Just wondering /cgl/, is cosplaying your first convention the norm or not?

If not, how many cons did it take before you cosplayed?
If so, what was it like doing something like that when you weren't experienced with cons?

I didn't cosplay until my second convention. Even then it was just some generic school uniform I bought like a noob from Cosmates that cost me twice the price it was worth.

I didn't cause I didn't have my costume ready, but if you want to, just do it. I cosplayed at my 2nd con though.

I didn't cosplay because I didn't have any idea what to expect/what to cosplay. I did at the next one though!

If you're going with friends who are cosplaying, I say go for it.
I didn't cosplay my first time since I'm a pussy. I wasn't sure what to expect: how many people would cosplay, how non-cosplayers would react to cosplayers, what.
I sort of regretted it, but I had a fun time anyway. My friends got stopped for pictures a lot and got into conversations with random people. They made a couple new friends. I was a little jealous, but they were visibly tired sometimes when someone asked for a picture. We always felt so bad turning someone down if we were rushing somewhere.

I got comfortable at the convention a lot faster than I expected myself to. It's a great environment.
When I wandered away from my friends, I got some people approaching me to chat. It was nice.

I cosplayed for my second convention, and that also was fun.

If you're brazen and with friends, I'd say you should cosplay. You might feel a little awkward the first couple hours as you get into the groove of it, but it'll work out.
If you're a little shy and/or are going by yourself, wait until the second/third day to cosplay, or wait until your second con.

So cosplaying means I get approached for random chats and pictures? Doesn't sound very appealing.

Thanks for all the help though

All you've communicated here is that you don't like opening yourself up to new experiences. Why not, anon?

I'm fine with new experiences, but I don't like new people. The people I know now are too much sometimes.

Also I hate having my picture taken.

Then you should probably avoid cosplaying if you can't deal with people and/or having them all over you.

I didn't cosplayed until my fourth convention (Anime USA 2007.) I was cosplaying as Kensuke Aida from the Eva series.

To be honest, I think it's 50 percent of a chance that someone will cosplay at their first convention.

I cosplayed at my first con, but it was all closet cosplays.
They weren't bad, since I did my research on cosplay and things a few months prior, but theyweren't spectacular or anything.
    No regrets.

    Damn spacebar.

    I cosplayed my second con.

I'm really glad I didn't cosplay my first con. I was only 13, and even though it was one of the smallest cons I've ever been to, I was so unbelievably overwhelmed. I can't imagine having worn a costume and dealing with the associated attention. My little heart would have given out.
