As a kid, I read a lot of old silver age stuff that my parents had but I mostly watched the cartoons. I'm a really huge collector and reader of comics as an adult though and there's a big disconnect between comic fans and cartoon or movie fans.

You're still a fan if you like the movies or cartoon and I think that it doesn't make sense to say "I am a Batman cartoon fan."; you're just a batman fan. It's sometimes hard to find a common ground when there are so many differences.

I'm a Marvelfag myself, and it's sometimes difficult to find a topic that everyone can understand, but I find that normally movie/cartoon fans LOVE hearing about what's going on in the comics and are genuinely interested in the characters, they just don't know how to approach them.

The DC reboot makes DC a lot more approachable now, but Marvel is so incredibly convoluted and interconnected that a new fan is going to be overwhelmed no matter what.

By this I mean, let's say you saw Thor and want to read the comics. Well Thor has had his own series forever so you could go back and read really dated Silver Age nonsense, but you probably want to know what's happening with Thor now.

If you want to know what's going on with Thor, well you have The mighty Thor and Avengers, but there's Avengers and Young Avengers and New Avengers and Fear Itself and those all exist based on a ton of shit that happened before like Civil War and Siege and Avengers Disassembled.

It's intimidating and confusing to new people.
