But if she really does try at least she's ACTUALLY going for something. She does have a goal. Which is good.

I've never heard her pronunciation, but she can easily learn grammar/kanji/vocab from a book, and there are plenty of good ones. However, this is not a good way to learn conversational Japanese, idioms, pronunciation, slang, everyday questions, etc. She would need to take a class (my community college offers a few, her might as well) or find a native speaker to practice with. And not learn from anime--most anime doesn't reflect how everyday speech is conducted in Japan. Some does, but you also have to take into account regional accents. Kansai-ben and Kyoto-ben are different from the Tokyo dialect in weird ways, and that's rarely something you can learn from a book.

This is unrelated, but Rosetta Stone is pretty overrated...or at least, it was for me when I was trying to learn Spanish. I know that a lot of people think that translation's not a good way to learn a language, but you have to know the theory behind some of the things that you're saying, and Rosetta Stone is not good about teaching grammar.

It's good for speaking practice, at least, because you're forced to listen to yourself.

Classes are the way to go; part-time immersion's even better. She should try to save up for the Middlebury program or something; it's not in Japan, but they force immersion so you're actually not allowed to speak any English.

Has anyone else noticed that she has deleted about 225 pictures from dA? She used to have almost 700, but now there's only 473. There were so many there to begin with, so I don't really know which ones were deleted.

Quitting is a good move for her. I think cosplay should be about making the costumes and being part of a group, whether it's for a con or just a photoshoot for fun. PT doesn't do either of those things, which is kind of a shame for her since she enjoys cosplaying but at least she'll be able to save some money and devote her time to other things now. I looked at her dA and it seems she's been scrapping/deleting alot of her stuff recently, so it seems she's taking baby steps in the right direction to try and improve her image. Having done the program that is listed under Middlebury in terms of difficulty, I would say it might crush her. I agree that the immersion programs are best for learning, but they are part time and it requires her to take time off from work, etc. They are insanely expensive (even with scholarships and FAFSA).

I am worried about if she can stay focused. I had class from 8am-3pm and then I studied about 2 hours. Then I had a test at 5pm. Then it was more study and homework until about 1am or later. It was that every day for two months.
