    Sup, /cgl/?
Can we have a cosplay armour thread? It's been a while since I've seen one.
ITT: God tiers, shit tiers, average tiers, WIP, tips and tutorials, your own armour making experiences, what you wish you could do, what you plan to do, Inclusive of props if you really need them.

OP's favourite armour makers/cosplayers have to be
    Amethyst Angel: http://amethyst-angel.com/cosplay_animemanga.html
    and
    Kamui: http://www.kamuicosplay.com/

OP has probably posted him here a lot, but she's raging to do Black Knight from Fire Emblem in time for Anime North for about a year, maybe two now. Planning to use AA's tutorials and use craft foam and styrene sheets

If you guys have tutorials, I'd love to see them. I'm super into armour, but due to lack of funds / know how, I've never really gotten around to it.

This is like, the best I have, some girl making Valkyrie Lenneth armour out of papier mache.

depends on how much of the character's body is covered in armour + the materials you want to use
looking at it, I wouldn't say you'd need a lot, and depending on if you use craft foam + styrene and enamel/spray paints, or papier mache + acrylics/gesso, I'd say the price varies, but I doubt it would be too expensive, nor go over $50/40

    >>5126486
I'd assume you just buy gold paint and maybe put on a gloss and/or polish it to your satisfaction, or, if you're using the craft foam and styrene sheet method, I'm fairly certain you can find styrene that's mirror shine gold on one side, but you'll have to look hard for it

But since it's hard for me to explain everything in English I prefer just to show it. So... if you like to see something I just give me a request. I aso wanted to create a full wonderflex armor tutorial. From the planning and drawing of the patterns, to the creating steps, the paint job and the fixing. But slowly I'm out of ideas.

I'd post pics but I just did the first round of fabric backing to the armor to see how it will hold up and it's still drying. I'm not sure what you mean with "seams", but you can add borders if you just add a further wonderflex layer. Pic related. You can also try to create a three dimensional border if you carve it out of EVA foam and cover it with resin or something else.
And for boots I would just buy normal boots and glue or fix (with velcro for example) the armor on.

Well, I don't really have tutorials on armors. You see I'm a larper from Eastern Europe. so when we want to use armors in or games we acquire real armors. Now making a real metal armor is not easy (except a chain armor, but that's time consuming) that's why we have a smith.
Although textile armors a little bit easier but it's still hard to sew those layers together

If you mean the latex armors then no, those are really light. Latex armors are basically foam covered with latex. very light stuff and you can buy those kind of armors in larp shops.
So I would say they are basically comfortable too if it fits. Real armor is comfortable too if it fits.

    >>5126620

Well I have only a few pics about leather armors. In my opinion it's really hard to make a good looking leather armor. Most of the attempts just look like an S/M suit...

another leather armor from the better ones. Basically you can make a good leather armor if you make it like a metal one. So if you don't depend on the flexibility of the leather that much. Yeah, leather can move but not that much and it won't be comfortable.

basically a one piece breastplate usually don't go under the ribs so you can bow without problem. So where you can move your body the armor has to move too. It's an important thing that usually overlooked

Generally an accurately made field harness (German gothic fluted stuff applies here) weighs about 45-60 lbs., which is distributed over your whole body.

It's really not bad at all. It can be pretty comfortable. Actually weights significantly less than what most military personnel carry today.

    depends on the larp, really.
there are a lot of different larps, for example the ones where we don't really have rules for the fight, you just play out everything according what happening what hit you where and everything. These games are depends on trust of course, but it's easy to see if someone "cheats"

then there are larps with some kind of HP systems. In europe we usually don't have high-HP systems, that's something that the US guys do.
example from my country: everyone have 3 HP, every weapon has the same damage, but the damage depends on wher you got hit. torso is 3 HP damage, legs are 2 HP and arms are 1 HP. Armor reduce damage, leather armor reduce by 1 and metal armor reduce by 2. So if you are in a full plate then three hits on the torso and you are dead, everywhere else you don't take damage

well the thing is, you can steal a lot of ideas from real armors for your own. Most of the things you see on an authentic armor has a practical reason to be there.

I know that you guys are more into the copy anime and other things but I've seen a few videos where cosplayers made a good looking armor except they couldn't really move in it.
Look is an important thing but I think practicality is somehow more important.

But then again I'm just a larpfag

I'm a casual larper and only the practicality of being able to move is important.
Some of the bits and pieces and bulbous belly gourd type shapes serve no purpose in larp unless you're going full contact. That's were you can change things for looks. otherwise you might as well just be a historical reenactor

I think if you didn't attempt an entirely metal look you could get about half way there, Like, make the obvious armoured bits (shoulder pads, skirt, etc) using armour techniques then use like, a lycra undersuit with the details sewn in / painted on.

Face would be difficult, for that you'd either have to go full on facepaint or make some sort of mask.

    Still! It could be done!

I didn't even suggest it's bad. It's a radically different emphasis with little to no emphasis on a game.
You seem hung up on historical accuracy with no consideration for it's usefulness in play.
