Guy seemed really sweet and the result was one of my best pictures from the con

What are you talking about? I just looked at his site and the images are 900 pixels tall, and the watermark is in the bottom corner. Can't see a problem with that. Are you sure you clicked on the right link?

Try saving it. You can't. They are protected. So what you see, you can't save or download.

As I said I don't care much for the pics, I was just wondering what other people thought about release forms, and when it is ok to sell other people's pics without them and all that.

I did! I love my picture, really tempted to email him to see if he can send me the set but I'm afraid of coming across as rude.

I think a lot of people go round expo not really knowing their rights and the rights of photographers and really it's each individuals responsibility to know what to say, who to ask etc. But on the other hand, given that it's a lot of young people at expo, there to have fun, if you do intend to use pictures you take for profit, I think you should at least say so at the time of taking the photo.

Yeah, he's a friend of mine. I doubt anyone will get more than one or two photos but they should be good!

We did a private shoot a week before expo to experiment with lighting and backgrounds and he was really confused by the fact I wanted around 9 photos of each costume. He was like "But even fashion editorial only want 3 or so!". Haha, had to show him other cosplayers sites to explain..
    >> Anonymous 11/03/11(Thu)17:55 No.5126209
How did people find the expo with the modelling convention going on? I was staying in the PTI so I was at the East entrance a lot and getting a lot of snide looks, giggles and rude comments. Although some were really sweet and asking about the other event and why was everyone in costume etc. Someone asked me how long I'd been working at the Excel centre.

This. I used to take professional quality pictures at cons and if you are working independently and not clearly stating that you will charge for the pictures, it is common courtesy to allow your subjects access to your photos. Especially if you use them for your fashion or photography blog or portfolio.

    Same here.
I think it was GunstarVixen. I think, she's the only person I know of who's cosplayed Codex and it really didn't suit her. The phrase mutton dressed as lamb came to mind several times. And she seemed to think the stage was for her, and people were there to see her. I wish they'd just get rid of all the announcers coming on between entries and just announce them from the side and let the cosplayers be the main event of the masquerade.

He's not exactly going to sell any copies of your pic to people who aren't you. But if he did, sure, that would be legally dodgy. You can only do that without permission if the pics are for editorial use. Like for a newspaper or blog.

On Saturday, a guy stopped me and Felix outside to do a video of us posing. He said he was making a cosplay video and he told us the name of his Facebook group, but I can't remember...I can just remember 'Cosplay -something-', did anybody else get stopped by him?

I meant for the video, I was with some friends as they were filmed for it, they never filled out any forms. I think the forms are just for the book as that is for profit. The videos are just advertising I think. Don't quote me on that though.

Not the one you are replying to, but I check his galleries too and the photos are all available to add to your cart regardless of who you are. He didn't take a picture of me but he did take some of my friends and they are all up for sale

Protip: Noone is gonna buy photos of strangers cosplays when there's a decent enough res web version available. I bet he doesn't even sell any given the market in the UK
People are making a much bigger fuss than whats needed of this.

In that case maybe he's technically infringing on people's rights, so if anyone had a problem with that they should ask him to remove the pics from sale.

There was actually drama? I happily had none!

As for FotoBartlett, what I'll probably do is give it a couple of weeks til the hype died down, then I'll drop a polite email asking for other pictures. He got some of the only ones where I'm actually posing properly with my sword.

And the models, well, they stared, but I reckon that had just as much to do with the fact that I'm fat as it does with the fact I was in costume. They stared, I stared back, those that smiled, I smiled back. No one said anything.

Yeah, what I was saying is though, you probably won't get any more lol. He'll generally release what he likes and won't really give out anything he considers sub par against his name. I mean it's worth asking but I wouldn't hold out for more than a few photos at max.

He's a real professional as opposed to some of the photographers that call themselves that..

IDK about actual bitching backstage, apparently there was a couple of accidents though. From what I heard, one contestant accidentally blinded his friend with a prop.

There seems to be a bit of post final butthurt loser syndrome from Italy. One of the War Machine's friends had a bitchfit on EC's facebook page about how the judges didn't award him properly, and the War Machine guy posted about how great he was. Out of curiosity, I checked out his page, and it's full of butthurt towards Xae and the 3rd place girl. He also calls the competition a scandal and his friends dish out infinite asspats for him. It's all in italian, but it's nothing google translate can't deal with.

To be honest, I saw his costume up close, and it looked like shit. I'm amazed he even placed 5th, there were far better costumes than his, like killingdoll's priss, or the fucking crazy-huge chaos terminator, which I seriously thought was going to win.
