A better question is why are people still giving Vic Micnogna work?

Because hes actually a good voice actor.

    No he's not.
He only one does one voice.

He hasn't done a different voice ever since he voiced Edward in FMA.

Because his fan girls won't go out and buy the dvds and merchandise, and the anime industry would make even less money then it does now.

If you don't have range of voices, you're a pretty bad voice actor.

I'm sure we can survive with JYB,Yuri Lowenthal,Steve Blum,Nolan North,Tara Strong,Mona Marshall and Lara Jill Miller.

Good voice actors don't just copy and paste one voice onto multiple characters. Good voice actors do different voices to fit the character they're acting as.

    >Implying ability to take direction, show up & be consistent isn't valuable.

I see what you're trying to say, but that's like saying good screen actors who play the same type of character all the time are bad actors just because they're type cast.

Real production doesn't roll like that, sorry to shatter your glass argument.

I'll tell you guys what I know that are relevant to the thread. (VoiceActfag here)
In Voice Acting, acting is the most important thing, hands down. Being able to do voices, that's like a bonus.
When people think the acting was horrible, sometimes it might have just been bad writing. A lot people think the original DBZ dub by FUNi was poorly acted. While this is true is quite a few counts, for the most part it was just horrendous written and censored to all hell. Most voice actors CAN do several types of voices, but it may not be their strongest suit. You do want to know your type so that way you don't walk in blind and look like an idiot.
Some actors are casted on a voice match; meaning that they try to find an actor with the closest voice to the original actor that played character.
Other times, actors are casted when the producers, creators, or whoever is doing the auditions feels they're the best match; probably personality and acting style wise. A lot of acting is making the character your own, almost morphing into them; finding them in you, and you in them.
And one last thing, these assholes don't get paid a lot. Working on American cartoons pays a lot more, but dubbing is a bit more work yet pays a fraction.

That's not what Tara Strong says.

And dubbing for American cartoons is harder than Japanese cartoons. Huh?

    >>5220837
You misread it, he meant "dubbing" as in anime is harder work than American cartoons.

Also, how they cast for American children shows is not the same as Japanese anime. You're comparing apples to oranges really.

    >>5220837
Tara Strong also only works on American cartoons.
In cartoons, often times you work with your fellow actors, and you can play off of them. In dubs, it's you, the mic, a tv screen, and the director/producer/writer telling you what to do next over the intercom/headset.
The character has already been laid out already, so you have very little freedom left with how they act.
The obvious mouth flaps are done beforehand.

The biggest similarity I can think between the two is that, for both session, the actors get the script when the arrive for that session.

Pardon me, my American ignorance is showing.
    American and Canadian cartoons.
    I'll just call it "Cartoons".
