggest question is if it's worth buying a badge/mandatory to buy a badge for these cons?
    At Ohayocon, I bought a badge, but didn't use it once. It was tucked away the entire weekend... waste of money. ; A;

    If I should get one, how much do they usually run for and what's the gap in price between pre-reg and at-the-door passes?

    Im heading to bed, but Im sure this thread will survive somewhere on these 15 pages provided PT doesn't resurface with new dramu or something... So, I'll be back in the AM.

    Anime USA is a mid sized convention. It's best known for it's concerts. Katsucon, well known for it's community the old-school arcades, and now for it's Xbox Hueg hotel, but for some reason it's more rowdy.

    As for badges: For Katsucon, it's worth it for the dealers room, artist gallery, video game room, and for the main events. Anime USA, definitely.

    With Katsucon I would say it's worth it just for the game room, dealer's room and artist alley. You can just really walk around the hotel the con is in and see the cosplays and what not. Be warned though the staff of the Gaylord get annoyed with antics easily.

    AUSA is 100% worth the price of the convention. Especially since if you resister for the con by like May/June its only like $25 for the whole weekend. And there is always something to do. It's one of my favorite conventions and the fact that it is moving to somewhere larger makes me really excited, because it was starting to get really cramped.

    Otakon I always have a lot of fun at. I would recommend going to it because the convention pretty much has a whole lot of what people go to conventions for.

    Baltimore Comic Con, Annapolis Comic Con, Katsucon, Otakon, Tigercon, Balticon, ect.
    Most cons in MD are small, Otakon is the biggest. I personaly dont like Otakon. A good amount of comic book stores around here hold cosplay events for movie premires, comic book releases, and Free Comic Book day. There is also a Star Wars themed con but im not sure what its called... I know there is always some kind of cosplay meet up once a month with a few groups. Most things in MD are small and local, thats why I USED to hit up mostly VA cons, but they are super drama filled from my point of view.
