If lolita is a "fashion" or "style" why aren't you guys on the "fashion" board?

Your attire is considered a costume, hence you're on the "costume" board. Problem lolitas? Stop taking yourself so seriously, calling it a "fashion" haha.

Well, it's Cosplay and EGL (a type of lolita), not Cosplay. If it were, this would be /cos/ or something. Eventually over the time it's spend being up, Cosplay and Lolita eventually became Cosplay and J-Fashion, mostly because Lolita was popularized in Japan and eventually branched out into other styles, like Gyaru (female Galosengen) and Mori (some kind of hippy bohemian cutesy stuff... adorable but I don't get it). The reason it's separate is because /fa/ is more about Western fashion, whereas /cgl/ is more about Eastern fashion. Plus, in my opinion they're obsessed with gay looking dudes in scarves sporting HYs and man purses. Regardless, lolita or other J-fashion should be taken to /jp/, not /fa/.

    I hope this helps!

But lolitas claim it's a fashion. And they fight to the death over that, clawing at the throats of anyone who dares say otherwise. So why are they content with being on the costume board? You would think they would be more inclined to migrate to a more relevant board.

    >implying cgl is actually about cgl

cosplay and egl. That can be debated. It seems to be "drama and once in a blue moon cosplay and egl" so should the board be /dramu/?

Honestly, I really don't know. If I was a lolita myself, I'd probably be able to answer that a bit better... still, I think it's just a "used to it" kind of thing, or maybe mods in other boards banned them for trying to move. /jp/ isn't that old of a board, but I'm not sure in the times I've been there I've ever seen anyone try it.

My main gripe is that all lolita and J-fashion gets clumped up into "Elegant Gothic Lolita" when there are chicks in here that wear bright pink frilly skirts with strawberries on them. It's hardly gothic. I think when the board was originally made, EGL was the most popular type, maybe? Still, I think /cgl/ needs a revamping. With /diy/ all the serious cosplayers have moved out, and with the EGL part really just being a bunch of other things, maybe /cgl/ could be deleted and the remnants could go to /jp/?

That sparks some thought, huh. Maybe you could e-mail a mod or Moot, or go into the IRC, and pray they actually see it.

There are shit tons of regular fashion threads here. /fa/ is concerned with a less broad scope. Also, anything can be considered a costume if it becomes standardized. I.E. hipster costume. Deal with it OP.
    >> Anonymous 11/07/11(Mon)13:56 No.5138057
/fa/ is shit, and lolitas are too niche to have their own board. While NOT a costume, they do share things with cosplay like the japanese stuff and going to cons and silly drama. Plus besides the annoying trolls, cgl has cool people.

If I wear, say, punk clothing, then I'm wearing it as a fashion.
If I dress up as a punk for Halloween, then I'm wearing it as a costume.
    Same goes for lolita.
    I don't see what's so confusing

.. this thread is stupid. This board is not a costume board, it's for COSPLAY and EGL. The AND here is key, and I guess you missed that.

As far as EGL goes, basically this board has turned into "cosplay and j-fashion", like someone else said. It never was solely a costume board. It's in the name if you haven't noticed.

Lolita is a fashion style to some. To some it can be a costume as well. You're either "dressing up as a lolita" or "wearing lolita".

    Take it however you may.

Anything can be a fashion style if you wear it often enough. When I was in high school some of the "unique" *cough* girls would wear shit like fairy wings and chain collars to school. Tacky? Yes. But if you wear it as everyday attire is it still a costume? Not really.

    the real question is

why the fuck do you care

like, holy shit, some girls are enjoying themselves

    why does it matter
    >> Anonymous 11/07/11(Mon)15:48 No.5138329
    >>5138213
But if it's considered fashion, then why isn't it a part of a fashion board? Instead it's part of a costume board. The point is that it is in fact a costume. Hence it is categorized with the costumes.

So if someone wears cosplay shit every day it's then considered fashion or style?

I don't care that it's here, I just think it's funny when they get all buttfrustrated saying it's fashion when someone calls it a costume. It's lumped together with the cosplay board for a reason. Because it's all costumes.
    >> Anonymous 11/07/11(Mon)15:56 No.5138350
I think the Cosplay & EGL board should split--I don't really get anything from any of the cosplay posts except seeing which landwhale everyone is making fun of next. There should be an Alternative Fashion board, or /fa/ can be Fashion & Alternative or something. I think J-fashion is too specific for it to garner much activity.
    >> Anonymous 11/07/11(Mon)15:57 No.5138351
When the lolis are ready to admit they're wearing costumes, then they can coexist here with everyone else in costume. If they want to bitch about it being "fashion" then they can take it to a "fashion" board

Why cosplay and lolita share a board.
    >> Anonymous 11/07/11(Mon)16:00 No.5138359
    >>5138338
If the person wears the cosplay without being true to the character, then yeah, I could see it as their fashion. However, if they dress up specifically as a character, then it's still costume.

Lolitas aren't really mimicking a character or someone else, so it's not a costume, it's just flashy. Just compare it to Mori-girl or Gal. They don't get noticed so much in public since the style isn't all that foreign to us.
    >> Anonymous 11/07/11(Mon)16:35 No.5138412
How I always saw it was that since cosplay and lolita (and other j-fashions) both originate from Japan, and wasn't anime, it was lumped together as one board. I highly doubt the creators of the /cgl/ board gave two shits about how they are two totally different things.

    Besides, /fa/ is utter shit.
