I'll try and explain it objectively, OP, instead of being a huge help and telling you whether or not I did or didn't like it.
it's
a webcomic, first and foremost, with an ongoing plot about kids playing
a game. The plot gets rather complicated from there, so it's hard to do
it justice with a synopsis without spoiling too much. it also takes a
long time to get the ball rolling when reading it, but nearly everyone
who puts in the time finds themselves drawn in and loving at least
something about the series. It's done in the format of an old
text-adventure game, though that format becomes less prevalent as the
plot comes into full swing. Characters interact through IM logs, and
reading those is sometimes boring but it's a fun format. Interspersed in
the series are some flash animations, for when a lot of shit is
happening at once or for something that can't be conveyed through panels
and chatlogs. If you want to get into it, the safest amount of effort
would be to finish act 1 (it'll take about an afternoon). By the end of
that you start to get what homestuck is about and the general tone of
the comic.
The fandom gets pretty bad at times, but I think it's
mostly just the youngsters. All of the fans I've met have been pretty
great though. And don't worry about the gray people (the trolls), they
don't come until a lot later and honestly aren't that important, people
like them because they have diverse personalities. |
