so with a con coming up i was wondering if we can have a creepy photographer thread.
    Who are they?
    how to avoid them?
how to deal with them when they ask to shoot with you?
share any stories of your experiences with them.

lol "creepy photographers"? How exactly are photographers at cons creepy?

"OMG HE ASKED ME TO POSE FOR HIM I THINK HE WANTS TO RAPE ME!" This shit has nothing to do with them being "creepy", it's just you being socially awkward around men and believing it's acceptable to persecute guys at cons for being sexual deviants despite them never doing a thing to you.
    >> Anonymous 12/28/11(Wed)20:05 No.5289272
Why would you have to "avoid" a photographer if all they want to do is take your picture?

Even if in the off chance they are creepy perverted weirdos in their personal life that shouldn't concern you. You dressed up in costume for the con with the intention of having photos taken of you so stop being a cunt about it. No one is going to hurt you.
    >> greygoose !!rO2M7zzRmlj 12/28/11(Wed)20:07 No.5289282
I think now that cosplay photography is actually more popular and there legit photographers out there, it is a lot less likely you'll find creepy photographers. More than likely you'll find real photographers, hobbyists, and just average fans. And its the average fans that can be the creepiest.
To get right down too it, if your not comfortable with a pose they suggest then say no, and thank them for their time.

Define "creepy photographer". What do they do that is so creepy? Do they whip their dick out while you pose for them? Try to give you a massage while you get in position?

I'm having trouble understanding how some girls think the process of seeing a cosplayer at a con and asking for a photo can somehow procure a situation where you fear for your safety.

People don't judge you for being a weirdo adult woman who goes to convention dressed up like cartoon characters to try to gain attention, so how about cutting down on the judgmentality on others.

Lol EBK is a little awkward but he seems pretty harmless. It's kind of funny how he'll have like a million pictures of girls in revealing costumes but like no guys. But he does take a shitload of pictures at a con, which I appreciate if I can't go to the con.

I've met a few awkward people who kept wanting photos of me but I usually just shake them off. They're not usually the ones with a lot of camera gear or DSLRs though, just people with regular point n shoots or just taking photos with their phone.

I don't think you understand that concept of creepy. It doesn't mean dangerous or frightening. It is someone, who with actions or words, puts you in an awkward environment, sexual or otherwise. It could be by leering, touching, invading personal space, or saying things that are not appropriate.
A creepy photographer doesn't have to make a girl or boy feel as if they are in danger to be called creepy. Nor does an average creepy fan.
A person won't call you creepy by simply hitting on them, it is more than that. And I think the line between flirting and creeping is different for every person.

I've never had trouble with a photographer acting creepy.
If they suggest something I'm not comfortable doing then I offer a similar alternative.

    Example: "Kiss your friend!"
"Well how about we do a lean-in shot instead?"

I've only ever had one photographer that I've ever been so disgusted with that I almost kicked him down the stairs we were standing on. He was favoring my friend a little too much [in a way that visibly made her uncomfortable and she later said something about it.]

However the line was drawn when he put his hands on us. She wasn't comfortable doing a full on lip contact photo, so we did a lean-in shot. Well while our eyes were closed for the shot, he reached in and grabbed us both by the back of our heads and tried to force us to kiss.

Shit almost went down. [Luckily a lot of people came into the area at that point to which he went back to being...slightly normal].

I think I once 'creeped' on a guy cosplaying Isaac from Deadspace. I'm a normal weight, average looking chick so I hope I at least didn't come off as creepy.

I'm pretty socially awkward, so I asked him for some pics timidly, snapped a few and scampered away. I passed by him again later in a con and saw him doing different pose for some other photographers and I took some pics as well. I saw him a few more times as I walked around the con and I kept taking more when I saw him. It only occurred to me afterwards I must've seemed horribly creepy to him.

