24 KB How does lolita panel? Anonymous 11/03/11(Thu)17:26 No.5126141
A friend and I are doing a panel at a local con for Lolita and we were wondering, beyond the basics (major styles/substyles, not costumes/ageplay etc.) what do YOU think should be specifically addressed? Like what are certain aspects people confuse between styles maybe or accessorizing, thoughts on brand v. indi v rep---ANYTHING really

Also would appreciate pictures of your least/favorite lolis and ideas on stuff to show or do for the panel

    Thanks!

Show me pictures of you and your friend in lolita first.

I suggest you not bring up the brand vs replica debate. I assure you, that won't get you anywhere nor will it impress the actual lolitas in your audience.

A timeline of how lolita has evolved over the years could be nice, and if you expect a lot of non-lolitas at the panel you could have a small section at the end listing big brand websites.

remember to stress the importance of not ordering of milanoo and how not to be ita

idk, I don't think you should talk about being ita at a panel like that. I'm sure a lot of people who aren't familiar with lolita can't tell the difference between a nice oldschool coord and an ita one if you poorly word it.

If you're going to talk about avoiding ita, strictly mention quality (thick fabric, soft lace, etc) as opposed to descriptors ("no white on black," "no maxipad headdresses," etc).

Maybe a section on the "lines" of lolita and body types.

A lot of newbies and even more seasoned lolitas struggle with translating how a stock photo will look on their body if they are an hourglass, busty, pear shaped, ect. I hear girls question all the time how to manage being busty with lolita, or having a long torso, broad shoulders, ect.

Maybe having a tutorial of different dress styles of lolita (babydoll, princess seams, sweetheart line, ect) and what they do and don't flatter could be fun and helpful. Understanding what will and won't look good on your from a photo usually requires some knowledge of dress construction, darts, ect and unfortunately most girls outside of seamstresses and seasoned lolis don't have that experience.

After all, we are all in the tough boat of having to order and pay for dresses without trying them all. Part of what is so daunting about lolita (besides the pricetag) is having to spend so much money on something made for asian body types that could be potentially very unflattering.
