Stand-up comedy at conventions has this idea been done before?
Uncle Yo.
Yup.I remember there being a "Last Comic Standing" at ALA, and another stand up competition at AX.I was gonna participate, but then I remembered that I'm not funny.
Yeah, it's a recent staple in a lot of cons I've gone to. I tend to see it with the same expectations as masquerades. Too many people try to go up and say something amusing when it's not even funny or practiced ahead of time.
A friend and I won about £80 doing it once at Collectormania. Was more of an improv kind of thing than stand up. Was the most eye wateringly cringeworthy experience of my life. Only won thanks to lots of swearing and references to prison rape. Never again.
The people at the last con I went to weren't funny at all. They were just neckbeards who kept mentioning Boku no Piku

Anime fans attempting humor with their skits make me cringe already, seeing them do standup comedy gives me the chills.>>5154943What cons would you say generally have the best comedians?
Shinji Schneider.
