52 KB Too old for this shiz Anonymous 12/31/11(Sat)15:22 No.5299918
Side note: happy new years eve/day

I'm sure this isn't the first time a thread like this has been posted, but at what age is it time to hang up the cosplays for good?

I've hit 25 and when i go to conventions now, most of the people i cross are way younger than me and like (or cosplay) animes that I'm not into (and occasionally haven't heard of.) I find it hard to converse with these people, due to the fact that im probably 5-10 yrs older than them. (not saying i dislike them though)

Have any of you made the decision to quit cosplaying or to avoid cons all together? To be honest it's starting to feel pretty silly walking around in a costume, when it seems like everyone else I know takes themselves seriously as adults and looks down on the idea of cosplaying. Any thoughts?

I'm "older" than you, but still go to cons all the time with my friends. I think there are a lot of older people who go to cons. I say do whatever makes you happy, cons aren't everything

Cosplay is supposed to be something you do because you love it. If you don't love it, stop doing it. If you're ashamed of loving it, then you need to grow the fuck up and stop acting like real life is high school where everyone cares about all your weird little hobbies.
    >> Mitsuki 12/31/11(Sat)15:36 No.5299963
Well OP have you tried attending any sci-fi conventions, those have a older and mature crowd. But if you feel you've outgrown cons and cosplaying in general, then maybe it is time you just put down cosplay and focus on other things. Cons will always be around so maybe taking a break from them could be good for you.

Ive only cosplayed a few times, but i still think cons are a great place to go for people who like anime, games etc. I mostly just volunteer now, rather than just going to "hang out"

I heard dragon con is a great. I have to find a way to go from california to atlanta for the next one though..
    >> Anonymous 12/31/11(Sat)15:41 No.5299982
Are you kidding, OP? I've seen people of all ages at cons, and it's not like the older ones stand out - Hell, if anything, I've seen people in their 30s and 40s with amazing outfits.

Last play i had, i acted a fusion of god Shiva and his consort Parvati.

Pic Related. I'm in the front row, in blue. In front of the guy that is painted all blue.

She's only in one arc of the anime. After about volume 7 in the novels (anime is based on volumes 1-3) is where she starts getting crazy...er, crazier.

I'm thirty and still cosplay. I do it because I enjoy it not because I care the age of the people at the con. If you have some solid friends with you then it shouldn't matter how old the rest of the crowd is. Where I work everyone knows I cosplay and I have people who never heard of it come ask me about costumes and conventions because their son/daughter etc are into it but they can't understand what goes on from their perspective. Often times they come back a couple months later to tell me they had a blast and want to try making a costume themselves.

is that like the same shiva god from final fantasy? nice costumes btw

no..it's actually the hindi god shiva...the one that inspired shiva from Final Fantasies. it was a hindi themed play..i told here on cgl a while ago. It's based on the legend "way of Savitri". too bad the actress that played Savitri was a bitch....and fucking dumb also.

Also, please notice I'm 2 in one, just like the 2 other godesses: "brahma/saraswati"(the one in the middle- red) and "vishnu/lakshmi"(the one in yellow). pretty good stuff the story.

Check out 21+ cons, like Nauticon in Massachusetts.

I'm so psyched for this con, you have no idea. It's not even about the booze, it's about a con for fucking adults and not today's awful, socially-retarded 15 year olds.

My friend is 34 and cosplays with her kids sometimes. She's actually gonna dress her kids like Phineas and Ferb and be their mom.
    >> Anonymous 12/31/11(Sat)16:18 No.5300096
You just need to attend different cons op. I agree with dragoncon and and 21+ cons. Also sci-fi cons are good too. I know that feeling when you just can't connect with anyone and suddenly feel out of place/ wondering why you still do what you do.

cool, that must be an interesting career/hobbie. ill have to brush up on my hindi legends though, because i never heard any before lol
    >> Anonymous 12/31/11(Sat)16:31 No.5300129
I'm 24 and I still regularly go to cons. I have plenty friends my own age who I hang out with and I basically just go to cosplay then hit up the bars later.

I'm aware of the rampant 15 year olds, but I just don't interact with them really and have no reason to. They have an entirely different agenda than I so we stay completely separated. I've never felt "too old" for cosplay or cons.
