One of those small con's 20 min away from me. Start at 9:50. That's where the fun starts.

Cosplay dodgeball from my local con. See how empty it is? Its like that the rest of the con too.

I have never been to the (two tiny) cons around my area, but after attending a distant one, I have become... curious. But I judge a con very seriously by their website and neither Tsukino-con nor Anime Revolution are impressing me, tbh. This year, I think I might save my money and go to PAX
    >> Anonymous 12/09/11(Fri)02:14 No.5226235
I have one in my area coming up soon. It's called Wonder Northwest, and I actually kinda like it. Vendor's hall is packed tight as fuck with just about anything you could want, and the management lets shit slide most of the time. Very relaxed, kind of a nice con to not get hustled around in. Nice little cosplay contest, too.

It gets kinda boring around the four hour mark, though. I just started last year, so there aren't that many events or guests yet.

It's actually run by a few guys who make this webcomic:

    >Live in a state with nothing but small anime cons.
    >Biggest con here is a comic-con

It's not so bad. Generally I have a lot of fun at the smaller conventions, and you get to know a lot of people. They're not terribly small, but certainly not like the big name ones. The comic-con that's pretty big here is anime/lolita friendly, so it's fun as well.

I did have the opportunity to attend a big con in CA and I was completely underwhelmed.

I go here. I saw this. The building they used was the university union right in the fucking center of campus where everyone goes to eat.

    >A-kon
    >Anime Fest
    >Yulecon

A-kon is huge, but it sucks. Afest is good, but they're moving this year so I'm apprehensive about it. I kind of want to ditch it for D*C if I can afford it. Yulecon is a joke, I'm amazed its still around.

    fuck i lol'ed

I guess Boston is local for me but it's hardly a podunk little convention. Not an Otakon or anything but still quite large.

I always think about how the world would probably be a much less nerdy place if some terrorist or whatever decided to bomb a convention center.

And with that, i became a terrible human being.
    >> Anonymous 12/09/11(Fri)09:22 No.5226769
Setsucon is my only local con. Same area that Otakon originated in, but Setsu is growing at a pretty slow rate compared to what Otakon did. Pretty good con though, plenty of good panels and they usually get some awesome guests.

    >comic convention
    >over 500 people showed up over the course of the day
    >a dozen or so guests and a few vendors as well
not bad for a first year

my only issue, aside from it being a little cramped in general
    >video gaming consisted solely of a Marvel vs Capcom 3 setup
    >TV is located on a vendors table in the corner of a high traffic area
    >great for attracting an audience, bad for people who want to get through

    on the other hand ...
    >whole room for tabletop gaming
    >half empty the whole con

Minor gripes aside, it was pretty good for a first year con, largely due to the sponsors and volunteers. And I can't really bitch much since it was free.

But, I plan on getting in touch with the organizers for next year and trying to run a game room myself, since the Marvel 3 setup was kind of an afterthought, and I have an assload of consoles and a few TVs lying around.

oh my god so much secondhand embarassment

My friends go to our local convention and they say they love it, so it can't be all bad, though.

Looks like you need to just skip the convention fun and go to a room party then lol.