I also asked a dude for some pics but he was busy so while I waited I took some pics from afar, and uh, some of them was of his butt because he had some interesting detail work going on there that I wasn't sure a full body shot could capture.

I've also taken pics of people while they were unawares, like chilling on steps or whatever. I mean they looked great just natural like that and not posing.

    yeah. I'm a lady creeper ._.

lol so all a guy at a con has to do is say something you don't like and that's enough to label as a "creeper"? You're fucking retarded.

We're talking about guys taking photos of people. Not guys following you back to your hotel room. Stop acting like your rights have been violated just because someone approached you at a con.
    >> Anonymous 12/28/11(Wed)20:36 No.5289422
EBK has always been friendly and polite to me, and while many of his pictures aren't great some have been lovely.

I feel like the odd one out in generally being pleased and flattered whenever ANYONE wants to take my picture at a con. Sometimes you can tell they're not going to turn out, or the guy is a little odd but at the end of the day... it's a pleasant ego-boost and a reward to know that someone appreciates your hard work enough to want to photograph it.

These are anime conventions, pretty much every fan is a slightly socially retarded nerd. Of course the majority of photographers and people who come up to you and pay compliments will seem a little off. Sometimes all it takes is a thank you for a photo from a nervous geek to make someone's day.

On the other hand Tom Savage is honestly one of the most vile and perverse men I have ever met.

When people in this thread mean "creepy photographers" they don't mean "I think it's creepy people want photos of me in cosplay" I believe it's more like "creepy people who make me uncomfortable who takes photos of me"

You can't claim there isn't a certain social etiquette to be followed when photographing other people.

I had a run in with agentsakur9. He seemed alright at first but during the shoot he got creepy.
I was 16 at the time and my boyfriend was right there and he kept hitting on me which I found awkward and creepy considering his age and that my obviously way more attractive boyfriend was right there. I don't like when photographers do it just for the "chicks" or to
Get sexy pictures to fap to later. I don't feel like creepy photographers do it to get that image to be proud they got.

Interesting how guys decide they're the ones to define what's creepy.
A lot of the time, if someone has this nagging suspicion something isn't right or they feel 'creeped out' by someone, they can say they felt it was creepy...

This is a thread on creepy photographers- the one's who MADE YOU FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE.
So the stories are good, & if there are any potential photographers posting on here who feel its unjust, tell us your protocol. To you, when does a photographer go too far?
& I believe there are photo-whore cosplayers out there, but a lot of us aren't comfortable with sexy poses & revealing shots... Also- I like to know where my picture ends up.
Anyone with a large enough lens asking for pictures had better also have a business card. Aside from that, i assume pics are for a personal collection & half the time I'm too busy running around having fun in a con to do anything aside from a fun quick pose anyway, so I've never been creeped out by photographers.

    >>5289527
    Yup, that counts as creepy
    >> Anonymous 12/28/11(Wed)21:07 No.5289571
Don't judge by appearances, first of all. Judge by what they do.

If they want you to move to another spot for a shoot, that's okay, but make sure it's open and public and you can be easily seen. If they try to make you go somewhere you don't feel totally comfortable with, say you don't like that spot and suggest another. This goes double if you're on your own. But try to stick with a friend and have them tag along if you're being photographed. And talk to the friend beforehand about what to do if either of you is dealing with a creeper.

The most important thing is being firm. This doesn't make you a bitch. If they try to get you to do poses you're not comfortable with, say you're not entirely comfortable doing that. Or adjust the pose to something you are okay with. If you tell a photographer you're uncomfortable with anything and they don't immediately understand and back off, you're not dealing with a good photographer.

This is really the best you can do. To sum up:
    1. Buddy system.
    2. Open, public locations unless you're with people you trust.
    3. Be firm, say no if you need to, if they're overly persistent and won't drop it, just walk away.

