Part of the Homestuck Fandom, I've had to meet some crazy fans [but not even that crazy, just those who use the typing quirks that make me groan]. As far as in person? I've only seen really nice cosplayers but I'm not sure they do once they leave where I am.

Reading about all the stuff though, that people witness makes me sad but I'm glad there's still so many wonderful cosplays and people.

Yeah. I was a little afraid because I had just started working for Hussie and gone to a convention to sell things. I didn't know what to expect since I had barely made it through the 1st Act. I had some fans say things about buckets to me where I just nervously laughed and tried to hide under my table or pretend I dropped something while my co-worker would handle the purchases.

Some of the ones I met though were super sweet and really nice to talk with. I'm sad a bigger majority are the crazy ones.

The Homestuck cosplayers I've met were pretty chill, everyone got along at the con, had a meet up at white castle and did a small photoshoot.

It was nice the only problem was everyone else who wasn't a Homestuck cosplayer were like "Ugh Homestuck", didn't know what we were, took pictures & high fives us or they felt like we were some clique or something and didn't talk to us.

Last con I went to, some girl John thought it was kawaii to come from behind me and GROPE MY CHEST.

She thought it was okay, I mean fine, she came in with the hetalians and was probably used to that nonsense.

The thing currently bothering me the most about the fandom is the pervasiveness of it, and sometimes their 'ME FIRST' mentality. And how defensive and crazy they can get. I made a post a little while ago on tumblr, about how I was little disappoionted AUSA was shaping up to be mostly Homestuck-con instead of all the other stuff I was planning, and I got jumped on for 'making people feel bad' and that it was 'off putting' and that I 'couldn't tell people what to do and cosplay'. All I had said was that I was hoping it be more varied, and yet one of my good friends avoided talking to me for three days, which was maddening.
And the need to go 'LOOK AT ME COSPLAYING A NEW OUTFIT THREE HOURS ARE IT CAME OUT!!!!!' is annoying. Jesus, it will still be relevant once you've actually done work on it instead of something shitty.

Maybe I'm biased, though, in that I had a HS horror story before I ever got into homestuck, and I'm just not seeing it as so friendly and accepting as everyone else does.

I really should have noticed a problem when troll relationships and reproduction got page after page after page and Rose going crazy barely warranted a mention.

I'm really enjoying a ton of the cosplays I see from Homestuck, but I'm a little worried about some of the fanbase...I'm probably going to be cosplaying Bro sometime soon(no zentai), and I keep hearing in-fandom horror stories that are somewhat worrying...

Anything I should keep an eye out for?

Also it might be in your best interest to travel with a Dave or a Mom so you aren't constantly mobbed by them
Other than that the main problem would be people not in costume but there are crazies everywhere

The worst thing that's happened to me in this fandom is being pap-shooshed out of nowhere, which was terrifying until I realised they weren't trying to beat me up.

I haven't had a lot of bad experiences, only a few with trolls. Just...watch out for bad paint jobs, those people are normally touchy and clingy (found out from YoumaCon in my John costume).
Ya, so just avoid the trolls with bad paint jobs wanting hugs...it will probably get on your nice white costume. 8D Bad paint job means it probably will wipe off like a bitch.

The biggest problem I have w/ homestuck cosplayers is that they are always in HUGE groups wandering the halls, why is this? It's like Hetalia. They're always in big groups with over 5 people almost all the time, I rarely ever see homestuck cosplayers by themselves. It's very annoying trying to get past a crowded con hallway with a group of homestuck cosplayers walking in a tight knit group.

Hoping you all can help me out real fast. Kind of new to Homestuck and I want to cosplay something that isn't really overdone so I remember seeing art of a human version of a Shale Imp but didn't save it. Does anyone have it?

I've had more good experiences than bad experiences with HS fans. Being one myself, I'm usually at gatherings and whatnot.
Two types of people I can't stand to be around. 1. People who don't respect personal boundaries. Just because we like the same thing, doesn't mean I want to be groped up the moment we meet. and 2. The people who overreact to buckets.

I wasn't into the fandom at my last con yet, but there was a really annoying and crappy Gamzee running around with a horn all weekend. Other than him though the hs fans didn't seem to be annoying, so hope this next con will be fun (Sac Anime) since my group wants to do it all 3 days. We're going to do the kids first day, then 2 days of trolls.

I really, really like the Sacanime homestuck crew. They're really laid back, chill, and make me dissolve into stupid tumblr lingo like babbus and creys with how cute and wonderful they all are. It's weird coz sacanime is like the locus of terrible fandoms and shitty cosplayers, but one of the more recent, obnoxious fandoms is really well-represented there in terms of quality (not necessarily quantity. Homestuck cosplayers who don't bother sealing their makeup at all = the scourge of the cosplay scene. FUCKING USE SOME SEALANT AND SOME POWDER, DUMBASSES.

Homestuck done so it won't smudge = A-OK and most of you are probably just jelly because your "better" outfits are not nearly as comfortable as most of the Hamsteak things. (Why do you think I have Homestuck outfits? Other than because for some reason I like the comic, it's because sometimes I'd rather wear a T-shirt and converse than some of my overly impractical "better" outfits.)
