Same here. Antisocial behaviour is out of control here and all the police does is give an Asbo or two, which the kids today wear as a badge of honour. I feel really helpless sometimes, I know that if I am walking on my own even if it's not late at night or anything, there will be nothing that I can do if I get assaulted. People shout at you all the time and try to provoke you or make you react and your choices are to keep your head low and move faster or face them and risk getting assaulted. And I don't like keeping my head down :/

I live in a neighbourhood filled with chavs. And before anyone tries to tell me "omg you are criticising a subculture, class blah blah" YOU BET I AM, seeing as their main characteristics are being mindlessly violent and getting drunk all the time. So I am not using the word chav here to refer derogatorily to a working class person or a teen mom or something. I am talking about the violent thugs who get drunk and cause fights every single day. All the council and the police do is move them from council estate to council estate when they cause problems while most of them should be behind bars.

I do sympathise though. I guess being built like a brick shithouse (whilst being a girl) has its advantages... I've never been assulted, or anything. I'm really surprised. My neighbourhood is full of the same people you describe, it's disgusting. No one ever believes me when I tell them where I'm from when they meet me... guess I'm lucky.

For the last couple of years I have been ignoring people like that. I used to get into fights very easily but I realized that you basically just give them 100% satisfaction as soon as you turn to them and are ready to respond. Bingo, they got your attention and they can now go on to fully degrade and insult you. I will stand stand up for myself if there is an actual threat, but otherwise, when I go out I put my massive decoed headphones on, music on, and I can hear nothing so I don't even know or care what anyone says about me. If I am passing a group of teens that look like they wanna start something, I will actually blast the music even louder so that they can hear that I don't hear them.

Girls, treat it like you'd treat a troll thread here. The troll WANTS you to take them seriously and respond. Music on and walk leisurely and happily by.

If pepperspray is illegal, you could always make/buy something similar but isn't actual pepperspray. I heard they've made stuff with wasabi now.

No, it's not like they are particularly dangerous. They have 0 intelligence, they are not always armed (at most they will have a knife) and they are not always strong. What makes them a nuisance is that they are thugs, they are cowards so that they will attack the weak and behind people's back, they will gang up on people with no regard as to fair numbers and the problem is that police rarerly does anything about them. At least where I'm from, most of the troublemakers are underage. Like fourteen-year-olds. They'll scream insults at you and even throw shit at you but as soon as you look at them funny someone, their parents or an older sibling, will come out of nowhere and get in your face about being mean to a little kid. You just can't do or prove anything, even if the little shits are throwing rocks at you.
Fortunately I live in a rather good neighbourhood so I very rarely have to deal with this shit.

I hate the underage ones more than I hate the adults. Cause at least you can have a fair fight with an adult. A lot of the ones in my neighborhood are as big as adults and just as grown up but hey they are 16 or 17 so if you touch them (after they have provoked you or like you said, thrown rocks at you), you will be the child-beater who pays for it in the end. And their parents are usually drunk chavs anyway so no good going to them about it. Fuck I hate them all.