EBK was at his creepiest back around the early 2000's so I hear. Since then he's toned it down a bit but he's more subtle about it. I've seen him repeatedly urge girls to kiss, including some friends who later said they felt like he put them on the spot so they did it to get him to leave. A few times he's done the classic "down the shirt" angle on girls who were in fact crossplaying. Oh and when he shows you the photos he takes of you? He uses it as an excuse to look down your shirt. I think some anon a while back said that he was sniffing around girls who were 10+ years younger than him not that long ago. You notice the creepiness a lot more if you're local to him in norcal from what a friend tells me.

Yeah that's nice that he takes your photo at every con, it's what he does at every convention. But that doesn't mean he's a decent person.

    >no one is going to hurt you

Going through life assuming you won't be victimized is the absolute BEST way to get yourself in trouble. You know those stories that get posted here all the time about sexy Yoko cosplayers flipping their shit and saying they were creeped on even though some guy just nicely asked for a photo? Those are HEAVILY exaggerated. Some cosplayers over-react and unjustly accuse people of being creepers, but those people are a tiny minority. Most of us are polite about having our pictures taken and only comment on someone being creepy if they do anything to set off warning flags.

If someone is giving you a bad feeling, you don't need to freak out and report them to security, but for heaven's sake, trust your gut feeling. Politely extricate yourself from the situation if you can. Safe is better than sorry.

And I know creeper photogs are also a minority, but I'm not about to pretend they don't exist.

How is it creepy? It's not like I'm taking photos without their knowledge. they're in a situation in which a bunch of people are taking photos with their permission. I don't see how what lens I choose to use dictates if my behavior is "creepy" or not.

I'm not trying to slide under them for an upskirt, I'm not asking them to take on a compromising pose, I'm not taking a photo without their knowledge. I'm using a lens that gives me the option to get closer or further shots without having to fumble with a lens change during the shoot.

    1. If a guy was actually looking to "creep" on you or molest you, having another dopey friend nearby isn't going to do anything.
    2. Also don't accept any candy or get into any vans.
    3. I'd love to hear about what pose "suggestions" are so bad that a person should feel uncomfortable with them. Did a photographer ask you to strip nude or plant your prop between your butt cheeks? Cosplayers are so modest after all, going to conventions showing tits and cleavage to the world.

I've been photographed by EBK dozens of times and I don't find him creepy. He's shy and a little awkward. The only thing he does that I find kinda funny is he ALWAYS asks for shots of "the back of your costume"...as an excuse to take pictures of your butt. But hey, the man likes butts. And it's not like he zooms in on it or something.
Something I thought was very gentlemanly of him-my friend had to fix my garters on one of my costumes, which involved pulling up my skirt. He looked away while she did it.

Attached is a classic example of one of his "from behind" photos-but even I have to admit that my butt looks really good in that costume.

See, I didn't know that at all. I always feel really awkward with anyone other than the usual "one picture and they're gone" types. The photographers with the good cameras that want more than one photo just make me embarrassed because I'm not sure what they'd like me to do and usually they don't give me any posing ideas or anything or explain what they're doing. I'd love for a photographer to just guide me a little and explain the process while they're doing it to form a connection with me. It's a lot more relaxing than just wondering when they'll be done so I can hurry off to a corner to hide in embarrassment.

If he's hellbent on targeting you, no, it won't do anything unless your friend is a trained fighter. But a mild deterrent do wonders to those who are only somewhat motivated.

    >Also don't accept any candy or get into any vans.

    >I'd love to hear about what pose "suggestions" are so bad that a person should feel uncomfortable with them.
That is not for me to decide, everyone can think for themselves. Some people don't mind simulating sex in public, some don't want to show ankles.

    >Common sense would usually tell you that a guy who asks you for a photo in a public setting is not going to pose a danger.

No, as I said it's not creepy at all.
I am also aware that I have a nice butt, and thus tend to wear butt-flattering costumes.
He does it with everyone, not just me. I don't find it creepy, just funny, as I was going through albums and noticed that he had taken the same butt-shot in every one of my costumes.

