I was a contestant in the cosplay contest, and I know how horribly organized it was. The mics were not turned off in the backstage area, so if you were sitting in the first couple of rows, you could hear the staff scrambling. The audio guy got the cds mixed up and played different tracks at different people's times. They announced us as the skit before us, and then they didn't get our audio sorted out, and they didn't announce us at all, so no one really knew who we are. I honestly think out of all the cosplay shows I've done, that was probably the worse. I really hope they fix this next year. It was very unprofessional and it was a shame they messed up so much. I mean, how can you mess up a cosplay contest so much? I dunno, but they were very nice and were trying to be on the ball about it, but when it started about 2 hours or an hour and a half later than it should have, I shouldn't have expected much better than what happened.

Yes, yes, and yes. Hearing and seeing the black mages perform was the best con experience I have ever had. That being said, short of the always cool 24 hour oni-con arcade, most everything else at the con was very lackluster to me. And I doubt they can get EBP two years running lol.

But we will see next year.

EBP with Nobuo were amazing.
The arcade offered me several hours of late-night, drunken fun.
Hentai-fest was small and homoerotic, while Club-Oni and a lot of other events were either very poorly ran or not existent.
All in all, the convention was held in a fantastic location with tons of stuff to do, however most of that stuff wasn't con related (shopping, eating out, etc).

The people who ran the contest had no control over EBP going over their time for their concert and into the cosplay show time so, its not the cosplay peoples fault for the late start. Although, who ever was in charge of the sound and light boards had no idea what they were doing. I will also say that who ever organized the papers for the MCs is an idiot. Some of the judges were qualified but some I have no idea why they were allowed to be given that opinion other than "knowing the right people". there shouldnt be any more than lets say 5-6 judges. If you have a group as a cosplay guest then chose one member to represent them unless they are a duo. There was alot of disorganization too...as far as the awards go, some good cosplays probably didnt win mostly because they didnt make them themselves or because they have already won awards at previous conventions and would be considered sandbagging. I remember the warcraft girl and a few others who have won stuff before. So I can see how that would make sense. Overall, needs more professional staffing but I could tell they were trying their best.

Cowboy Bebop is a solid 7.5 / 10. Great visuals, fun music, but there's a complete void of any kind of plot until the last 3 episodes, when the creators hastily cop out by killing Spike off.

An idiot cosplaying with bodypaint on fucked up one of the convention center's chairs and some-one tried to make a joke out of it. At least that's my guess

My biggest disappointment was the After midnight production of Rocky Horror picture show. Started over an hour late because another panel was using the room and ended at 9(when Rocky Horror was supposed to start) So they had to set up, then they had technical difficulties and had to beg for a different laptop from the audience because the dvd kept freezing. Then there were drunken asshats playing with the lights when the movie finally did get started. Then too many people doing too many different callback lines at once. I did learn while in line that one of the con's main organizers had been really sick for a while and not able to put as much work into the con as usual. Which might explain some of the mess if the other organizers weren't able to pick up the slack and get it together.

None of it has any distinct plot until they actually attempt to start exploring it in the last 3 episodes, and then they kill off Spike for whatever reason.

Finally lets not forget about the fact that Spike's death was foreshadowed in the first episode, a fact that you ignored. It was this prophecy that book ended the series to a satisfying conclusion.

Sure were were episodes that really didn't flesh out anything but a majority of them did. Guess you need to have these extra details spoon fed to you.

None of the judges were qualified. Some have judged before, but even then it was questioned. The fact of the matter was that the judges were all friends of D, and so that's why 1. there were so MANY judges and 2. no one knows who the fuck they were and no one got to see judges in impressive cosplays. Also, TWABI (This Was A Bad Idea; aptly named) had several people from their group as judges, right? Or was that the Airship Isabella? Either way, anon above who stated to just have one or, at most, two judges from large groups judge is right. When there are about eight or nine judges it makes finding clear cut winners a lot more difficult.

This is probably why judging didn't reflect craftsmanship as well as it could have.

To be completely honest, the last years Oni had good judging at the cosplay masq was in '09 and '10. It hasn't been the same since then. If they can figure out what changed after '10 maybe they can fix it by next year.

Needless to say I'm with ya'll on this one. I didn't recognize a single judge. What happened to having well-known cosplay guests? Or at least people who have won multiple awards for their costumes and are well-qualified to judge other cosplayers.

I was one of the main photographers this year, probably the only one, I think, actually. The con was incredibly unorganized this year, from what I saw, but I managed to do my best. People I talked to said it was the best year ever, though I thought last years was better.

Any one get any shots of the Steins;Gate group on Friday night? I know there were only two Kurisu's the entire con and a BUNCH of Okabe's running around. Friday there was a Mayuri, Okabe, Moeka, and Kurisu running around.


Otherwise, con went pretty well for me. Ran into a couple of seagulls, and a few other things. I'd rate it a 6 out of 10 for me.

I think the only visible frustration I saw from staff was with the cosplay contest, where they spent a good thirty minutes telling people to stand on either the left or right side of the stage unless you were a group and to come center. My camera broke during the Otokage concert so I was sitting dead center with a 50mm lens. I had to move because the cosplayers saw the camera, got hypnotized and walked dead center everytime. Personally, I feel center was probably the best place for them to go, but I've only been to like 30+ cons, what would I know, right? Pretty much cost me a couple photos since directions = what the fuck is that mean?
