How does /cgl/ feel about costumers who wear the same costume over and over? Not talking a few conventions a year and then you never see it again. I'm talking years.. never improving it, nothing just the same thing.. :|

To each their own I suppose.
    I'd personally get bored.

I do it all the time when I have sessions with submissive women with certain fetishes.....

I've only seen it done twice. Once is some Spike who isn't even that great. The other is that Midvalley whose always at AX.

The problem is when people wear the same costume three, or even four, days in a row.
I've shared a room with someone who did that, despite having other costumes AND real clothing.

Smelly as fuck let me tell you what.
    >> Anonymous 11/04/11(Fri)00:27 No.5127150
If it is a well put together costume and said person can pull it off well, I would not mind too much but I would encourage them to expand. Otherwise, shitsux.

Makes the creepers easier to spot. Specially in my state. Seems like they never change their clothes period.
    >> Anonymous 11/04/11(Fri)00:43 No.5127182
    Only if it is shitty.

If they look omg so much like the character and are known as "THE -insert character here- cosplayer" I see why they do it. I see popular cosplayers like that on fb, youtube, lj who get shit if they don't make an appearance as whatever character they are known for at whatever con they are going to next even after doing it for years.

    I don't care. That's their deal.

If it's a lady I find attractive in a costume I find attractive, then I fucking love it.

Otherwise it gets kinda old after a while.

If the cosplay is good, I think it's cool to see it again and again. I always love seeing this guy.

I know someone who did this with a Lockon closet cosplay. He should have at least picked up an extra green t-shirt at Wal-Mart and packed a second pair of jeans.

His shirt was disgusting by the second day, even if you couldn't smell it. Food stains, sweat stains, etc.

And he looked right for the character. He could have been a good Lockon if he wasn't disgusting.
    >> Anonymous 11/04/11(Fri)00:58 No.5127210
On the reverse side, it bothers the hell out of me when someone has an awesome cosplay that they wear for maybe 3 hours and then never wear it again.

To be fair some costumes are really hard to walk around in, too impractical to actually wear (aka obnoxious things like pieces slide down as you walk etc), or maybe the person just doesn't feel comfortable wearing it for longer for personal reasons. As long as they got good pics does it really matter? (Not attacking your opinion, just curious). I love seeing pics myself, but of course it is always cool to see nice costumes in person.
    >> Anonymous 11/04/11(Fri)01:13 No.5127235
I've only known one person who does that, and she's this scary as fuck Hinata cosplayer. Never ages, never changes her hair, costume is the exact fucking same, never loses or gains weight, etc.

I met her at Ohayocon 2008 and she started stalking my friends and I because "omg we were such good Naruto cosplayers" even though we looked like shit back then.

She has stalked us ever since. I legitimately have no idea how she still manages to recognize us after all this time, but we actually have to hide from her. She goes to all the Ohio cons and even to ACen. Seriously, this chick is batshit and she smells like shit all the time and she's obese and touchy feely.

    Fuuuuuck.

Because of my experiences, I'd probably be a little concerned about it. If it were their only costume, anyways.

I don't understand why people like this can't spend a few hours out of costume to go throw their shit in the hotel's coin operated laundry.

There's a weeaboo sakura cosplayer who has been doing the exact same costume for years, party store wig and all. i see her at EVERY convention being obnoxious, and she looks exactly the same every time.

there's also a local cosplayer who cosplays ONLY as envy at every convention, and has for years. as much as i'd like to see them do more, they've at least improved and done other versions throughout the years.

I don't always have the money/effort/skill to put into a new costume. And sometimes I make the old ones better. So fuck it. Spy's gonna spy, nights gonna light, fakkus gonna fap. Deal w/ it.
    >> Anonymous 11/04/11(Fri)04:12 No.5127474
If it's a costume I spent a year on, pouring my soul and skills into, hell yeah I'm going to wear it till everyone's sick of it.

    >I don't always have the money/effort/skill to put into a new costume

This. Though if you take it further, many people don't have the money to make more than even one costume. Life is hard and finances are hard and sometimes people just want to get in cosplay and escape, and if it's only within their monetary means to cosplay as the same person all the time, who am I too judge? Hating on someone for wearing the same cosplay all the time is showing your privileged.
    >> Anonymous 11/04/11(Fri)05:14 No.5127528
I kind of wanted to do that with some of my cosplays. I've only just started but I spend a lot on good quality materials and do everything to the best of my ability. I like the character, it's appropriate for the stuff I go to, and people seem to like it and think it suits me. I take good care of it (I wear a new set of under-clothes every time too), and if it needs a bit of improving I'll do it, but nothing too drastic. I'll make other cosplays, but I want to wear them for awhile.
    >> Anonymous 11/04/11(Fri)05:18 No.5127529
Admittedly I'm guilty of this. I've worn the same costume about 2-3 years running with one new one inbetween. I only go to two cons a year and didn't have the funds/time to make a new one, as well as loving my costume and improving it each time.

I've now forced myself to retire it as I want to try new things. I'm glad I did as it's more fun and interesting, but I still love the hell out of that old costume.

I'm really guilty of this. For the past couple of years, at every con I go to--whether it be a repeat or not--I still bring out my main cosplay that I'm known for here, which is Don't Say Lazy Mio Akiyama. Personally, I never get tired of it, and since people (friends mostly) recgonize me most in that outfit, we usually get to spend time at cons when we see each other around. Plus, I spent a crap ton of money on my Fender bass that's like Mio's, so I better have a use for that, which is why I still do it. Honestly, I know some people grow tired of seeing the same person in the same thing repeatedly, but if they're having fun, there should really be no reason to waste your time being bothered by it.

Hell, look at Texas Jet. He's known for his Jet Black cosplay, and because of that--and the sheer level of badass that he is since he does it so well--he brings it out at every con. It's what I like to call his "signature" cosplay; that is what DSL Mio is to me.

Some cosplayers also can't afford to be cosplaying more than one character over a period of time. Not everyone is the same financial nor skill level.

I personally can't complain about this, because 1. Guilty, 2. Texas Motherfucking Jet.