He's also very cool in that he sends me every single one of the photos straight off his camera, good and bad.

There are many reasons why we would take only one photo of a person. One of them might be tired or headed somewhere. It's a little tougher to do a proper shoot like this so it's easier to snap a photo and let them go.

When I take photos of cosplayers I usually ask about what kinds of poses they know. I may know the series they're cosplaying from but there's a chance I don't know it too well or haven't seen it in years. I can only suggest generic poses that aren't specific to the character. A good thing would be to describe your character and how they act with anyone else in your group and you can come up with poses/ideas together. With communication, there are more interesting photos taken.

    >Asked to pretend to run further up the staircase we were on and pretend to trip on the stairs while the photographer was on the steps below me. Was wearing a skirt at the time.

Some requests that normally don't set off your possibly creepy meter suddenly do when you're wearing different costumes. It all depends on the cosplayer's level of modesty and their costume.

As a cosplay photographer I have to react to this because I don't see myself as a creeper (I don't "creep" on the cosplayers) but I have asked all of the following

    >Asked to pretend to run further up the staircase we were on and pretend to trip on the stairs while the photographer was on the steps below me. Was wearing a skirt at the time.
    >Asked to kneel on the ground on my knees with my hands between them and lean forward to look up at the camera. Clear shot down my dress which didn't show any cleavage in normal photos.
    >Actually asked to pretend to be mad and do that anime pose where you're stomping on someone laying down, where the photographer was going to actually lay on the floor for it and take pictures from that angle. Would have been fine with it if I hadn't been in a short skirt.

Stair case: Even if the photographer is 3 step under you, he will need to have his camera so low to creep a pantyshoot that he would have his arm fully extended toward the ground or directly be lying torso/face on the ground. Almost every angle higher than that (or being 10 to 15 stair lower) will get the costume and the general context of the picture (and give a nice dynamic shoot, not the avrage-done15000time-barely-in-character pose.

Sitting case: unless you have a huge neck opening in your costume (most likely a cleavage) sitting/kneeling the way you describe will show at most the beginning of your boobs. It also gives a very nice effect of your face and top part of your costume because the effect of pronfondeur (deepness) the position gives to the rest of your body. Ever wonder why some of the pictures of the asian idols show their face so nicely, because of the same optical approach, putting in front the face and shoulder to give a "deep" effect with the rest of the body.

Revealing outfits? No, not everyone. Attention and photos? Well duh.

Why would you call yourself a cosplayer, as in costume play, and not expect attention for modeling your clothes and trying to be like a character people recognize? Even if you go with the inherently flawed cosplaying = costuming definition, why would you not want recognition for a good job making and assembling your costume after spending time on it? If you didn't want the attention for yourself you would make the costume for someone else to wear around.

Angry stepping case: I like this one (see the one of them @ this year AWA: http://images.4chan.org/cgl/src/1325144480269.jpg ) but I admit that it is a little more tricky, because the position imply the possibility of a pantyshoot (the key word being possibility, not pantyshoot). But even in that case, there is option that can be use: First remember: the closer your are from the photograph, the more likely you will show thing you don't want to show. In that case, its easy: when the photograph in on the ground stand between his legs and but your foot (the one "hitting" him) on his crotch (be careful to not step on them tho, we thank you in advance), you'll be, generally, far enough form his camera to avoid the bad angle (and if he really wanted the pantyshoot he will have to move the camera closer to your legs, more easy to spot)
Second: keep your leg close: the smaller the distance between them, the lesser you'll show stuff, even in miniskirt.
Third: If the shoot/camera is close/very close, have the "attacking" leg not strait, but on the side.
I had this problem one time when I wanted one from a mireille (from NOIR). The cosplayer had a half-tight long skirt (so quite short) and I wanted her foot on my chest. I couldn't get a shoot that did not include a pantyshoot until a made her put one feet next to my love handle, and the other perpendicularly, across my neck (literally). By squeezing a little her leg together we got some awesome "action" shoot, without the panty shoot.

