I've just made an account, submitted a picture, put the character's name in the search box but the series my character is from isn't coming up. I don't seem to be able to add this to their database or advance without selecting something. Very annoying.

I signed up (need something to do while being sick after Christmas) and well...

It's possibly promising so far, but I've already run into several of my costumes for which I couldn't upload photos because their series or character wasn't in the database. All the JoJo stuff so far that I've tried was in there (and there were listings for most of them both under the individual JoJo arc as well as general JoJo), but I can't get Hatoful Boyfriend, Dorohedoro, iDOLM@STER 2, or Homestuck (lol despite the fandom I figured it was worth a shot to test the system) as series options, despite knowing for a fact that Cure has all of those as series options except Homestuck. I figured it was just using the romanized Cure database due to a few bits of odd romanization I found, but there's no explanation for having iDOLM@STER Dearly Stars and iDOLM@STER SP as options but not "iDOLM@STER 2", seeing as how popular it is... It might be like Cure where you can only add characters or series if you are using the Japanese version (which is a pain in the ass sometimes), or they could have some weird romanizations making the series hard to find. There's no way to contact them about it either, so...

Anyway, I like to have at least a partially filled account on all the cosplay sites I know, just in case, so why not?

okay yeah I figured out the iDOLM@STER 2 bug and this is going to make searching a bit tricky. It does use some of the same strange romanizations that Cure does (Kikuti instead of Kikuchi), but more importantly, if you search for iDOLM@STER, you'll get iDOLM@STER Dearly Stars but NOT for some reason iDOLM@STER2; the listing doesn't have a space and the search is incapable of parsing partial match results.

I'm experiencing some weird stuff on searches for some series, photos showing up twice with the same link etc, but... well, already more properly-functioning than cosplay.com lol. You can at least see what the photos are from the thumbnails.

Does anybody know if the "world cosplayer ID" thing that lets you get a custom URL is fan-based or time-based? I got the option just now, but I'm not sure if it's because enough people clicked that they liked my photos or if it's because I was a member for "long" enough.

Oh no, I actually managed to get it myself, but the option didn't show up at all on my page whatsoever until about 30 seconds before I made that post! You definitely don't want to make a typo on this, though, since it isn't changeable after you get the option (I tried just out of curiosity).

I am pretty sure accessing that requires completing all the steps on that five step thing they want you to do at the top, now that I think about it, because I got the option right after I finished clearing that out.

Then again they also said something about 'blah blah kanji 6 blah blah" in the box for your world cosplayer ID thing, but "hanyaan" is more than 6 letters and it took, so IDFK.

you are talking about a site made by cure owners. that website that had a guestbook and open commenting options that enigmatically dissappeared when westerners started to register there.

westerners = trolls. if they allow comments, it would be optional to disable them. or maybe they just allow PM. of course, they should leave the option to block people to avoid trolls if they allow any kind of comments.

I think the point of the system being kinda tricky to learn is that the people who usually post shit lose interest because they don't just hit submit and call it a day. It kind of keeps quality higher, but obviously it's not foolproof.

I don't think you can blame /cgl/ entirely for this. People have been promoting the site on their own publicly like on their tumblrs, blogs, FB, DA etc. and that means anyone can see it and follow the links to join.

I wish you could change the order of your submissions showing up, below your rec'd photo. I sub'd a few of my older photos last and would much rather have some of the others sitting there.

I still dont understand the ranking system! I've been keeping an eye on my ranking and I cant figure out what makes it go up.

But frankly the ranking system is the only thing i DONT like. sites like tumblr tried ranking and it failed. If they replaced the ranking system with a comment system i'd be a lot happier.

How does this place compare to ACP feature wise? I know that ACP's biggest weakness is the $20 fee to upload more than 5 pictures of the same costume but I love the sight for it's high resolution photo uploads and the ability to tag/search photos by series, convention and year they were cosplayed at.

It seems ACP is still trying to break free from Coscoms shadow so it's gonna take some effort for WorldCosplay.net to overtake both coscom and ACP.

I think Worldcosplay is going to surpass ACP, because it's so friendly to use if you dont speak english. ACP is mostly north americans, while WorldCosplay is available in a wide variety of languages, so it's more welcoming - Something that ACP, Cure, and CosCom really do lack.

CosCom will still probably dominate sine it's got things like a forum and marketplace, but frankly imo ACP doesnt have a lot going for itself.

ACP is a ton better for sorting, management, photo tagging and focus on costumes. Great for uploading and finding con photos. Sadly little community, unused forum.

I like how user-friendly the site is, and the fact that uploading a picture only takes a minute or two as opposed to 5-10 minutes like on Cos.com or DA. (I don't have to go searching for members' ID numbers or type up a whole fancy description and all that jazz.) I also really like the Favorite system, and overall the whole layout of the site. It's very clean-looking as opposed to Cos.com which is just kind of a mismatched jumble of coding at this point.

I think a comment system would be nice, if only on just the photos. It's cool that interacting with cosplayers from around the world is a lot easier on this site, but being able to actually communicate with them would be awesome too, haha!

The ranking system is also pretty confusing, I'm not sure how I feel about it. Cosplay's already ridiculously competitive as it is, and having "rankings" thrown in your face is a little daunting. Finally the front page moves so quickly with uploads that I feel like I'm missing tons of stuff that I won't be able to see unless I search for it specifically. But maybe that'll change once the site calms down a bit? Who knows.
