Ive seen this posted a lot of times and everytime theres a board tan thread, pretty sure it aint self post.

Other than that I think their cute if their recognizable.

i love the board-tans! i think they're adorable, and i cosplayed /a/ at youmacon, in fact.

it was a lot of fun, i would love to see more people cosplay them.

It could go well. Most people probably wouldn't get it though. As far as designs go, the ones pictured here are very generic. From left to right they would be mistaken for Cooking Mama, Detective Gumshoe or Kyle Hyde, a wannabe Lolita or fail Chii, and some random mallgoth slut.

I hate board-tans, but it's because my core board is /tg/ and their board-tan is so disappointingly bad it turned me off of the whole idea.

But in all honesty, /fa/ probably acts and is perceived as more mature than /cgl/. Maybe /cgl/ could actually be older than /fa/, but thinks she's younger than him and acts accordingly. Age isn't necessarily a crucial aspect to the board-tans, but weird quirks like that give them extra flavor.

i love /an/ and /k/! they're so adorable, but there is a lack of art. i'm trying to build up my collection of them, i lost it all when my old computer crashed.

back on topic... the board-tans (or, most of them) do have very simple designs. there are usually ways to incorporate their board name on them, though, so that helps (/a/ on the shirt, /co/ on the hat, /ck/ on the hat or apron, etc...).

I always liked the idea of /cgl/ being twins, named... /c and gl/ or... Something. They both hate each other, but can bond when it comes to hating others. Or maybe they're like Patty and Selma from the Simpsons, or the Ugly Step Sisters from Cinderella.

/c would get along best with the most boards, /fa/ would try to ignore them, her and /fit/ would be dating or something, her and /diy/ would be besties, her and /co/ would be bros, there'd be that secret connection with /d/ (if anyone remembers that story...), but /a/ and ESPECIALLY /jp/ would be constantly attempting to murder her.

gl/, on the other hand, wouldn't get any attention from anyone except /fa/ who would hate her (think the "I CAN'T FUCKING TAKE YOU ANYWHERE") pictures, and maybe some from /fit/ and /soc/.

I think the implication was that /x/ and /co/'s designs have changed very little since the board-tans appeared on /a/... which is true.

But for there to be a canon means that there has to be someone who's considered a canonical source, which is not the case. We just have popular ideas with more art than others become the de-facto canon.