Yes, I have sometime cosplayers(specially females) looking at me like they believe I gonna tackle them in a corner and rape them when I ask for a little more than a smile for the picture, but ironically enough, those same cosplayers are usually the ones complaining on my galleries because, over the hundred of pict I do at each con I go, they can't find themselves.

I only have any issue when it's a really weird case, like... For example, two cosplayers at Otakon this year fell asleep and woke up with a whole group of people, all casual con goers, taking photos of them. I can see why they'd do it, and iirc the cosplayers laughed it off, but it was just sort of weird to hear about.

I dont understand why some people can't comprehend the fact that if you wear a revealing/sexy outfit, people are going to want to photograph you and you may get creeped on.
I've done some skimpy costumes and I was expecting to get creeped on, so when it happened I was able to take it in my stride and laugh it off.
Also you can just say 'No' to a photographer and 9/10 they leave you alone, if not, that's what Security and stewards are there for.

I was directing this more to people who assume all women dress as skanks. Sorry if it didn't come across as such.

I do like the attention of people recognizing the outfit I made...but I do it more for making the outfit. I am not an attention whore with my assets hanging out to attract creepers.

I'm one for letting anyone take my photo when asked; but I can't stand people who don't ask and just take them and run away.

I've had that happen to me when I was taking a nap but the person was nice enough to ask my friend beside me if it was okay before taking a photo.

I've been on the flipside as well. Saw two gorgeous Hetalia cosplayers and one was asleep in the others lap and I wanted a picture so bad but I didn't want to disturb them since they were kind of out of the way by themselves and the one that was awake was focused on them. Really didn't want to break the moment and I didn't want to ninja a photo because then I'd feel bad if they found it because I didn't ask first.

EBK was pretty cool when I met him. I've had TONS of people creepily paparazzi me at cons though. I don't know even know how to deal with that.. but it's a con, so I can understand the stupidity a little more.

What I REALLY hate are the people paparazzing me or bothering me to take pictures when I'm doing day to day activities in non-con settings. For example, I was eating a burger at a local diner place the other day and a group of people come up to me and significant other to ask for pictures. I appreciate that they actually asked for permission, but I wanted to eat my damn food in peace, so I politely tried to decline by saying "oh, but I'm eating lunch right now.. maybe another time." Instead of taking the hint, they insisted on waiting around for 25 minutes to take my picture when I finish. D:

How do you avoid situations like that? What are your tips to deal with creeper paparazzi-shots?

Come on guys, really? You dress up at conventions. Unless they persist to ask you things you have told them you won't do or are uncomfortable with, don't take it personally. If you don't like having your picture taken then don't dress up. It shouldn't matter what the photog looks like or if they might seem a little weird. You go to cons, you have no right to judge someone for their quirks.

And I've also had a bunch of pics taken by EBK at various cons and he's a bit awkward but not at all a creeper, he's actually really nice.

    What
I use my 70-200 for headshots and shoulder and up shots (great for compression, depending on the lens you may get better isolation too)
and times when I can't get close enough (panels)
Shit even sitting in the first row at some panels is still not ideal to photograph the guests depending on the room size and distance
    And concerts, obvious uses

Some people seem to prefer to use it though. How does what lens you choose define you as a creeper? I mean using those lenses for like, unsuspecting far away stalker photos ok, but it seems to me to be photographer's choice otherwise.

(don't know much about lenses myself but shit, I wouldn't brand someone as a creeper because of their lens unless they were doing something creeperish)

There is no reason I "have" to use it for hall shots. It's "because I want to." Do I have to use the 70-200 for a headshot? No, I don't. I could use the long end of my 24-105. Or I could use a 85 1.2. Speaking of the 1.2, do I need it? No, I could have bought the 85 1.8 or a Sigma 85 1.4 and saved a lot of money and gained a very similar shot minus some depth of field. The difference between 1.2 and 1.8 isn't even a full stop and while every bit can help it's not a huge factor considering the price gap between the two, and if you're using a flash/off camera lighting, shutter speed becomes a moot point.

