I think my coworker is a unicorn. By that, I mean he is unique: a hardcore anime fan and gamer who speaks in memes, works part time at a japanese food restaurant, oh, and he's black. Is this unusual? I was always under the impression weeaboos were mostly punk emo white kids and heat seeking landwhales, do they spring up in other races as well? Not trying to be racist mind you, I just thought that was a mind scarring nitch that white folk had the market cornered on.

i've come across plenty of weebs that were black or hispanic.

yes, they do exist outside of hot topic little white shitheads and obese hambeasts, they just seem the most prominent with caucasians. I have seen plenty of hispanic weeaboos and even the occasional black ones too. most of them in the south, to be honest.

I was one of those, but not for long. I discovered the internet and changed my ways.

Niche, not nitch. And yes, weebs aren't just white people. Isn't Itachi Reznor or whatever he's called hispanic?

to be honest, the guy is pretty cool, but he does get a little grating with the meme usage and constantly busting out random japanese words and such, even trying to sound japanese when he does it. he's a nice guy though, so I usually let it slide, plus it helps I usually only see him once a week, but still.

Weeabooness does not discriminate against color. Anime can have profound impact on anyone regardless of the color of their skin. You just see more white people into it cause that's the dominant race within this subculture. But believe me, there are plenty of weeaboos of color.
    >> Anonymous 12/14/11(Wed)23:08 No.5248122
It happens all the time. Why do you think fighting games and DBZ were so popular? White people? God no, black people latched onto those like a Popeyes was doing a buy one get one sale.

Also the word you're thinking of is niche, not "nitch".

ahh, right right, that was one of those words I can never remember the proper spelling for, gotta love those silent letters.

It depends on where you're from.
I'm originally from Baltimore city, which is like 85% black and almost all my friends, including my weeaboo friends were black.

If you're from a part of the country/world with a small African American population, then just statistically it makes sense why you wouldn't have met someone into niche nerdy shit who is also black.

I grew up in south Texas, but recently moved up to Ohio, so it might just be a bit of culture shock on my end, but yeah, I see your point. Mostly it was just somethign that kind of rolled around in the back of my head while getting through my shift.

In my case most black "weebs" I know kind of kept quiet about their love for anime (anything besides DBZ), convention going & cosplay. It wasn't until I started posting some of my con pictures on Facebook and making cosplay idea folders that I found out the 3 of my good friends from middle school through my junior year in high school are into manga, anime and know about conventions.

It was like some big mind freak for us to find out we each liked anime, because none of us gave any indication we were into it. And when we talked about why no one said anything we basically came to the same answer of "I didn't know any other black people liked anime" since when you think of the demographcs of anime fans its usually alot of white kids.

So tl;dr there are plenty of black, Hispanic weebs out there, some maybe outspoken about it & easy to pinpoint especially at cons but there are others who are pretty quiet about it & you would never even think they enjoyed anime.
