I'm from Vancouver.
The only convention I ever look forward to is Sakura Con.
Tsukino
Con is fun only for the actual trip over to the island and to visit
friends/family while I'm there. It's just too small and early-teen
orientated for my tastes. Most of the contests/events are quite
embarrassing to watch as well.
Cos & Effect is fun only to
support the local community and the folks that put it on. There was
nothing content-wise that was interesting to me in the least. Most of
their successful events came from other anime conventions, which I found
odd since they were trying to deviate from the anime/gaming convention
scene.
Anime Evolution was fun mostly just to hang out outside,
take photographs and mingle. It was always the most laid back convention
I have gone to. Shame it went belly-up, though I suppose it had to.
Anime
Revolution I have a hard time forming a positive opinion about, not
only from their choice in name, but I made the mistake of reading their
FAQ section and nearly facepalmed myself into non-existence after
reading why they chose their original colours and used the Pokemon font
in their main logo. I just can't take it seriously. I do hope that even
though they purposefully scheduled their event to take attention away
from Cos & Effect next year that they're successful as an anime
convention, since Vancouver clearly needs one.
Ever since Aka-kon
we haven't been able to hold on to a convention worth crap down here.
Hence, I jump the border for my yearly convention dose. |