This is as generic a shot I could find using the 70-200. I rented mine. I'm thinking of buying one.

I used it as my second body's lens with the first body having the 24-105 on it for full body or anything I needed that range for. 70-200 mainly for headshots in that environment.
    >> Anonymous 12/30/11(Fri)00:42 No.5293353
Unless the con is super crowded it's actually pretty easy to find the space to take photos. Besides, lots of cons prohibits taking any photos in narrow hallways because it blocks traffic.

In addition, 18-55mm kit lenses are mediocre and the next lens people get is usually a decent-quality zoom lens. Because it's better than the kit lens it's hardly surprising if aspiring photographers try and use it as much as possible. More experienced photographers also like zooms because photos taken from 4-5 meters away yield the most natural-looking faces.

It's really annoying that there are people who will bitch and raise a fuss over NOTHING when it comes to "creepy photographers". My male partner in his early thirties, who is your typical fix-computers-for-a-living-geek, has been doing casual con photos for years. He gets photos of everyone he can if they're in costume, roaming the event and onstage cosplay events, uploads everything that isn't terrible, and his gallery is a really useful resource for cosplayers in our country. Recently he got heckled by some douchebag for taking a picture of a Stocking cosplayer who happened to be attractive and have a short skirt. She was cool (and called douchebag out on le douchiness) but jesus fucking christ. Not every man with a camera is collecting fap material, ladies...and has anyone pointed out that some girls will take your photo just to bitch about it? Amateur photographer here who feels the need to say something in this matter. This is also my first post on this board.

I rarely make photos outside of cons and I'm very awkward around people so I might look like a creep. I might also take pictures of you without your knowledge from revealing angles -altough I've never done it so far-, but that would be just for the "lulz". I wouldn't fap to it because I'm long over 3D and I wouldn't upload it on the net because I'm not an ass. I rarely care about the cosplayer, I'm interested in the character she is cospaying and the quality of her/his outfit. I live in a small country too, so rumors spread fast and those are not something I'd want.

Anyway, at cons most of the time I'm literally "hunting" for cosplayers. I usually ask them for a photo, never for a specific pose. I don't give compliments or anything, maybe this is a mistake, but it takes tremendous amount of courage to just ask them at random in the first place. Then I proceed falling down on my knees, because I'm 2 metres tall and -as somebody have already said it before me- the best is to focus somewhere around the stomach or the breast in the case of a full body photo. I usually take 3 pictures in case my hands got dizzy and maybe more if I caught a group or the cosplayer has some special poses she wants to show. Then I thank their patience and leave. That's my standard procedure.
There are times though when there are already people taking photos of somebody. In times like these I try not to get into the way of those with professional cameras, so I might be stuck on the periphery from a weird angle. I still thank the photos with gestures or whatever that seems appropriate and wouldn't make them lose concentration.

    cont.
    >> Anonymous 12/30/11(Fri)07:43 No.5294141
    >>5294136
    cont.

Nevertheless, it is my policy to always make somebody aware of me making photos of her/him, when possible. It isn't always possible though. Sometimes there is a girl sitting on the stairs drawing something or resting at the base of a tree, asking her would ruin the atmosphere. Also, sometimes I take pictures from the scenery. It's very much possible to catch people standing up and cleaning their butts or doing something similar, but it isn't my intention to capture that. Most of the time I don't even know I've caught something funny going on until I get home and check my loot days after the event.

