Where I'm from we have a BIG community. We all love to hang out all the time, and at cons we drink like no tomorrow. I am of course talking about the NW Touhou community. I don't think I'll ever feel as accepted in any fandom as I do in the Touhou one.

I understand where you're coming from with the attentionwhore aspect- it's the same over in /co/.

However, in my experience, /jp/ will go out of its way to post and ridicule female Touhou cosplayers. The female cosplayers are insulted and called ugly whores, while the brohous are cheered and lionized, no matter how bad their costumes are.

I've never posted on /jp/, but whenever I go searching for photos after a con and someone links me to a /jp/ thread of con photos, I'll see myself called an ugly dude, a man, too ugly to cosplay, etc. Which is hugely ironic because if I actually was a dude, I'd be cheered on for being a brohou.

Don't get me wrong, I think brohous are fucking awesome. I just get very tired of the double standard that /jp/ seems to cling to. It discourages people who enjoy the games from cosplaying, and diminishes people's respect for the fandom as a whole. I think there is so much creative energy and so much fun in Touhou and the Touhou fandom that it's a shame that there's so much negativity as well.

The Touhou panel at Animethon (Edmonton) was so terrible I walked out about 2 minutes in. I have pretty bad public presentation skills, but this guy manage to be more awkward and painful than myself.

Barely any of the Touhou cosplayers actually went to it either. So it was a bust on multiple accounts.

Secondaries are basically people who don't play the games (either be it because they don't know how, can't access them, or don't like them) but are very into the memes and characters and such.

I'll admit, some of them can... Get on my nerves. Knew a guy who said Watatsuki no Toyohime was his favorite character based on her touhouwiki article (which if you've seen isn't exactly descriptive). He didn't like the games, so I suggested he read the book because she's his favorite, he basically said "nah". There are a few obnoxious secondaries here and there, and some addict players who literally can't shut up about touhou for more than a few seconds but most of the people I've met in the area (and south) are pretty awesome to chill with. I'm sure it's the same with any fandom, they just stick out more because touhou is a lot smaller in this area.

Myon, well, to be honest it's not how I wanted it to look at alllll. My original idea was to make it to it was 'hovering' somewhat behind my head, rather than mid-back. However, since I only had less than I day to make it, the harness didn't turn out as strong as I had hoped, and it sagged. So eventually I just had to tuck it farther into the back of my shirt/vest. Next time I cosplay Youmu, I'll have Myon remade, as well as the outfit perfected.