About the pictures I take. I never upload them to the official sites, despite sometimes doing a very good job and catching people no one else made pictures of. The organisers and the national cosplay site have professional photographers who are given top spots. However, the organisers want general photos about the event and those affiliated with the website make photos from their own people and the ones who participate events. There are a lot of people who just dress up on their own or wear gear they already used in previous cons and only visit the event for half a day. They're the ones I'm mostly making photos of and they're amateurs, not used to photographers, so it's easy to misunderstand each other.
Anyway, I let my friends have my pictures and they're free to upload them anywhere, which they do to semi-obscure places.

Bottom line is, when you're cosplaying at a con -and even when you're not- expect to have people look at you and have dirty thoughts about you. It's one of the nerdiest and most sexually repressed hobbies after all and if you want to buy stuff here you either order it from abroad or go to a con where every shop in the country has a stand. Brings all kinds of people together.

If you don't want to do what the photographer wants, tell him. If he still insists on it, ask him why. If you still don't want to do it then leave or offer a similar pose. The worst you can do is to stay quiet and misunderstand things.

I offer shoots on occasion and I have collaborated with many known cosplayers and photographers. One time I offered a girl at a con who looked a little new to cosplay some free photos. She also had some friends with her who were more than welcome to join, but decided to meet up with her later. I also had a small crew of lighting assistants including a girl to help.

She said she was really thankful and flattered. I posted them online on a few places including my FB fan page. One day I noticed one of pictures had a comment saying "Oh this is soooo beautiful!" and then the comment was mysteriously deleted 30 minutes later. I checked the cosplayers FB and saw one of her friends post something like "Hah I almost commented on that guys fb. So glad I deleted that shit quick!!" by the same commenter. Then upon further inspection I saw the commenter making some rather... inappropriate comments about me on the cosplayers fb. Saying things along the lines of "Those photos were so worth him taking advantage of your body!".

Even though the cosplayer didn't say anything negative about or towards me, but the fact they were condoning this was enough for me to take the photos down, block them, and refuse any future services.

There's a dude down here named Squidy that takes his pictures with cosplayers holding one of his various squid plushies. An old friend of mine thinks he's horrifying, I think he's funny and wish he'd take at least one pic of me.

I've never had an issue with creepy photographers. There are some I wouldn't want to stick around and chat with, since they are a bit off putting. But I wouldn't consider them creepy for wanting photos of me.

Not so much creepy, just funny:
    >Middle aged man: "Oh wow, my daughter would love to see a picture of you, can I take one?"
    >"Oh sure, that's fine."
    >Takes picture.
    >"Oops...I didn't get your head in this one, but it's food enough."

Full Frame. Lots of people with D700s and 5DIIs now. I agree that a 70-200 didn't make much sense on a 1.5x or 1.6x camera, but on the FF you've gotta shoot at 105 or 135 to get a decent portrait even at reasonable distances.

Not that I shoot in hallways myself, though. I only do staged shoots and not grab shots so it's not really an issue.

My vote for creep of the thread is Brucer007 or whatever he goes by. Not only does the guy do pantyshots, he posts them and refuses to take them down when asked. I once saw him say that "if you can see a cosplayer's panties, it's because she wants you to and it's OK to take pictures" in a coscom thread.

bitch, please. short focal-length lenses have distortion that makes people look like shit. Its why the "arms length facebook shot" always looks invariably terribad.

135mm is considered the standard for professional portraits. you MIGHT be able to get good results with an 85, but good luck with that.

    >now riddle me this, how far back to you have to be to be in focus?

if you mean minimum focus distance, my 70-200 has a MFD of 1.2 meters. If you mean how far away I have to stand to /frame/ correctly, that entirely depends on what sort of picture I wanted to take. Usually I would stand about 5-10 feet away for an upper body shot, which is more than manageable when I'm on the con floor.

The photographers here in Melbourne are downright filthy creepers. I've only started doing cosplay photography this year but as a guy I've always been professional with what I do and my equipment (aside from my small jump from Canon to Nikon) and thats why cosplayers will ask me to do shoots with them and not the other photographers.
